I've received a couple pm's from people wanting to contribute prices but don't want to get harassed about selling to someone or getting more at place x. If this is the case for anyone, you can pm me any values and I'll update them in the list and database.
Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, West Virginia

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.

I was hoping someone could answer this. I just got a used copy of Splinter Cell Conviction today, like, no more than hour after it was traded in. The guy behind the counter didn't put the stickers on the case, or with the case, and just scanned the sticker from the list of stickers he had. Am I going to have trouble returning it if I still have my receipt?

ACDC Rock Band (360) - $3
Dead Space (360) - $6
Bioshock 2 (360) - $17

All base, used the 30% coupon though since that was all I had to get rid of.
No. Just say you removed the stickers if they ask what happened, which is doubtful.
Thanks JP, you really are the man. I figured what happened to me was common practice, so I'm stoked to hear that it is. It might be going back if I blaze through it this weekend.

Ok, i have a question. If i have the extra %30 trade in credit, which means %40 with edge. Can i trade in the 5 games? and give them the high values ones first?

Also, after i use that coupon, can i go get a new copy of splinter cell and then get the %25 (35%) with edge coupon off a used game when i buy a new splinter cell copy?

Do the trade-ins in one transaction and do the Splinter Cell purchase with a used game on another one. I think there system can only do one promo plus edge bonus per transaction.

About your first question, no, you cannot stack multiple trade in deals at once. You can either use the 30% extra trade in coupon, or get the 20% extra for trading in 5 games, but not both at the same time. However, edge card stacks with all deals, so your best bet would be to use the 30% coupon and edge card. Also, I think that Splinter Cell coupon to get a used game for 25% off if bought with Splinter Cell was last week's coupon and is no longer valid. But, if it was, then edge would stack with it too, and you would get 35% off the used game.

Does anyone know if they were supposed to give seperate trade-in credit for the 360 power block? I could have sworn that the last time I traded a 360 they had.

All stuff already confirmed by others, but worth posting anyways.

Beatles Rock Band 9.00 2 copies
Transformers Revenge 7.00
Wii
Mario Power Tennis 14.00
Pikmin 6.25
PSP
Soul Calibur Broken Destiny 13.50

I asked this elsewhere but couldn't get an answer. When you guys swap games at GS (like the disc, case, or both) do they make you return them first or do they not require you to have to return them through the computer? Has anyone made a lot of returns in a short time period?

i did a return yesterday for a different game disk cuz it looked a bit scratched up. the guy made me go through the whole computer system. he gave me the store's game case and manual, and i was like, no thanx i just wanted a better disk cuz my manual and box looked perfect and he switched it fine. I have also gone in and they just go switch but that was just for a better box/legit box and manuals. so maybe they need to use the computer for disk exchanges?

I usually just steal any cover-art or instruction manuals I need. As far as discs are concerned, I believe they have to do returns on the computer to keep track of their inventory. I'm assuming you mean "swapping" for the same item?

Hey Just so you guys know, GS charge refurb fees for games without a box, so whenever theres a promotion as well involving a selected title on a list YOU MUST HAVE THE BOX.

Only exception is that if an employee is lenient and lets you use a different box.

So the other day I was offered to trade in my Forza 3/ODST bundled box and get $20 but another gamestop was allowing me to just bring in my bundled box and leave the ODST out, and that would have considered as Forza 3 with the box. I made the wrong choice I guess, as each store has their own leniency and specific policies...

Just wanted to point that out.. hope someone finds this useful.

i have never been charged a refurb fee for not having the box. just go to another store.

You were lied to. It's not company policy, it's at a managers discretion. When they do that, I take my games back and offer to leave. Usually they change their mind when they realize they are going to lose $100-150 in trades over it. At worst, you actually do leave and go to another store.

i used to be a jerk and trade in disks in plastic baggies. only time i got charged a refurb fee when i traded like 20 ps2 games in, and i should have been charged a fee cuz those were used up! but it was like worth 2 of the games the fee charge, lol.

Damn, im getting pretty tired of this gamestop BS, they tell you something totally different on the phone. I asked if it was okay to trade in a game without the box towards a promotion and she says yes.. but it was a different employee, but I guess heres where I made the mistake where I actually showed them the bundle box..

I probably should have just wrapped the forza 3 disks in folded paper and given it to them like that instead. :(

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I know I may sound like a supercheapskate (ironically) but I feel really stupid now.

thinking about unloading an older 360 during this $50 bonus deal and picking up a new arcade from amazon

the older 360 I have is one of the green colored Halo 360's. anyone know if those have any particular value over common 360's? thanks

No. I just saw it on the trade-in lists....but that must be IF there is something wrong..(?) My mistake.

Yeah, those fees are listed there if you know the console is busted you know what they are going to deduct. I've been thinking of different ways to lay it out.

I traded in games today:

gah i'm an idiot, told my lil bro to do the trade in for me but i didn't get the 40%. I forgot they didn't count gba and ps2 games, my fault, lessoned learned. I ended up getting 20% only (plus 10% edge).

Here are the TIV's for today:

PS2:
Final Fantasy X: 5.50

Wii:
Call of Duty World at War: 15.00

PS3:
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue: 9.50

DS:
Mystery Case Files Millionheir: 6.00
Mario Party DS: 14.00
Rhythm Heaven: 11.00

GBA:
Super Mario World Advance 2: 6.00

Also question, if I traded in 6 or more qualified games, do they add the bonus to the gba/ps2 games as well? My receipt only showed edge bonuses for the gba and ps2 games. Thanks for any help!

If I traded in my 360 at GS, then decided to purchase a 360 on Amazon...What is the best method of transferring the credit to use for the purchase? Should I grab some games at GS, then trade them in at Amazon...Or should I purchase a bundle of games from GS online with the 40% (or so) off on USED games and then trade those in?

Opinions?

Trade the 360 into Gamestop. Buy over $100 worth of games online using 25off, 10auto, and an Edge discount. If you buy in store, you're paying about 39% extra. Also, make sure those games have break even, if not more trade in value. Might take some time to research, but there are tools here on CAG for you to find the amazon trade in values, and there are lists on here, that tell you how much you'd actually pay for the game. A few examples from last week, that are no longer valid.

360 SAW $20 Amazon trade in, I paid $15.52. This was before the 10auto, so I was only using 25off. Another one was PS3 Call of Duty World at War, $20 Amazon trade in, paid $12.14. Last example I'll give, was PS3 Guitar Hero Smash Hits $20 Amazon trade in, paid $12.14.

I'm very tempted to trade in my 360 and buy an arcade at Amazon, but it's not that old because I already replaced it so maybe I'll wait and see if Slim60 comes out.

Now this here is excellent OP'ing. Someone interprets you differently and you kindly explain what you meant and even offer to change it to something more easy to understand without even being asked. I'm very happy to see this. :applause:

I don't think they add bonus from multiples onto games that don't qualify to get that multiple. You should've gotten Edge on everything.

I am but hopefully I can make up for the money I lost here, in savings in future details.. (I calculated and it was about $10 if I had gone to another GS, but I definitely needed to haggle). For future references tho, I will remember that day.

I briefly looked but didn't see it answered...

For the 25.00 promotion, does it HAVE to be towards a game? If I wanted to get a DS, could I put it towards that?
