Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, West Virginia

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.

I can also confirm the $50 console trade-in promotion. Just got back from Gamestop.

Traded in:

Xbox 360 console with wireless controller:

$90.00 base TIV
+ $50.00 promo
----------------
$140 credit

In my case I applied it towards buying a new Nintendo Wii (and got Wii Sports Resort free with it as part of the Wii promo). However, trading in for store credit is also a legitimate option.

Was that the system itself and a wireless controller only? Or did you include anything like power brick, video cable, hard drive, etc.

It was the console unit + power brick + standard A/V cable + wireless controller. Just those 4 things. Nothing else (i.e. - no hard drive, manuals, original box, etc.)

From 360 values in post 2:

Core unit + wired controller - $70 (1/20/10)
Core unit + wireless controller - $90
(3/18/10)

Thanks, i called 2 different gamestops and they told me 10 dollars difference. Ill take in both controllers anyway and if its only 10 bucks, trade in the wired one. If its 20, ill give them my janky wireless one.

I can't take credit for the $50 bonus news, I just reposted some information that was sent to me. The GameStop employee who gave me the heads up deserves the credit. They know who they are, just requested I keep their name out of it.

I saw an xbox arcade at a pawnshop for $98 bucks. Thats $50 bucks profit in GS credit. Looks like i'll be going there tomorrow.

You're going to pay $100 in real cash to make it back in GS credit plus a potential $50 bonus?

Young Skywalker, the force for flipping is not strong in you.

Now if you were paying $25 for a 360 off of CL that actually works 100%, that's a flip. What you're doing is converting cash into GS credit, when you're supposed to be doing it in the opposite direction.

personally i think making a 50% profit is worthwhile, if he plans to spend the credit soon rather then sit on it for a while.

To each their own, but to spend $100 to make it back(in credit) and $50 more(in credit) kind of defeats the purpose of flipping. Buy low, sell high...like the stock market.;)

when you trade in systems do the wires, system and controller each count as their own credit or is everything included in the system TIV?

If you are gonna buy something there anyway, then $50 extra bucks is just gravy. In fact, after hearing this idea I think I'm gonna check my local pawn shop tommorow too, lol.

Same as any other 360 version. The only difference is if you trade in the console with a wired or wireless controller. Hard drive gets traded in separately. They call it a core value because it doesn't include the hard drive.

Thank You

Just traded my spare 360 in to get the $50, figured I'd sell in now since its been collecting dust for the last year. Ended up finally breaking down and getting a Wii for the family. The wifey has been wanting one for a while now, and I know the boy will love it.
C'mon - don't even try to pretend to know what each person's individual situation is. Amazon has it's place and so does GS (as well as CL & EBay) - a good CAG will use any and all to his/her advantage. Leave it at that.
Well said sir - I did indeed forget about the Edge bonus stacking. As for my games, I always tend to have my original cases, so it's not an issue for me. All that said, even with the bonus 10% from the Edge card, GS credit does not come close to equaling Amazon credit in my mind for 3 reasons:

1. I don't have to qualify for the promotion by trading in X games and I still get a good value from Amazon.
2. I can spend my Amazon credit on pretty much anything (including replacement razors for my Bic).
3. Amazon prices are equal or better than GS (new and used) so my credit goes further.

All that said - I will keep in mind in the future that each CAG has their own situation - I'll only share what mine would be.

Base values from today:

Mass Effect 2 - 24
Borderlands (360)- 17
Dante's Inferno (360)- 24
Army of Two: 40th Day (360) - 20
Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time - 10
Assassin's Creed 2 (360) - 14.50
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 - 18
WWE Legends of WrestleMania (360) - 4.50

About 192 after Edge and Bonus... Not too bad.

Anyone think it's worth trading in a PS3 80GB (4 USB, software BC) for $150+$50bonus?

I'm debating rather I should just keep it or trade in to get a PS3 Slim. I do have a ps2 phat so I'm not sure if the decision to trade in for a PS3 is worth it. Someone please help me decide which is the best option, the $50 bonus is tempting.

I go through GS credit like fucking water. Its amazing.

Besides, that $150 will turn into more. However, if people can figure out good flips from the BBV sale tomorrow, I will use my cash up that way.

Thanks to everyone who helped out and for the OP. I traded in the following today:

Xbox 360 system with HDMI
power supply
composite video cable
wired controller
2 512 meg memory cards

Got 150.90 in credit. Bought the last Rock Band Stage Kit in the city for 19.99 while i was there. Overall very happy. Thanks again.

Has anyone traded in a Wii with a 3rd party wireless sensor bar instead of the factory wired one? Do you know if they will give full value?
Does anyone know what the code is for free shipping on gamestop.com?
It is automatically added to your order , you no longer have to use promo code "SAVER" . Hope I helped :D

So do I, but I always like to make sure that the credit I amass came from shit that cost me nothing(BB coupon games) or next to nothing($2-5 clearance games and $5 HWV sale games).

Otherwise, I paid too much for the credit.;)

Word! The only time to add cash into the "system" is as seed money. Go to BBV with $20-30 cash, buy a bunch of games, trade to GS for $40-70, buy games from GS to trade back to BBV (even at a loss is ok as long as the net is positive) buy more games to trade to GS.

Wash, rinse, repeat. I'm still working off of $70-80 I dropped at HWV over a year ago and built up my "empire" (85+ games and still hundreds in credit). Patience.
