GT4 free with Trade in of 3 games!!!!
wowza... tried the deal this weekend and PS2 Jampack summer 2003 is PO!!

It's the one with getaway and primal on the cover. EB has then for $5.99 in store (kinda steep for a jampack i thought), but if you have any lying around this is great!
Just to post this here (I already did in the other EB thread) - the one you have traded is the M version. The regular Jampack Summer 2003 has ATV Offroad Fury and MLB 2004 on it and is POX. Just so everyone doesn't rush out with their regular Jampacks and get shot down :D.
Does anyone know if Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (GC or Xbox) works?
Probably, its fairly new. I would bet that Sands of Time is POX though.

Yesterday I traded in LoW2 [XB], Hitman2 and Devil May Cry 1, all worked just had to pay tax.

I got all those games for like under $5 each at TRU and Target before, major thanks to the OP for this deal and the exclusion list.

YMMV but would it be possible to, instead of getting the PS2 version, maybe get the PSP version of Gran Turismo 4 for free after trade-in? I assume both versions will be $49.99 anyway. Maybe instead of getting a free GT4 (PS2) on the spot, you could get GT4: Mobile (PSP) fully paid for via pre-order. Just a thought...

P.S. Are Gran Turismo 4 (PS2) and Gran Turismo 4: Mobile (PSP) going to be the same game? Or is the PSP version only going to feature, say, 50 cars?

games i used in the last 2 days:

shenmue 2
unreal championship 1
wolfenstein
otogi
timesplitters 2
blood rayne 1

all xbox

I very much doubt you'd be able to get GT4 for PSP with the deal, as it is tied to the UPC code (or maybe the EB SKU on their stickers). After they scan your games they scan GT4 and it automatically adjusts. You'd have to have a very special EB employee to override that and put in a GT4 PSP preorder for you :D.

GT4 for PS2 is ringing up $39.99, not $49.99, and then the deal adjusts it to $34.99 and then makes it fully paid for. I think GT4 for PSP is coming out at $39.99 too, though. So I suppose you could return the PS2 GT4 for $34.99 and then preorder the PSP version for $5 more. Not quite as good a deal, but better than $39.99 out of pocket.

Max Payne 2 ................ 5.38
Terminator 3 ................ 5.38
Starsky & Hutch ........... 5.38
7.75% CA Sales Tax ..... 2.71

Being able to score a sealed, brand-spankin' new copy of GT4 for free (pre-tax) after trading in all 3 games ............... PRICELESS!!!

Ok, a few details left out. I'd say it really depends on the cashier you're dealing with. The cashier at BB told me that only one coupon is allowed per item per household. After a couple of awkward moments, he bailed me out by offering to make 3 different transactions, one game and coupon per transaction. He was pretty cool about it. I wonder if he's a CAG member and knew what I was doing? If you are, and you're reading this, thanks dude! You're the best! Anyway, what was weird too is that the coupon didn't work with VF4: Evo, so I went back and brought back Starsky and Hutch instead. If that didn't work, they still have Rocky, Midway Arcade Treasures, and Bad Boys (if my memory serves me right). Quite a few contingencies, I might say. Too bad they didn't any have Psi Ops. Still, it was a good deal overall.

When I went to EB Games, the clerk there didn't even know about the promo. He was even wearing a GT4 badge and didn't know the promo. He started talking about how it's an old game, they had a promo back then, but not now, etc. etc. Sounds like I was the first person to ask him about this promo. When he rang up the 3 games, the total credit was barely $5 total. He was prolly thinking that I had no clue whatsoever or something. Anyway, after a few minutes of talking with him, I finally coaxed him into scanning the 3 games I was gonna trade in, then the GT4 box, all in one ticket. Lo and behold, the trade-in values of each of the 3 games climbed all the way up to 11.66 each, GT4's price went down to 34.99, promo # 3840 showed up, and all I have to pay was the 2.71 in sales tax. I thought I noticed that he was surprised (shocked, dumbfounded, flabbergasted, whatever you may wanna call it) that there was such a promo. I didn't have any cash, so I asked him if I could use my credit card to pay (for a 2.71 transaction!!!). I thought he had the look of resignation in him when he said "you can pay with whatever you want." Anyway, he was pretty cool in the end. When he was getting the copy, it looked like he was going for the one with the least scratches. Maybe he remembered me from last time, when I asked for a sealed copy of NGC Paper Mario when they were selling it for 19.99.

Thanks to all the people that posted in this thread. You guys rock!

Not to deflate your balloon there, but living in OR is great for a CAG.

Here's my last deal for GT4:

Starsky & Hutch ............ 4.99
Bad Boys ...................... 4.99
Rocky ............................ 4.99
0.0% OR Sales Tax......... 0.00

= GT4 for $14.97 :D

I did buy one when I was travelling in the DC area last week though, and even though Virginia has a sales tax, for some reason, I didn't have to pay it on the GT4 deal. I paid it on the Best Buy games for sure, but not on GT4 during the trade-in. I thought you didn't have to pay tax when trading straight up like that? Anyway, I don't need to think about it too much here in OR :D.

Hmmm.. must just be a California thing :D (I grew up there so no offense!).

The tax was zeroed out for me (would have been $2.72 or somethin). Transaction total was $34.99, payment was $34.99, done deal.
Has anyone used Strike Force Bowling or MTV Celebrity Deathmatch for the EB/GT4 deal?
Well, I answered my own question... yes, Strike Force Bowling (PS2) and Celebrity Deathmatch (PS2) will WORK!

I bought at Best Buy using $5 McD coupon:
Strike Force Bowling: $5.29
Celebrity Deathmatch: $5.29
Max Payne 2: $5.29
----------
SUBTOTAL: $15.87
-$15.00 Expected PRICEGRABBER rebates on all 3 games
----------
TOTAL SPENT $0.87

Went to EB games and the guy thought that Max Payne 2 (PS2) would NOT be qualified but he rang it up and everything worked great. The before PROMO trade in value = $4.00 TOTAL. The after PROMO total = $34.99. The GT4 was unopened and sealed and perfect... And no tax on the trade it here in NJ.

hell yes. I got GT4 for $10.

Got Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness for free at BB w/$5 off coupon (suprised it wasn't POX), Metal Arms for $5 (w/coup), and Midway Arcade Treasures for $5 (w/coup).

Not bad. thanks goes out to OP.

It's the price of living in CA, I guess. Yeah, I know that there are other CAG members here who got better deals than I did. I mean, kojubat got it for $11. Given the circumstances, though, it was the best deal available, and I was just really happy that it worked.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

Hey, you got a good deal - no doubt. I was just giving you a (very slight) hard time. I'd be all over that $10 deal, saetia, if I could find a Tomb Raider at any Best Buy. I got one for free when it first dropped to $5 a few weeks ago but haven't seen one since. I wasted that one on a GR trade-in (got $1.50 for it). I haven't seen any of the true $5 Best Buy games since then, actually. And I look, believe me :D.

Now I'm wondering if I should look into this Pricegrabber rebate thing. I've certainly bought enough qualifying games recently. It just seems like such a strange thing that they hand money out like that though...

How many others have to pay tax on this deal? Is it CA only?

In Wisconsin you don't pay tax and oddly enough (at my EB) if you return a game gotten via tradein and put it on a gift card (with a PIN code to use online :) ) they also refund the tax you didn't pay.

So, trade in 3 games get GT4 free (no tax) . . . return it get $35 back plus tax (like $36.75ish on a gift card). This is interesting because every preorder I've cancelled I get the credit on my Edge card (no pin on mine :whistle2:() without the tax back but the Edge purchases are tax free . . . fine, but if I transfer to (or "buy") a giftcard I lose the tax advantage (so $35 becomes $35 on a gc).

No prob io. I'd prolly have done the same thing.

Again, thanks to OP and all who posted about games that can be traded in.

BTW, I'm gonna use my n00b status as an excuse, but what does PO and POX mean? Based on the FAQ page, PO is pre-owned, but not sure if that's how it was used in context for the games you cant trade in. Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

Just to clarify, you CAN trade in POX games - they just don't qualify for most EB trade-in deals (and you'll probably get about 75 cents for them). There was one exception that I know of - the $10 bonus credit for 2 games deal back in Feb. The only thing they excluded then were sports titles. Since that coincided with the TRU 90% green tag sale it was good times... So if you have any old POX titles you might as well hold on to them to see if they bring a deal like this back (though probably not with the upcoming merger with Gamestop).

Yeah, I bought that TR like 2 weeks ago and have been waiting for some good deal to involve trading in a PO to unload it. There was only one copy left when I bought it.

lets just say I go the best buy and buy 3 $5 doller games to do the deal.
then I trade them in at EB for GT4
Then I would like to know what would happen if I then return GT4?
would I receive store credit,if so you could make a profit

You're right, that was a very good deal and for awhile even JamPaks got the increase . . . (I traded in about 14 JPs--gotten for .50 each--for over $70. But damn, had I known the bonus $5 was coming, I COULD have gotten 30 free copies (with that great coupon) of Mojo and Mad Maestro during the TRU sale and traded them in for $150 at EB . . .

In response to the post above, YMMV (or Your Luck May Vary). Some stores allow you to return the game for store credit and others will only give you back what the games would have gotten in the first place (which would really suck to $7 for it).
They'd probably give you store credit if you pretended to not have the reciept
Without receipt they may not take it back at all . . .

Another thing to do is get a gift receipt when you do the tradein . . . it should disguise how you got the game and increase your chances of them taking it.

He lied and was being a dipshit because EB always has broken ass deals and he is embarrassed he didn't think of it first. Go back when there is another person working and isn't having "one of those lifetimes".

That sucks. I have an EB receipt showing PS2 Metal Arms as PO on July 23rd. It is possible it has changed since then. I would have used another yesterday but I found a few other games at Gamerush to use instead. One of them was Starsky & Hutch which the guy assumed would be POX - to his surprise it wasn't :D. Is it possible Metal Arms is POX at that one store only? Someone earlier said that individual stores could add items to their own POX list. But I haven't had any problems at about 4 EB's.

Edit - saw saetia's post - Basically, I think he nailed it, though what I said is a distant second possible explanation :D

This certainly could be the case, but I think that it is more likely that he was an idiot. WHen I first came up to the desk, he said that he would give me $5 for the games and sell me a used GT4. Then I brought to his attention the huge sign in the front window....started digging for the brand new game, and found 15 sealed GT4s. I just stood there looking at this guy, wondering how in the world he could be employed. I guess that I'll have to stop in again, or drop by another EB. Last day, huh? Wish me luck fellas.

EDIT: In the event that the employee was only a partial idiot, could he have mis-spoken? I brought in Metal Arms, ATV Offroad 2, and Syphon Filter. I'm pretty sure that all of these are good.

metal arms is no longer good. I think it's because the trade in value is less than a dollar or something. I went with a friend last night and metal arms was the deal breaker for him as well. The two guys at the counter were trying to figure it out so they kind of did a trial and error with a game that worked since I just did the trade in a few minutes before and sure enough, it was metal arms that was holding my friend back.l Pretty sure your other two were good, and yeah it does seem odd since metal arms isn't pox.

Well, like saetia and I both said, Metal Arms WAS good using the deal just a few days ago. The trade in value I got for it was $2. If you are saying it is less than $1 now. then maybe they did change it to POX just Thurs or Fri. The less than $1 thing, by itself, is not the hurdle, though, because I traded in a PO Pryzm for PS2 as part of the deal and it's trade-in value was 50 cents - worked fine (this was just on Friday).

For those interested in my travails. I went to another EB, one that I enjoy going to more (i.e. outside of a mall)...and I ran into the same initial problems. Metal Arms, as has been reported a few posts up, is POX. The difference this time around is that the EB guy, who at first said that the offer was for either a pre-owned or a new GT4...went back to the sign, took a second look...and then became the most generous EB guy there ever was. He forced the 3 games through...and I got GT4. Hooray.

So cool that the guy was good to you!

Glad I'm not holding any Metal Arms (I've probably done 6-7 of them over the last 2 months). My store was down to the last few anyway and that way they remain for a gamer to buy instead of me getting the last one like I did with Bad Boys 2 . . . saving anyone from a bad gaming experience.

I returned another GT4 today for $42 (full price plus tax I never paid).
I returned another GT4 today for $42 (full price plus tax I never paid).
Did they give you grief for a return considering your total payment on the receipt was no where near value, or does EB generally give you full value no matter how you got the game?

Or did you just not provide a receipt?
Does this deal end today or am I mistaken?
yes, it ends today. When I was doing the trade in today, the manager said that too. He was a very kind person too.
