GTA:SA and the HD Loader

fuzzman24

CAGiversary!
first off don't get mad. i bought the game i just haven't been able to get home to pick it up yet. Does anyone know if GTA:SA works with the HD loader. i guess my other question is if the hdloader doesn't work, how are the loading times? thanks for any help.

Jeff

Even though the loading times have been addressed many times in numerous threads - the load times to enter buildings are about the same as the load times in the previous games. The load times for the cut scenes are either the same or longer - usually a little longer.

yes, GTA:SA works with the HDloader. It actually cuts down the time it takes to load when you enter a building down to a blink of the eye.

Hey man you look like you were scared of getting flamed or something This isn't Gamefaqs you don't get flamed on here unless you pretty much outright ask for it. People on here are usually very friendly about answering questions

How much are HD Loaders? It doesn't matter to me really, because I never had a HDD, and I have a new PSTwo. But, I never knew how much they were. Are there different versions?

Since GTA: San Adreas is a dual layer disc, I'm sure it only copies the first half of the disc, much like Champions of Norrath. Waiting for confirm though
Wait a sec, isn't GTA SA a DVD9 disc? You're telling me it it straight up works without doing anything else?
Pretty sure it was confirmed that GTA: SA was DVD5. Not 100% on it though.

Yeah see that's what I was thinking...you can enjoy the nice load times up until half the game is over though if you really want (and there's a much more difficult, time consuming, and slightly more illegal way to get it on there but I shall not condone nor discuss it).

You're right, it's on a DVD5. It was originally supposed to be on a DVD9.

I understand the difference between the formats in this context but whats the exact difference between dvd 5 and 9

Thanks for confirming.

well holy hell that was unexpected, when I get it from GR I may have to consider putting it on there to cut the load times. Playing VC with the reduced times was excellent.

so wait. after all that, will i only get half the game or not? if its dvd 5 i will get the whole game and dvd 9 i will only get half. which one is it?

In simple terms....DVD5 is a single layer disc around 5gb max capcity (actually it's typically closer to about 4.7, but u get the idea). DVD9 is a dual layer disc which increases the max to about approx. 9 gb on it.

The vast majority of games are single layer (DVD5), yet many films and some xbox games often come dual layer (DVD9).

No modes, just straight up copy it over. It's a DVD 5 disc. I believe it says on the back if it's a DVD9 where the DVD logo is.

It's totally worth it. The game doesn't load much faster initially but the load times when entering a building or mission are so very fast compared to off the DVD. I also feel like there is less pop up off the HD as well.

Thanks to TRU and their B2G1 sale, my buddy and I got this game for cheap (and I finally got Ninja Gaiden for cheap too!).

I thought all Xbox games were DVD9 disks, or am I wrong about that?

okay kinda off topic but.... the HD loader compatibility list stopped updating a little more than 3 weeks ago so i have no clue if any of my new games can be put on it :/ can anyone LMK about another HD loader compatibility site that is updated or inform me on HOW to find out what is compatible and what isnt... not using trial and error?

you find out what is compatible by tryin all the different combos of modes...those guys that have the sites for them did that themselves i think...

Ok, you guys have me convinced that I need an hdloader to save a lot of time while loading gta:sa. Can I still get an hdloader? If so where? Or can I not ask that?....*starts to back away slowly*

stealthyseal, i noticed the guy running the website w/the hd loader compatibility list hasn't updated the list in a few weeks, too. Maybe, he was told by sony to stop? who knows.
For the time being, i've been just buying my games and if the hd loader works, then great. Haven't noticed anything new lately that hasn't worked though. Gotta pick GTA soon, though.

I find it to be the most easiest to use and updated.
Just go to the GameFaqs board for the game and search for the HDLoader topic (there is always at least one). You can also use the site below which seems to be updated fairly regularly. It has Star Wars Battlefront on it anyway. Remember, this list is only for games that DON'T work or need a mode change to work. If your game is not on this list, it should work.

i'd be curious where you would put the hard drive

I suppose someone talented could use an external USB HD or access a remote volume through the ethernet port.

I'm sure it will happen. Have you heard of WinHIIP? It's already extended the use of HDLoader.

I just jumped on the hdAdvance 2 bandwagon last night and ordered it. Can't wait to pop in the 200gigger and start loading it up. GTA SA is so slow while it's loading I had to turn it off, I haven't been back since. but I will as soon as my mail gets here.

Mine froze up last night on the mission "SSS We Tip" Haven't tried any different modes since it was a "don't get a scratch on your car" mission, and I hate those. But, I played two missions after that on the HDLoader, worked fine.

Dont waste your money on anything more than 120 gigs, thats the most it'll read. Even if you buy a 200 it'll read 114 gig available. That's the largest HDyour PS2 is set to handle. I think it's 114, i forget now but it's just a bit below 120.

I have a launch PS2 and the actual dvd it doesnt load THAT bad it takes a second to load but it's not enough to make you turn it off. lol

I have adjusted my laser a couple times though since my system quit reading blue bottom disks and a couple other accessory cds so that may have improved my load time.

ill believe it when someone beats the entire game off the hard drive.
I'll let you know when I have.
UPDATE: Beat it last night. Played the entire game off my hard drive.
Damn zewone! What was your completion % when you finished?

I'm playing off the HD as well and just watched some vids on the net of SA in action. I cannot believe how much faster (instant, really) the transitions are from outside to inside with HDLoader.

I think I'm about 20 hours in and haven't even left Los Santos yet.
My completion % was 59.95% complete and 37 hours and 48 minutes in to it. I still have a lot to do.
I am 9.65% complete with 9 hours and 37 minutes into it so I have been averaging 1% an hour

HDAdvance Version 2 does support larger HDD (up to 200 GB) over the original HDAdvance and HDLoader. However, the Version 2 software usually retails for $5-$10 more than the original HDAdvance. It might be worth it to some people though.
