Guess M. Night Shyamalan 's Buried Secret.

He's run out of ideas.

I was doing some contract IT work at Sony operation formerly known as Columbia Pictures and while I was working on making a VP's Blackberry play nice with her PC she was watching this anti-piracy video. I'm very down on piracy but some of the rationales offered were laughable. THe subject of this topic was among the interviewed directors. He was shocked to find out that 'Signs' was available online as a VCD iso file a week before the movie opened. He blamed this for the movie's lesser success compared to his two previous outings.

The possibility that a credulous movie about crop circles was such an offensively stupid concept that plenty of people like me stayed away without any illicit previews.
signs was shaq-fuing awesome
Good to see I'm not the only one here who liked it.
that his movie is gonna be as stupid as signs, check maddoxs page for more info on how stupid signs was.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you've probably never even seen Signs. I can't think of any other reason you'd post such an ignorant comment.

Signs is probably one of my top 5 favorite movies ever. It was suspenseful, humorous, and extremely well-written. In fact, there was rarely any dialogue that didn't contribute something useful to the story, and it all fit together so tightly in the end that I was amazed at how well Shymalan covered his tracks.

Just because there was no sex or violence in it, or the fact that it had religious undertones, doesn't make it a "stupid" movie. Try having an open mind for once.

Now as for "The Notebook," THAT was a stupid movie.

I thought signs was very very good. Better than The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable due to it's spiritual bent. I just thought it was much better written.

The reason I started this was because of the whole "Buried Secret" documentary about to air on Sci Fi in a few weeks.

So what do you think the secret is? If it is just that he's a prick, well that's not much of a secret because there are a lot of those in the world.

But it's funny, this documentary that he hates is brought to you by his own movie.

lol, that the village movie looks scary as shit...... if theres 2 things i hate, its non-civilized communitys and things that only come out at night. fuck you m night shyamalan!

I tihnk it will be sometihng stupid like he is retiring. I think they may be using the title just to get more people to watch a reality documantery.

I enjoy all of M. Night Shamalama ding dangs movies. As to the big 'secret' i think that whole thing is made up to promote the movie more. A mockumenty if you will.

Unbreakable was the best superhero movie ever, before Spidey 2 came out. Who would have thought - M. Night disguised a comic book movie as a thriller. Brilliant. Too bad the studio butchered it and added that stupid "dragnet" ending, as it was supposed to be a trilogy.

yeah i thought the same thing so i looked it up, and turns out that he didn't direct it, he wrote the screen play for Stuart Little.

Woops, error on my part. But hey he did help in it.
And Idk why everyone makes fun of the Sixth Sense so much, I actually thought it was a good movie

*prepares to be flamed*

I thought all it's movies were good especially the music. Really really orchestrated quite well and definately not given it's props.

Oh yeh M. Night is a hermaphrodite.

Unless hes some part time hitman or a gay stripper i dont really give a shit. im guessing its gonna b some dumbshit that doesn't really matter to us....someshit like..he must of marryed Britney Spears or some dumb drug stuff.. The media love to take lil things n make it big...they make money off of ruining other peoples lives..jackasses...Nights movies are great...im still gonna watch his movies regardless of what the Sci Fi fukers have to say

His name is impossibly hard to spell? I'm not even gonna try else I embaress myself.

I really liked Signs. The acting was pretty good and it was a thinking man's scary movie so to speak. Nothing really jumps out at you (except the part where the alein sticks his hand under the door) but it's still scary. Take that Mexican birthday party movie scene thingey- you can't really be scared by that unless you're not thinking it to be so obvious. It's a bit hard to explain and even harder if you havn't seen it.

Unbreakable was kinda... sub-par though. Scared the crap outta me but... meh.

Secret? That he's a cross-dressing albino named Muriel with a mustard fetish and dead hobos buried in his backyard, no doubt. Really...what else could it be?

You kidding? In that mexican scene I was on the edge of my seat at the movie theater, and jumped 4 feet up in the air because I didn't know what to expect, and the sudden music got to me (i was right next to the speakers). Even when I watch it now i'm still a little freaked out during that part.
But i got kinda scared at the end too when the alien was reflected in the TV.

I LOVE(d) that movie though. I need to own it. Anybody know any cheapass deals on it, maybe 10$ or less? Appreciated :D

Signs was excellent, although it lacked in scary scenes or depth.

Is it ever explained why moon and star shapes were carved into the door at the end of the movie?

I have seen Signs. I even watched it a second time to try to determine whether I missed out on something the first time. Signs was one of my least favorite movies of all time and probably the most disappointing movie I have seen in the last 5 years. It was just so lame, from the dialog to the acting to the stupid aliens. I might have enjoyed this more if I didn't come to expect a lot after seeing the Sixth Sense.

exactly how was signs stupid, cause maddox said so?

Am I the only person left that doesn't follow the "crowd"

Signs being leaked a week before released did hurt it's box office, thinking otherwise is retarded. that's like saying VG piracy has zero impact on VG sales.

sign's was alright, except for the silly ending. I was expecting a shock or a turn, but instead i get an alien. oh well. The Village looks good

Virtually every film in the last five years has been in illicit circulation before its release. I've found VCD's of major film at swap meets on the same weekend they opened with a level of quality beyond what can be achieved by pointing a handheld camera at a theater screen.

In spite of this plenty of films have done massive box office. The take on popular films has been growing at a rate greater than inflation. If piracy is having a major impact on opening week box office receipts, which is the most profitable part of a film's theatrical run, it has yet to be demonstrated in any statistical analysis based on number of available venues and other contributing factors.

I watched 'Signs' when it came around on cable and it was every bit as bad as I expected. Very good production values and good actors but an awful screenplay with some very odd Old Testament manner to how it dispensed death and survival.

But most important of all was that the critical selling point of the movie was crop circles. I can't take any movie seriously if it purports to take crop circles seriously. I meet too many reality challenged idiots in real life who buy into such crap being anything other than simple pranksters to spend my money on a movie delivering the same insult.

I'd never seen that Maddox comic strip until just a few minutes ago but it's pretty accurate. It just goes to show the power of good movie making to cloud viewer's minds. I saw the ending of 'Sixth Sense' coming after the first reel but enjoyed the trip. It was a long form version of a Twilight Zone episode and a fairly old concept. The trick in 'Sixth Sense' was in not making the audience grow impatient waiting for Rod Serling to do a concluding voiceover and let them leave. 'Unbreakable' was great for treating the concept of the superhero from a different angle and making it fit in a believably real world. Making a superhero work outside of a SFX extravaganza was an ingenius feat.

Shyamalan has a tendency to shoplift from sources mainstream theater audiences won't recognize. The Sam Jackson character in 'Unbreakable' has a fragile bone disease inspired by a great Walt Simonson storyline in 'Thor.' Shyamalan acknowledges this by actually putting a Thor issue in Jackson's hand in one scene.

The dead man who doesn't accept his own death has been done many times and I've little doubt he's familiar with Jim Starlin's Dreadstar comic book series which had a similar character in the form of a wizard who had been fatally injured in the process of acquiring great power but remained alive after a fashion by sheer force of will and lots of prosthetics.

There was a great scene in one issue where the title character began to suspect the severity of his friend's condition. They are each standing on opposite sides of a pond. Dreadstar has a vision in which he sees Syzygy's reflection as the rotting corpse he really is. He mentions this to another friend who says he realized the truth long ago due to his much stronger sense of smell. When Dreadstar trie to ask Syzygy what this means he is cut off and told, "Belief is a very fragile thing. Just a word can destroy it." From then on he leaves well enough alone.

I read that maddox site twice last summer, and all I can say is someone needs to kick the shit out of him so he has something to really whine about. Instead he just bitches about this society that has rejected him, and he mocks it from the safety of his computer. You don't see maddox on Cold Pizza, now do you? Pussy...

I totally agree. At first it was semi-decent but now it just seems like he's writing stuff because he wants to and not because he really cares.

I thought the Sixth Sense was great...I never saw the ending coming. Unbreakable was my least favorite of his movies but it was still OK, and I also really liked Signs. The alien at the birthday party scared the shit out of me and still does every time I see it.

Did anyone else hear something about how the ending to The Village was leaked on the internet and he filmed a new ending? I could have sworn I heard that somewhere...

FROM THE NEWS ARCHIVES OF CINEMA CONFIDENTIAL

Shyamalan shooting new "Village" ending?
POSTED ON 05/24/04 AT 1:30 A.M.

Both Ain't it Cool News (http://www.aintitcool.com) and the Philadelphia Daily News are reporting that M. Night Shyamlan has called back Sigourney Weaver, William Hurt, Joaquin Phoenix, and Bryce Howard for a three-day reshoot for the ending of "The Village," which is scheduled to open in theaters July 30th.

While the studio denies that the shoot was the filming of a new ending, several key members of the production have claimed that it is, indeed, a different conclusion.

Speculation comes that Shyamalan has opted for a new ending after it was leaked in script reviews on the Internet.

Well I guess it is true. That kinda sucks, because it must be really really hard to come up with TWO endings for that movie, sinch he always makes them have a surprise or a twist. Hopefully the new ending wil be as good as the original.

From the NY Post THis morning:
July 9, 2004 -- THE deep dark secret that "The Sixth Sense" director M. Night Shyamalan is trying to stop the Sci Fi Channel from airing has to do with a 1981 drowning that occurred when he was 11 years old, PAGE SIX has learned. It is not known who the drowning victim was or how he or she was connected to Shyamalan, now 33. But the helmer has been trying to keep the cable channel from showing the exposé-type documentary that he originally cooperated with but later changed his mind about. In an internal memo, Sci Fi brass said they'd been accused by Shyamalan's lawyers of "defamation of character, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress" over the show. However, lawyers for the channel have given the go-ahead for the three-hour program, titled "The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan," and the air date of July 18 is still in place. Shyamalan has refused to comment on the documentary, which is airing less than two weeks before his new thriller, "The Village," hits theaters.

What do you mean, Stuart Little was pure M. Night. The twist ending was great too. I was blown away when they revealed that...

Stuart Little was actually a mouse! I was like "Hitchcock, bow down to Shyamalan, you dead bastard."

I'm betting that his movies are really utter over-hashed crap with a "twist at the end" that get way over-rated reviews. Oh wait, thats not a secret.
