Half-Life 2: Lost Coast is out.
Download now if you have Half-Life 2 for FREE.

I come home from work expecting to
play CS:S but to my pleasant surpise
Half-Life 2: Lost Coast is ready for
download. It says it needs
1gb of memory but I only have 512mb
oh well, hoping my 7800gt can make
up for that. I go to the options bump
everything up to the max. First impression
of the game is beautiful from the lighting
to the scenery, they just made it look
amazing. This is how games should look
and play except for a few choppy
moments (I guess I do need more ram).
Played it through 3 times in a row
One for the commentary
Two for the gameplay
Three for screenshots:

Dunno. Either way, that house stickin' through the mountain in the second shot doesn't give me much cofidence.

//edit: Just one level

"Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, a single-player level custom-created to showcase High-Dynamic Range (HDR) lighting in the Source engine, is available now to all owners of HL2"

So, essentially, a test map.

Its short as hell, and it didn't look very good on my computer, I noticed many glitches, the water leading into the ocean has a texture change crease all around it. But again, way too short...

It's free, yes; if you have Half-Life 2... but my PC doesn't come close to the minimum req's for Lost Coast. I wonder how it'll run...

I've been waiting for this. I really want to see HDR lighting in action. Although I'm sure I can run it at a max of 1 frame per second I hope it will run semi-smooth on my anceint yet overclocked x600 XT.

Far Cry had HDR. Without it, I ran 1280 very smooth. With, I was pushing it at 1024. HDR looked great in Far Cry though. I'm curious to see it in Half Life 2.

Are you sure that's not intentional, instead of a graphics glitch. The house may be on that side of the road, overhanging the edge a little.

It is, just look at the house above it, on the next level of the hill. It's situated the same way.

Some mag ran a story on how Valve plans to do episodic content releases over steam to test out new tech for xpacs/sequels/new games. This is for lighting effects.
