I guess it could just be an error, although the fact that it's on an MS site makes it seem like it could be legit.

If they do charge for it I wouldn't mind paying I suppose, as long as it's a small fee - like 5 bucks or so. We shouldn't have to pay that much more to get what a lot of people think we paid for in the first place (a complete story).

Personally, I didn't mind the way it ended but I know the majority of people disliked it.

From Bungie.net "WHAT'S UP" this week:
----------------------------------------------
Q: What's up with the listing on Xbox.com in Korea that says the downloadable content is coming out as a retail game release??

A: Next week, we’re going to have a major announcement about the details of our new maps. Right now, there are some dates, details and ideas out there that are actually wrong, so please take everything you read between now and then with a grain of salt. We can't talk about how and when the new maps will be released, we'll leave that to the smart folks who actually do all the logistical work for this stuff – marketing and PR, but we can tell you this much - our entire plan is designed to make new content available for everybody, those with Xbox Live and those without Xbox Live. We hope in the end, everyone will be satisfied.

Wow, new maps! Not like a real ending or anything...

This game should have been called Halo 1.5: XBL edition

Why is a "real ending" so important? Would you suddenly have gone "wow, what an EXCELLENT single player Halo had!" if there had been a more traditional ending?

Its the second game in a trilogy. Why is it so unreasonable of them to have left it with a cliffhanger?

here we gooooo....
mmn, did you create halo? did you have a part in designing it? did you press every halo game?
all i see you doing is sticking up for this game when people have something to say about it. leave it alone. it doesnt matter. people crap on everything and anything under the sun, there is no reason for your Save Halo2 Crusade. peoples reactions about the game are obviously split, so leave it at that becasue your Halo2 crap is wearing thin.

Quit baffling them with your wily logic...it only makes them angry, and when they're angry they throw their poo.

I'll be happy to stop sticking up for a game I really enjoy if people stop jumping on the "hate Halo" bandwagon.

If you don't like seeing my "Halo 2 doesn't suck" replies, tell these fuckers not to keep posting anti-Halo 2 stuff. Simple as that.

And look at where that got me. Besides the fact that im dead, everyone now wants to turn my work into a crappy movie.

well anytime anything popular gets released there's going to be droves of trolls crapping on it, cause they jumped on the bandwagon of hype and were dissapointed. It's just life. The people who love the game aren't gonna post about it, and if they do, nobody cares. The people who hated it will post 500 topics and poeple will argue and give it attention..

Is that because you didn't write in trilogies? I think it's because of the closet homosexuality.

If you would have just been honest with yourself, you may still be alive.

I really enjoy Halo 2. Well, mostly XBL play (can't wait for some new maps). I enjoyed the single player game, but some parts more than others. When the game ended, I was all pumped and ready to fight some more, having no clue it was going to end. It wasn't announced that there would be a third game, or that this was going to be a trilogy. It just ended. The campaign mode suddenly didn't seem as fun anymore, because I didn't get to finish it. I will buy a third game in the series, if and when it comes out, but it wasn't like I was watching Matrix Reloaded, SW:tESB, or LofR:TTT. I knew there would be a third movie and things wouldn't wrap up (heck, I was a bit mad at Reloaded. It seemed it stopped TOO suddenly), but with Halo 2, there was no such knowledge.

At first I didn't like the Halo 2 ending, but now I don't mind it. What would you guys rather have? One level to end Halo 2 and the Human-Covenant war, or another Halo game?

One level to end Halo 2. I don't think I can stomach the disgusting amount of hype Halo 2 got again with another sequel

Anybody that believes the Halo series will end with the next installment deserves to have his/her vocal cords removed so they cannot spread their stupidity in the real world.

That being said, I just finished campaign mode for the first time on Halo 2 last night...And it didn't suck because of some lame ending, it sucked because it sucked. There's a reason I've logged hundreds of hours in the multiplayer but finished the single-player 4 months after release.

Man, I knew reading this that it was gonna get blown out of proportion. More than likely this seems like a way for Bungie to offer downloadable content to those that don't have Live. Though the IGN story seems to make more of it than that too so maybe they know something.

I just hope content is free on Live, but if they charge like ten bucks for a disc for non-Live users I don't care.

I might as well throw my hat into the ring on my take of halo 2's ending. First off, no doubt, this is the second game in the trilogy. Thus a complete conclusion should not ever have been expected. However, there is a certain dissapointment and frankly anger when I know a developer clear takes advantage of a consumer. Halo 2's ending was just that. The ending wasn't a cliffhanger, it's the equivalent of a gameover screen. The game ended for no reason other than the fact that they felt like ending the game there. Not for dramatic effect, not for gameplay or story purposes. But for the for the fact because they could. they're pretty much saying "You're gonna buy halo 3 anyway! Let's end the game now cause MS wants it out the door." I'll give you an example of a good cliffhanger. The Empire Strikes Back. This was the second movie in the trilogy and ends with a cliffhanger. Not everything was solved, the rebels didn't win yet. But at least the movie had closure. It left you wanting more in the good way, not in the "WTF that's it?" way that Halo 2 has. I hope I did my best to explain why I am many people are dissapointed with the single-player campaign. But these are my main reasons.

Heh, and I feel the opposite...I don't care if they charge Live users, then give it away via OXM for free later. Didn't that happen with Full Spectrum Warrior? Or was it another title? Either way.

I gotta disagree with the Empire comment. I don't think Halo 2's end was that much different and basically follows the same principle of how Empire leads into Jedi.

Halo 2's ending really isn't that much different than the first Halo to me. I think where Halo 2 falls flat is that the action just isn't there compared to the first one. The story is adequate as far as that goes. I think if Halo 2 was first and then Halo came out we'd get most of the same complaints though.

Because it smacks of laziness and poor storytelling.
It's the same reason Back to the Future 2 bothers me to no end.

20 bucks? for 9 maps, a video and another Bungie Making of???
i dont know thats kind of expensive when all people want are those freakin maps.

a lot of people arent going to pay for those maps. but will they be required to play on Live? how are rankings going to be equal when some people have to play on new maps which includes being disoriented compared to the people that play teh same old maps and know them by heart?

EB put this up on their website this morning, but took it off probably because it was too early.

It said: Halo 2 expansion pack which contains: 9 new multiplayer maps, a new FMV cinematic, and a new mini-documentry of behind the scenes stuff at Bungie.

Not word for word, but the jist of it. Not sure if they are gonna charge Live players as this could just be for people without access to Live.

Actually an EB link was posted on Gamefaqs last night about a Halo 2 disc with 9 new maps and some DVD content for $20. It was taken down this morning however, and I didn't get a screen cap however i did see it last night, a guy on GF said he email to people so I'll ask him to email it and then I'll post it.

If they are going to sell it via dvd, then I would rather get all my friends together and everyone throw in some change and buy the hard copy and install all the maps rather than DL them. (That would be if I did play this game)
You mean they want to charge $20 for 9 LIVE maps? That is just plain dumb.

I would pay $5 for some D/L content
They will probably charge more to the people without Live since Microsoft never got the $50 a year from them. I would assume that Live subscribers will either have a cheaper price for D/L or maybe even free.
Sorry it looked so crappy but this is the one that was up last night, It was just minimized a lot.
When you click on it looks like a new window. Its good quality to me at least.

There you guys go with that logic crap again...

I don't believe that link on EB. You really think they're going to wait until late in MAY to release the new maps?

It'll probably be $5 over XBL and if you want the DVD its $20. No big deal - I don't need the DVD.

BTW, what are guys complaining about? lets take SC:pT for EX: its was for 2 maps.... now if this goes into proportion, you should only get 8 maps for 20, but you get one fre... but that DVD shit I can live with out.

No, but he should. Those battles had no payoff. You give me a 3-hour movie, but can't show the good guys winning in the end? It's just a bunch of horses and Gandalf, and we're to assume that turned the tide 180 degrees. They don't even show the main bad guys biting it.

It's probably just the wrestler in me aching for comprehensive storytelling, but I found a lot to be desired about LoTR's battles.

I wish Bungie would release the maps on an OXM disk instead of selling the maps for $20 (or would include it for subscribers).
If this does turn out to be true I'll just get a used copy of the disk.

Yeah because WRESTING is the place to go for comprehensive storytelling.

By the way, who was it that lifted the briefcase away from Austin again?
