Halo 3 commercial discussion.

Good lord. Why do I even continue to waste twice as much time as I need to on boards where at least half the people aren't even half my age?? And yes, I apologize for going all 'Bilbo' there.
A couple of things I have noticed -

The rest of them are definately Elites.
Really? I looked and paused many times, they didnt look like Elites, atleast not as they looked like in H1 and H2, maybe they have different armor.

I agree. I posted later on the page with my change in opinion. :)

1. The "X" button does not make you run nor does it give you a grenade shield just because it shows it in the movie. Those are just theories (good and obvious ones) and until Bungie personnel unveils, it won't become fact.

2. This is just a CG movie, nothing more or less. In fact, it's not even made by the same in-house Bungie animators who will be doing the work we will actually see and play in the final build.

3. The only "gameplay" footage you actually saw on Monday night was the football game.

I was just... kind of wondering.....

Does anyone have any ideas how we can get Captmurphy and Michaellvortega more interested in the Halo universe? It just makes me sad, I wish they played the games religiously and knew the lore like the rest of us.....

:bouncy:
:applause:

On a serious note, the number one factor that will elevate my interest in Halo 3 from "Whatever, it's a year a way, who cares" category to "Holy shit I can't wait" category will be if they allow Co-Op over live this time.
After Gears and RE6, I would feel Halo 3 is crippled severely without it.

On a quick trip to Wikipedia, I believe my guess on a November release date is further solidified. The title of the commercial is "Starry Night", which has 11 letters in it. Van Gogh's painting, "Starry Night", also has 11 stars in it. Plus the fact that you can hear "27" "November" as he puts on his helmet, leads me to believe that November is in fact the release date.

/end rampant speculation, :)

In addition PDZ a launch title had Co-Op over live from the get go.

No, I'll just hit the 'Mute' button on you. Along with the other guy below. This "Ignore" feature sure is fun! It's like a superpower or something!

Doesn't Cortana rat out Master Chief and everyone else to that alien thing at the end of the Halo 2 credits?

Nothing is for certain. But there's been a lot of speculation about Cortana's motives. If you've read the Halo books, I'll admit that I have, you'll know that AI's have a certain lifespan before they become "rampant." I don't quite remember why, but I think it has something to do with the amount of information they collect through their lifespan. The amount of data they contain becomes so overwhelming that they basically become crazy. If you play the games, and read the books, they give you subtle hints that Cortana is not as "sane" as she used to be, and in the books I believe, they give further hints into Cortana's thoughts.

Yes. In the 3rd book Cortana copies a couple of her sub-routines a couple of times to do a number of tasks simultaneously (she was carrying massive quantities of data regarding forerunner structures and flying a covenant flagship). Copies cause problems in the AI wiring. The books explain that the lifespan of an AI is short... about 7 years if I remember correctly. The AI's basically get too smart and the connections between logic processors get too complex and eventually collapse on themselves.

I don't buy into the whole "Cortana betrays humanity" theory as much as I just think she is a curious being and wanted to try and learn more about her situation.

And yes, I do believe this qualifies me as a total dork.

4 pages later and we have our first 100 percent accurate statement!

I keed, I keed. So, assuming I've never really played Halo before, please give me a primer on what I should do to learn a little bit more before Halo 3 comes out. Play Halo 1 / 2, obviously, but how many books are there/are they any good if you're not a super fan/how long are they/are there any cliffs notes available?

The games really only brush the surface of the story. It really is a well fleshed out universe. The 1st book explains the birth of the Spartan program and follows John through his childhood, to his first mission, to getting augmented, to getting the Mark V MJOLNIR armor and the fall of Reach (the events leading up to Halo 1). The second book details the happenings of Halo 1 and is probably not an essential read. The 3rd book explains what happens between Halo 1 and 2, and is, in my estimation, the tastiest tidbit in the Halo universe.

The Halo graphic novel doesn't really advance the main story arch a whole lot. OH also if you can get your hands on the bonus DVD in Halo 2 it has some extras that explain some backstory.

I havn't been able to start the new 4th book that came out at the end of October... too much reading for college right now. Christmas break is coming up, so I will read it then. From what I have read it doesn't really talk too much about the Chief, but rather follows the beginnings of the new Spartan III program (MC was a product of the Spartan II program if I remember correctly). It bridges the gap between halo 2 and 3 without giving too much away. Again, this is what I have read from other people, as I have not read it myself.
And who says all this stuff in the books is canon that the games must follow and sync with?
The Halo Bible. Yes. There exists such a thing.

Ripped off of 1up:

Ever since Bungie Studios gave 1UP and EGM a peek at Halo 3, we've been drooling over the small bits that have appeared since, constantly on high-alert for suspicious rumors that seem to "leak." Bungie's good at keeping secrets, but they're going to pull back the veil of secrecy a little farther later tonight when "ViDoc" (Video Documentary) premieres on Xbox Live later tonight.

The roughly seven minute video premieres at 2:00 a.m. PST for Xbox 360 owners and over the next 24 hours the video will go live internationally on the service. There will be a downloadable version made available eventually, though we suspect YouTube and GameVideos will see decent versions almost immediately following the premiere.

What can we expect to see? A glimpse of the single-player campaign, for one, and plenty more about the Brutes, who Bungie refers to in today's blog teaser as "the bad guys," effectively killing, once and for all, speculation the Brutes were to become a new playable race. Remember the hammer-wielding Brute from the end of the cinematic trailer? Maybe he'll make an appearance, too.

Looks like it should be up much later tonight for us EST folks. Just thought I'd let you guys know :)

I don't understand why everyone made such a big fucking deal about the the Brute holding the hammer in the commercial. Tartarus carried a giant hammer the entire time in Halo 2, and when the commercial comes out people completely forget and go "HOLY SHIT!!! HE'S GOT A fuckING HAMMER!!#4234 OMGZ134! MAYBE IT'S USEABLE!#$ OR REPLACING THE SWORD!!^^^"

So dumb.

Just watched the video. I have to say...I'm slightly disappointed. They don't really give you all that much about the Brutes. They simply tell you about the visual upgrades they've made, and how they think that the Brutes will be more fun to kill. I was expecting more of a backstory about the Brutes.

Also, is anyone else wondering why Bungie keeps releasing screenshots/footage of their not-nearly unfinished game??? The MP screenshots, though early, look like Halo 2.5. The campaign footage, again though every early, looks like ohh IDK, about Halo 2.7 in terms of graphics. Bungie is usually EXTREMELY tight-lipped about their games, and I think it's weird to me that they're giving us so much when there's so much development time left.

I'm guessing forced by Microsoft to counteract any Wii/PS3 hype by going "WELL LOOK WHAT'S ON OUR HORIZON"

Anyways I was fairly impressed with this video. The armor looked fantastic and the animation was just -worthy.

I forgot I downloaded this. I watched it and am going to start the first two games this week or next while I am off school.

I'm disappointed by it too. It didn't really even satisfy my need for new Halo 3 material. The brutes look a bit... too different. The most exciting part for me was seeing how the shotgun/smg looked, and they look about the same. I think showing the non-polished/finished graphics is a way for them to show us what's in store for us, but without showing us all that much. If that makes any sense. There's no way they're going to release the game looking like that.
