Halo 3 - General Discussion & Info

Not sure if someone's already noticed this and posted it, but those notes that sound, are the notes to Halo. So I guess if it's available on a multiplayer, a good youtube project would be to make the notes with people jumping through the holograms
 
Damn for me geting the rest of the armor unlocked is going to be a pain.

Broly, I will help you if you want and after we get the skull mind helping me get the famin skull? Also I have never tried to get the IWHBYD skull.

One on 1 and 2, Another on 3 and 4, Yet another on 5 and 6, and the final one on 7 and grabbing the skull. It takes about five minutes that way. And you can grab the Thunderstorm skull, as well as the Too close to the sun acheivement at the same time. As well as Used Car Salesman if you're lucky.
 
Are there any hints whatsoever on how to achieve that really obscure skull that requires hopping through a huge sequence of rings in a certain order? I haven't gotten that far in the game, but it sounds completely arbitrary and stupid. Am I wrong?

XBL user FeatherLegs quit as soon as we passed the skull around just to make sure, and he got Hayabusa helmet. He's the one I took pics of.
 
I didn't finish the level when I got the IWHBYD skull aswell, but still got it. (though I did finish it normally the day before, just not when I started a new campaign lobby)

EDIT: I don't know why, but I got the used car salesman achievement by destroying a turret on a phantom in Mission 2. The Phantom didn't even blow up, maybe it killed 3 enemies that were jumping off?

I had problems getting that by myself, then I relasized I had one of those shield things, so I used it and jumped on top of it and then reached the skull with no problem.
 
i got all the skulls co op and most of the time my friends were the ones that grabbed the skulls and we all got credit after i ended game
 
Ok, in the second level, you can go down a dead-end hallway after the first firefight and come across two soldiers bickering back and forth about a password and a staff meeting...

Has anyone else noticed they sound a LOT like Grif and Simmons from Red vs Blue?
 
The Ark skull is retardedly stupid. You waste 30 minutes getting to the spot where it's at and then risk a 50/50 chance of killing yourself grenade jumping to it.

Seriously how does Bungie manage to spend 30 million dollars on a really marketable game and manage to make some things about it wretchedly horrible?
* Matchmaking system is a joke, no custom map selections, game selections
* All 4 people in party have to party up or you all go back to matchmaking
* No forge search, invite and join only on friend list

And then the skulls, which aren't really SECRETS since they're part of the achievements, but you have to do stupid crap that usually ends up getting you killed to get them, PAIRED with the fact that when you die you have to start over.

Bravo Bungie... Bravo.
 
With the terminals do you have to play all of the game from the start or can you just play the levels they are on. I have one already but don't remember where I got it. So I was hopeing I could just play the one level get the 3 then quit that level and go to the next that has them. So can I do that or do I have to play from the start.

I just piled 3 ghosts ontop of each other to get that skull (2 facing each other, one lying perpendicular ontop of those 2, so it doesn't tilt when I land on it)

and I agree about the issue with custom matches and forge. These features are pretty moot since you can only use them with friends and party members. Other than heavier load on their servers, I can't think of a good reason why they didn't include a server browser.
 
I love matchmaking, but I've been on the same map in the same game type various times. I HATE shotty snipers but I LOVE team slayer. Yet I can't choose to not play shotty snipers, even though I know I'm balls with it. I remember I played Snipers on that small map with all of the snow and the bases in matchmaking, so sidiculous.

I also hate that Forge and other Custom games are invite only. Pretty lame if you ask me.

You'd have to have 300 people on your friend list to ALWAYS have people to play forge with.

How'd you get the ghosts up there at the ark?

I also got it by destorying the phantoms turret but in the 1st level. I was only shooting the pahtoms turret only and it gave it to me. Maybe it's an achivement glitch?

Was kind of tricky. There's a small rock near the last pillar (near where the enemy Ghosts idle) supporting the bridge that has the skull. I think it was last rock you see on the right before you make a turn. It doesn't have a high steep so you can boost your way up onto the mountain. (might have to wiggle a bit)

Once you make it up you have to back yourself into the opposite end so your facing towards the bridge opening. There's a very small incline that you have to use to get onto the bridge. Just boost over it and you should barely make it over the bridge. (most of the time the nose of my Ghost hit the edge and did some nice flips)

Not sure if my wording helps. The incline you need to use will probably be the hardest to find, but it's the one thats the same level/slightly-higher than the bridge.
 
The one at the ark is a pain to get. whoknows and I spent I dont know how long trying to get it. I thought the hunters would be a bitch to beat to get to it but we took them down really fast. I now just need the last 3 of the silver skulls. Just hope I don't have to deal with a hunter on the next 3. Also the last one when jumping the rings, does the order start from when you first get up there or at the one at the end.

I just need 3 more skulls, but sadly one of them is in Mission 8, which is horrible and I really don't want to go through that crap again :\

Which ark skull, the silver or gold? The order of the ring start from the elevator, also you start(Jumping through) when you defeat the flood (all of them). You'll know you did it correct when the rings start glowing.
 
Has anyone tried to flip the Elephant yet? I tried for like a half hour on Forge, and couldn't do it. I used all the items, vehicles, and took the elephant around the map on every area and tried to flip it. Is it even possible?

yes, i was in forge on sandtrap and one elaphant drove another into a huge rock and flipped it.
 
I'm not too sure if I'm all that fond of the community so far. I've had several pieces of trash with a limited vernacular throw out insults and curses like it was their job.

From what I read on other boards, you have to wait for it to close itself instead of hitting A.
 
awww....really? Sometimes if i wait for them they go into this Red mode and some more stuff comes up. But im waiting right now for this one to close down by its self and nothing. Maybe thats what it means?

Edit: Just got Marathon Man! Yah! Gotta make sure SOME of the terminals turn red when you read them. So read it all the way through till u cant go any farther then wait for a minute or so. If it turns red your good. Read it all and exit. If it doesnt then your good to go!

do you gut any achievments for the other skulls like the IWHBYD if u collect them all?

I'm pissed here. I just accessed
ALL 7 Terminals
and I didn't get the achievement. Am I doing something wrong here?

Did you have to go back and access one you missed? If so you have to restart the whole level over and not use the middle check point. Not sure if thats what you did i'm just tossing ideas out there. :)

I'd like to knock out Covenant on Legendary if anyone's up for it. (We'd need at least 3)

I'm also up for skull hunting and I'll even help you with skulls you've missed that I already have. I know how to get the IWHBYD skull too.

Quick question-- I just got to Chapter 9-- how long is it? I wanna finish it tonight, but not if it's super long.

I hit and accessed them all. I didn't go through everything on the terminals, and I didn't finish the levels they were on. But that shouldn't matter. I didn't use check points, but I died a couple of times.

Halo right?

It's not that long actually depending on the difficulty you do it at.

At Normal I'd say 25-30 minutes.

On Heroic though solo it is a pretty hard mission because of the climb to the top of the Temple thing. It's literally a cluster-**** of Flood coming at you and you have to kill ALL of them, no skipping.

Had the same thing happen to me.

Turned out that when I was doing coop with my buddies to get the skulls on the ark, they skipped part of the messages in the terminal.

You must read it entirely! (screen turns red and alarm sounds, then you have stuff to read after that too)

damn. I am on Heroic and nearly poured buckets of water over my rig while trying to
rescue cortana

hate the flood. SOOOO much. :lol:

Ya know what? fuck Halo 3's bullshit matchmaking.

Why cant I pick the game mode or map that I want to play?

I'd like to be able to play team slayer or slayer, or cap the flag without the game constantly sticking me into gheyass fucking swordfights or hammerfests, or even worst, utter crap like Juggernaught or Oddball.

Its not like its a technical hurdle for Bungie to overcome, I was able to sort games by map since Quake II, and that was what? Over 10 years ago?

It's pure egoism on Bungies part, they invented all these shit game modes that noone wants to play, but by god they are gonna make you play them.

And even worse, if your playing a ranked match, and you exit a game of Juggernaught, or some other random crap you dont want to play, you lose 2 points of experience. So you can lose rank cos you dont want to play gheyball or suckernaught.

They only way to play exactly what you want is thru custom games, with your friends. Want to play a simple game of slayer with regular weapons? Well you can... every 4th or 5th match. Tonight I literally had to cancel out of 5 Juggernaught matches in a row before I got a decent game mode.

Dont get me wrong, I love Halo when Im playing what I want, but fuck Bunjie for not letting me do just that.
