"Halo 3 is the star wars of the video game generation".... ugh don't get me started

I would have to disagree with this statement. Halo 3 may set the standard for console shooters sure.

But I think the real game that set the stanards for all shooters were the Half-Life series.
First, HL1 in the late 90's and now Hl2 today. There is no other fps game that has been more revolutionary in terms of concept that Half-Life and Half-Life 2 delivered.

Halo and Star Wars have a lot in common, both inspire an emotional attachment in a certain generation of people, both have rabid fans who vastly over-estimate the film/games importance to the general populace and both are viewed through rose-tinted glasses which causes people to see them as being much better than they actually are.

Star Wars is a good series of films with a relevance and place in cultural history, it is not a great series of films. Halo is a good series of games, there are better games but perhaps Halo has managed to capture a place in pop-culture that other, perhaps not as well marketed games, have not.
