Halo: Reach

as much as I enjoy performing assassinations, they showcase way too many in the Defiant Map Pack trailer...almost making it kinda cheesy and I find myself tapping my foot wanting to see more of the map and not some playing getting shanked. *shrugs*

hopefully the maps are good and balanced and not just pretty maps with a lot going on in the background to distract you.
 
The pack looks pretty good. Little disappointed that there's no love for Invasion, and I'd also like to know what the achievements look like.
 
Condemned looks like the best one to me, though I'm hoping they're all competitive maps; I don't really give a shit about Firefight, and there's a boatload of FF maps already.
 
Looks good, but hopefully the FF map can double as a multiplayer map down the line.

1) I am going to pass on this map pack. I purchased the Noble pack and I hardly play the new maps. I don't like playing in the Noble Pack Playlist because everyone is going for achievements (ex: team quits because they did not arm the bomb in Invasion). Not to forget that I only have 500 MSpoints, not willing to buy $20 worth of points for $10 DLC I don't really want. New achievements is no incentive for me.

2) I'm a big fan of Invasion and I love Invasion Skirmish

Hey Iceblue,

I tried playing Halo 3 on legendary and just couldn't do it. And I don't consider myself a poor Halo player. Reach, OTOH was very doable. Probably since there are some times when you are partnered with some of your noble team buddies and they are invincible. Even though they don't actually do too much killing, the fact that they are present, never die, and draw fire helps immensely. Legendary isn't necessarily hard because of the difficulty of the enemies, it's hard mainly due to the fact that there are a ton of them and you're usually alone (because your AI teammates die in 5 seconds) so the second you peek out from cover 15 guys shoot at you simultaneously. Reach legendary goes a long way to solve that, and it made it a lot more enjoyable.

Finally got Captain last night thanks to Bungie's generous Daily Challenges. Really enjoying this game more and more. Looking forward to the next maps.

Halo 3 on legendary when that was the only Halo game out was doable because you were used to how unforgiving it was...after playing Reach and ODST, going back to H3 legendary it seems frustratingly impossible. I'll tackle it one day when my friends are bored and wanna do something retro.

Normally I'm fine with AFK - FF'ers but when the weekly challenge is completing waves. Those guys really need to get slapped with rotting fish stank and the banhammer...sure you can score more points by killing enemies but one, two, and even 3 idlers slows down the game so much. FF Arcade can be done super quick but without everyone contributing the game clock runs it's course, I'd rather play score attack than have to spend 14-15 minutes helping some d_bag get his weekly challenge.

I got more ms points from promos and since ms points don't collect interest the Defiant pack will be in my que when it comes out.
 
You lot crying about how tough Halo 3 legendary was need to buck up. Try running Halo 2 legendary if you really want something to cry about. I gave up on a solo run once I reached the waterfall with the Drones.

Haha, yeah Halo 2 Legendary was straight rape especially. Those damn Jackal snipers were insane. It was like pop out and bam you get headshotted. I didn't particularly love Halo 2's campaign but it was definitely more difficult than Halo 3 and Reach's imo.

I'm having a lot of fun with this game. Liking it a lot more than I was expecting it to. Hit me up for some CAG sessions fellas. Would like to play with people other than idiot randoms. All in all this is a nice change of pace from the bullshit that has been COD these last few weeks.

Just discovered Swat. I'm fucking loving this. Haven't had this much fun with a halo game since 05 when I got Halo 2 and xbox live for christmas :lol: Oh the good old days.

Actually never got into that. I just played slayer in 3 with all my friends but I never even knew Halo 3 had a swat mode haha.
 
Over 50 days played in Firefight... how could anyone stand that much FF over just 5 months? That guy spends 24 of every 72 hours playing FF! :joystick:
 
Got all the achivements last night (Finally got cross mappin'). Looking forward to the new DLC achievements to further my gamerscore.

Any mention if GS is offering any/another avatar award bonus for preordering the defiant map pack?

...as for the new helmet in the screenie, while i'm glad to see the possibility for new armor, that's got to be the ugliest helmet I've ever seen in the history of games. if the helmet is a hoax, it's working because the buzz that it generates on the forums makes Reach, ms, & 343 looks good for investors. The rank cap and cR cap made Reach one of the most talked about topics on videogame forums that quarter.

idk, that is a good question. It's coming out in like 18 days, I don't think that is enough time to make something happen at GS.
 
The helmet looks like a variation of GUNGIR and EOD. Which I think looks awesome.

I hope it doesn't cost an outragoues amount of credits.
 
even if they did have another set of shoulder pads, a helmet, and chest piece...how long til you got tired of that and went back to whatever it was you were wearing before? or ppl just flamed you for wearing the new dlc armor?

I actually played with some all star winners last night (all screen shot/forum avatar winners), slightly bummed they're giving them out like halloween candy lately with no end to when the contests will cease. 38 stars out there and 7 more each week.

in other news: the guy from 343 studios said the Defiant map pack will include something that will be revealed in the coming months...so it's possible they might actually have something other than easter eggs. *shrugs*

pp - your links are showing up as error 404...there's some spacing issues with your links, but they work if you backspace between them.

I like the composition of the 2nd one but it doesn't really showcase or say Jetpack at all, so my vote goes for the ranger elite jetpacking under the night sky...maybe another variation of it.
 
I took some more Jet Pack pictures. I tried to emphasize the jet pack more, but getting a good angle is tricky. I used an ODST because the Bullfrogs use jet packs.

most of the shots look good where you see the ODST's front, the back shots while showing the jetpack don't express as much mood imo...but, remember...bungie's judging system is completely random. i.e. All Star Week 1 (Auntie Dot)

I think most of them would definitely get featured, as for being one of 7 stars awarded...I really can't say because of how they judge.
 
I like the bottom 2, the ODST and the Ranger Elite.

Generally in the western world, light to dark, left to right...so the ODST composition lets the eye flow well without any harsh focal points. The ODST one also tells more of a story than the others...like he's telling someone who's uploading visual or something he's about to do his job to the bitter end.

The Ranger Elite is just nice because it seems natural...but a bit heavy on the left side.
 
bah garbage, we didn't win the jetpack screenie or the bungie card contest...but I must admit some of the winners certainly deserve the stars and whatever goodies bungie is going to be sending the card sharks which I'm curious to know. (my guess some autographed stuff)

well...game on!
