Wow. Tae Guk Gi....dont worry Vulgarism, that movie made me cry too. One of only two movies that ever got me to do that....

I dont know if I would say Korean films are better than Japanese films though. While I love a great many Korean films and I think they have mastered the art of the romantic comedy (to the point that they are watchable...dare I say...good), of my top five asian films it is a direct split down the middle between Japan and Korea (literally 2.5 and 2.5 because one was split between the two countries). Perhaps we should start an asian film discussion thread/group?
Let's do it! I'm sure Handsome would be down on being on it too. Just curious, what are your top 5 Asian films? I think my list would be:

1. Gozu
2. A Bittersweet Life
3. The Good, The Bad, The Weird
4. Suicide Club (Bowling alley song is the greatest thing ever)
5. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

And, to keep this on topic....

Six String Samurai - $1

1. Asako In Ruby Shoes
2. All About Lily Chou Chou
3. Once Upon A Time in Highschool
4. Memories of Murder
5. Swallowtail Butterfly

I do love Suicide Club (I own three copies), it would probably be in my top ten. I did really like Sympathy (I think it is one of the best trilogies out there), but I havent felt the need to ever rewatch it (I thought Old Boy was more entertaining). I have heard good things about Bittersweet Life and The Good The Bad and The Weird, but I have yet to see them. As for Gozu, I had never heard of it and I am not normally a Miike fan, but I will definitely look into it now, perhaps I have just seen the wrong Miike...

I am actually a member of a website called "The Asian DVD Club", while it does serve other purposes aside from a forum for discussion, it is a great place to talk asian film. Let me know if you look into it and decide to join...

I suppose its time for me to contribute to the topic, so:

Gah now I'm going to feel like a retard because most of my fave Asian films ARE Japanese. No, I'm not talking about that heathen Miike.
I'm talking about Kurosawa. And also some of my favorite Asian movies are either Chang Cheh or Lau-Kar-Leung Shaw Bros. Kung Fu flicks. I'm going to give you guys a list in no particular order because I can't rate them. (Except for my favorites, Seven Samurai and Red Beard by Kurosawa) I did see a movie a couple years back called Adrift in Tokyo which I absolutely ADORE. I can't remember who directed it though.

Kung Fu
Master Killer (36 Chambers), One Armed Swordsman, King Boxer, Crippled Avengers, My Young Auntie

Japanese
Seven Samurai, Red Beard, Yojimbo/ Sanjuro, Adrift in Tokyo, Battle Royale, etc.

Korean
All of Chan Wook Park's movies. I haven't seen JSA (TRAVESTY!) or I'm a Cyborg yet. I kind of like The Host.

I'm sure I forgot to list many but I want to update my earlier comment. I just don't think NEWER Japanese movies are as good as NEWER Korean movies.

I'm kind of a noob at asian movies so I can't hang with you two old hands. I will be buying the BluRay of Brotherhood of War ASAP because of your guys recommendations, I wonder if it will play on U.S PS3?

Oh and to everyone...

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR BIDS SO FAR! YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!

Good shit man. I saw them in June in Pittsburgh and it was totally awesome. They didn't play The Fragile front to back or anything like they did The Downward Spiral the other night did they? Glad you had a good time!

Bump for a baller! /drunk

Naw man they've been laying low with the Fragile stuff, I was hoping to hear The Big Come Down but instead they surprised me with The Way Out Is Through. They did play Ruiner and I Do Not Want This, which was good times.
