Has anybody ever had a GOOD experience at FYE?

No offense if you work there or like the store but I find it's a hell of a pain in the ass. The workers in the stores near my house are lazy as heck (I've had a few people actually refuse to do any trade-ins for whatever reason) and rude to boot. I got left standing at the counter by two employees today because someone came back from the food court with food. The stingyness on trade-ins is ridiculous too. You can give them a DVD in two halves and get $10 but HOW fuckING DARE YOU even think of asking them to trade-in a game that has a manual with a bent page or a disc that has an eyelash on it. One time I had some guy actually deny all my games because, "Gamecube games in general are always pretty beat up and they have no value anyway." Yeah denied because of what he though about them, not what they actually looked like.

I only visit the store if there's even a remote possiblity that it might help me out. Otherwise I steer clear. I hadn't been there in over a year.

I actually had a very nice experience there this weekend.

I had 2 used items, and the first cashier was very friendly and reminded me they have a Buy 3 get 1 free promo going on, and asked me if I wanted to take advantage of it. I forgot about it, so I picked out 2 more items for a better deal.

When I went back through the line the 2nd time, I had the Family Guy vol. 3 boxet, which was stickered "$9.99 after rebate." The 2nd cashier told me that the rebate was now expired, but he would give it to me for the rebate price. Since I also have their discount card (which mightve been a mistake on my part), I got it for $8.99 out the door.

fye is very hit or miss for me. They have PS2 launch titles at retail price, but sometimes they also have some rare used games for $14.99.

Lately it seems i only have good experiences with FYE. Ever since they closed down Suncoast, and the Suncoast employees went to FYE, things have turned for the better. The last time FYE took part in the "Bonus 45-50% store credit" deal, they only ran it as 20%. This time theyre doing it as 50. They offer up to $30 for games that Best Buy sells for $2 (PS3 for $40 FTW). With deals like that, its hard not to have a good experience.

I have had plenty of good experiences at FYE. Like going into EB, buying Motor Trend Lotus Challenge for XBox for $2.99 and walking a few stores over to FYE and getting $27 trade in credit or buying Malice for $5 new at EB and 5 minutes later getting $21 cash from FYE

The one and only time I went there was a good experience. When the Wii launched I had my pre-order ready back since May. Then the whole bundle fiasco started. I was going to buy 2 games either way, so I asked for Zelda and Trauma Center. The employees were looking for the games then realized that their Wii game section was stolen. To my luck, they just charged me for the Wii system. Very nice with a "don't-give-a-fuck" attitude. I liked it.

I have never had an issue with FYE. I just traded in some DVDs last week and a few came up .50 - 1.00 they bumped them up a couple of bucks for me. I would rather deal with FYE in my area than any EB/GS or the big boxes.

How does an entire game SECTION get stolen and NO ONE NOTICES? Most of the DM's around here for other chains would definitely be on a firing streak that month once they found out that happened.

Exploiting a couple high trade value games(at the time Geist got $14, Powerdrome Racing for PS2 got $14) to get a PStwo slim comes to mind as a great FYE experience of mine.

Couple THAT with the fact that I bought the games to trade in at TRU and GS for $10(not a great return, only did 2 copies) and $1.99(at that moment) and I only put out about $45-50 of my own money to get the credit to buy the PStwo.

THEN, on top of everything, they kept messing up my $30 rebate on the PStwo at Transworld corporate, saying it was ONLY for a $3 CD rebate, so they paid me in CASH after I dealt with a DM over this mixup.

Less than 2 weeks later, I received a postcard from Transworld which was actually my $30 rebate check after ONLY 5 fuckin months. So, double rebate for me= win win and a PStwo for FREE. I wasn't about to send the check/card back after dealing with people who I swear had eaten lead paint for breakfast, lunch and dinner since they were kids and just repeated the $3 CD rebate thing for all those months.

So, thanks FYE. :p

I had many bad experiences and now I just don't even bother.

basically, they've never taken a trade from me, always acted like I just ripped the game off from somewhere, or made up an excuse about how there are too many copies of a particular game-- then I go check, there aren't any copies there, and they still deny me.

Well, they denied a couple of my trades over the years, but those were only due to me not checking the damned things before leaving GS with them and taking the short walk down to FYE to trade them in. As I said in another FYE trade thread once, one copy of Powerdrome for PS2 looked like someone got the bottom of the disc wet, then laid it bottom side down in sawdust and let it DRY like that.

It looked friggin horrid and all they did at GS when I took it back after being denied was wipe it down with Windex and a paper towel, which made some minor surface scratches. I took the SAME copy back to FYE, they looked funny at me, but still took it since it was complete and in decent shape still.

I miss that game getting around $14ish in trade credit and a quick and easy $12 in cash.

To me it's just become too much of a chore. I can easily rip them off for DVDs using sales like BTGO on new or BFGO on used at the local ones but I swear that I can't even play the games if I want to trade them in at FYE.

What "gets my goat" is the fact that they act like they're reselling new games as used and so the standards are real high as a result. Their used games are high priced AND are usually in no better condition than what a good caretaker would trade in. Hell they don't even bother to pop the DVDs out of the case for me so why are games such a big deal?

I'm not kidding when I say that I honestly believe that I could trade in a DVD broken in half for full value but couldn't trade in a new game with original shrinkwrap. I once traded in a wrestling DVD that got messed up in shipping for the full price I originally paid for it. The tab that holds the DVD in place was broken and jagged so the DVD would just flop around inside the case and it looked like I had cut a sandwich on the non-label side.

i am not by an fye any more, but when i was they had the best trade in prices around... liek 18$ for the old 5$ CC games. Also when the sp came out i convinced them to sell it to me about a week before release... i know GS and EB were doing that (or at least in my area they were) but they were sold out so the guy at FYE called GS to make certain they had broken the release date and then he sold me one.

ive gone there once and one time only. i was denied trades because they had eb/gs stickers on them. i was told that they were 3rd generation used discs and fye would not take trades on them. so i asked to see the manager. Turned out he was the manager. then i became a smartass and asked him if i remove the stickers, do they turn into 1st or 2nd generation used. i was then told to leave. i have yet to step back into a fye store. i have found better deals at some b&m stores and/or online. screw them and their ridiculous used terminolgy

Yeah I noticed that too. It's landfill if it has an EB/GS sticker on it but if you remove the sticker it's considered formerly new.

FYE has been pretty good about DVD deals as of late, especially if you don't mind mail in rebates. They've had pretty decent anime sales as well and unlike Gamestop, their value card actually has "value" towards new games and movies. I'll probably never buy a CD from them though as those prices are jacked.

Honestly, I don't see what the big deal is about removing those GS stickers before going into FYE to trade those games in. And, I'm VERY glad FYE is as AR as they are about condition. I've never bought a game from them that I had to return because it looked like someone cleaned it with Brillo and cleanser, unlike GS's stores.

If you don't like their policies, don't trade there anymore or take better care of your stuff or take the five friggin seconds to remove the stickers from GS. Seriously, FYE isn't that bad, but you do have to put some sort of work into making sure your games don't look like you just bought them for the sake of flipping .

I don't go there very often, But they tend to give me more for trade ins. They gave me $10 in cash for ape escape 3, Wich is what I paid in the first place.

I went there once a long time ago. I saw an old VHS tape there with a bunch of clearance stickers on it for like $2. I was going to purchase it but when they rang it up it came up as $19. They claimed the sticker was from a sale a week ago and would not honor it. So I said ok, bye.

All their shit is overpriced anyways. Back when they were the Wall the cds were overpriced but they had the guaranteed for life no matter what policy. As long as it still had the blue sticker on the cover. Then they stopped honoring that soon after changed to FYE and now there is no point in going there.

I just bought a DVD at FYE and they were as about as helpful as minimum wage employees can get (I had to ask for help on finding the DVD as I didn't know what section it was in, I don't buy a lot of DVD's), and the register cashier was upbeat even though she was suffering from allergies. They have a 9.99 dvd sale going on right now so its not bad at all.

I did buy a dreamcast game that was covered in scratches a couple years back but they did take it back even though it took me a while to convince them to do so.

Overall their prices are too high but there are deals to be found in those stores if you just look, like the copy of pokemon pinball for the gba that i got for like, 14.99 when gamestop was charging 24.99 used for the game. It would be nice if GS employees took the same precautions as FYE employees when trading in stuff! Its clear that people exploit gamestop by trading in non working games so you have to check everything carefully when buying.

The only time I ever tried buying anything at FYE was a used Document Of Metal Gear Solid for PS2. Even though I was the only one in the store, it still took 5 minutes to find someone to ring me up. The guy that helped me looked like I just woke him from his afternoon nap too. As soon as I left the store with the game though, I opened it up and saw that there was a huge crack thru the center of the dvd. Got my money back but I'm never shopping at that dump again.

I honestly don't know how that store manages to stay in business. Prices are shit, employees are lazy, and nobody else is ever in there.

i don't think i've bought anything ever from FYE, Camelot, Suncoast, Sam Goody, Media Play, Tower or any of those other "boutique" media stores..

i remember seeing CD's at those kinds of place for $18.99 when you can get the same thing at BB or Walmart for $12.99.

See, I never usually buy my CDs at major retail outlets, unless they're on sale for $9.99 or UNDER. Most of the places I buy CDs from anymore are akin to the mom n pop type game shops I hit ALOT anymore. The places charge me maybe $2-4 per CD, most are in great shape and they guarantee them for LIFE, unlike most retail places anymore.

If you buy something and don't open it within 2 weeks of buying it and something is wrong with it, then really you have no one to blame but yourself. Like I should talk though, as I still have my copy of the Suffering:Ties That Bind game that I bought with the old, old, old, old BB $10 off ANY game($29.99 or over)coupon and it's STILL sealed 2 years after I bought it. :whistle2:X

Either way, you should never be in too much of a hurry that you can't take 5 seconds to check used stuff you buy thoroughly, as I know first hand how much of a pita it is to get ALL the way home and find that the register monkey didn't put xyz game in the game case and I have to go back and try to convince them I didn't just take it out and I'm trying to scam them for another copy.

A 5 second quick check of games you're gonna trade in or shit ya buy saves SO MUCH time n grief.

I was in mine last night and 12 of their top 20 CDs were 19.99 or higher. Plus if you want a new CD on the day it comes out you have to pre-order or wait for the 2nd shipment. I honestly don't know how they stay in business.

My FYE was fine until they closed. I got my Ranma 1/2 season set used from them for $49 buck and it was MINT! :D The used Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi Vol. 4 I got from them online was in OUTSTANDING condition too.

They are a lot better about accepting only discs in good condition than EB/GS.

The prices were high, but so was trade-in value. I traded maybe 2 or 3 times with no hassle.
Hmmm how long ago was that? I was looking for a cheap copy of one of those DK bongo games.
On Friday. :)

I had never been to a FYE before this week. I posted in a different thread...

OK so I took the dive. Called and found out that my location was giving the extra 45% trade in as well as clearing out all of their Video Game stuff (10% off systems and 30% off everything else). I traded in a bag of DVD's and a bag of CD's. Got $540 in credit.

I got....

XBOX 360 Premium ( it was 10% off) $359.99

Extra 360 Wireless controller 30% off
controller Charge kit 30% off

Rainbow 6 Vegas (used $29.99 + 30% off)
Tomb Raider (new $19.00 + 30% off)
Viva Pinata (New $29.99 + 30% off)
Xbox Live arcade (new $19.99 + 30% off)

Got it all with the credit.
==========================

Also just got ...

Gear of War,
Tiger Woods 07
Condemned
Kameo
Table Tennis

All from Goozex with points I have been saving for when I got a 360. So I guess I have a good starter 360 set up.

THANK YOU ALL OF MAKING ME AWARE OF THIS DEAL

I don't shop there often. Used dvd prices are crazy expensive and they seem to never have deals on the used anime. I did manage to find Sailor Moon S and Super S boxsets for $49.99 there though.

My local FYE's not bad. Most of their prices are right down the middle. Not too bad, not too good. Most of their stuff is priced so that you don't feel like you're getting ripped off, but you don't feel like you're getting a good deal, either.

Most recently, however, lots of stuff in the store has stickers with lower sale prices. I don't know if that's because they're going out of business or what. I finally got The Terminator on DVD last week for less than 10 bucks. Also, most of their music DVD section was cleaned out. But this might also be a work in progress for reorganization.

There's this one kind of older middle aged guy there who's very cool. When I picked up a hentai DVD and an Yngwie Malmsteen CD, he didn't ask me for my ID for the hentai and instead we talked a little about Yngwie. I got him again when I got the Terminator DVD, and he said "you'll be back" like Arnold. It was cheesy but funny.

Ive got two FYEs (one is a converted Wherehouse Music)... the location in the mall sucks...I called them about the brown bag special and was met with and answer that indicated to him that I wanted to set a flaming brown bag of dog poo in thier store... I call the other and of course they had them... you get idiots in every store... I go there when they have crazy deals, like the curren t 9.99 AR box sets in which Ive paid for by using older versions of the movies I currently had from the sets, they have had clearance cds for 10 cents, and this trade in deal is pretty good right now

You want to know how clueless store workers have become...
Just last week I wanted to return a game into GS that I hadnt opened (it was from online)... I call and was told they dont do that. I call the 800 number and am told of course you can return them in stores and gave them my story, and the stores phone number when I was asked for it. It just frustrates me that people continue to get more stupid every year they might have a sense of whats going on in their tightly enclosed world around them, but things like news and history are foreign to them.
To the poster who mentioned Gamestop,
I'd have to purchase bongos separately right?
I actually saw DK Jungle Beat new with bongos for $9.99 at EB last week,.

I gave FYE one last shot when I saw a lot of marked down games at the B3G1 sale. Some guy rang them up altogether and gave me the cheapest ones free. I ended up giving the store $5 extra for no reason. After all my disgust with FYE in the past I just wanted to return the whole thing. Stupid as I am I let the girl talk me into using that $5 towards the Backstage Pass which I only ended up paying $9 for altogether so not too bad. Well she voided the first transaction instead of just returning and re-ringing along with the Pass. I get a call from my bank and in the end my account was overdrafted by $98 all because of laziness. I ended up returning everything (except the non-refundable backstage pass) which cost me $23 in the end.

You can tell me about how Gamestop sells used games as new or how someone at Gamecrazy took your Suikoden or even that someone at Sears slapped you with a feces-covered hand and it doesn't compare to anything I've ever gone through at FYE. They're not snobs but they act like everything is such an imposition.

And people @ Kmart(who you have to practically drag to the cases to get ONE game out sometimes) and other retail outlets aren't lazy about their jobs?

Since I joined CAG, I've learned how to exploit stores for my own good use:

Kmart: cheap games to add to my backlog and on occasion cheap games to flip

GS: cheap games to flip, penny guides(on a rare occasion anymore) and the RARE sale they have anymore that's halfway decent

TRU: cheap games, penny guides

BB: super cheap games at times(BB clearance this year), penny guides, cheap DVDs at times.

CC: clearance games and some cheap DVDs at times.

FYE: higher than usual trade values on items, many cheap games(if you LOOK hard enough) and the best part, they don't take games in that look like someone ran outta toilet paper and used both sides of the discs, the case inserts and manuals as replacement TP only AFTER using the discs and other game items on rough pavement for whatever purpose.

Mind you, FYE's sale prices on CDs and other items really suck if you're buying new from them, but if you wait for a deal, you can get CDs, DVDs and games from them for a decent enough price.

I'd rather pay $5 at Gamestop for a game that looks like shit but that I can exchange for a better looking one of the same game in the future than $15 for the same game at FYE already in good condition.

i just found a mint and complete Baldur's GAte Dark Alliance 2 for $15!!! i was stunned to find it and just stood there with the game in my hand for a while...haha PM me if anyone has the first one non GH

If by the future, you mean GS's lovely meager 7 day return policy, then so be it, but I'd rather pay a little more for a game that won't look like a kid sneezed on it then put it snot side down in breadcrumbs and let it dry like that.

But, maybe that's just me......

It's probably extremely YMMV but at all the stores around me I can switch a non-complete game for a complete one if they get it down the line by just showing them my receipt.
