Have you ever grown a beard?

So... Dingleberry, that's what happened to "that guy" who had facial hair in middle school.

I certainly can't grow a beard like that, but I can grow a pretty solid (non-patchy) beard and do so from time to time. I change my facial hair style all the time though pending on what idea pops in my head when I'm shaving.

I rarely let it grow for long though. I used to not shave during the NHL play-offs, but I guess that only works if you're on the actual team?
Agreed 100%. If I were black, that is exactly what I'd aspire to have in life. The Baron Davis beard.
I'm not sure of your background, but other cool beards can be had. I think Danny Masterson has a pretty boss beard.

Yeah, those hockey players can grow some nice beards during the playoffs.

I have always wanted a badass beard. I could do it, but it takes a long time. I'm only 18 so hopefully this shit speeds up. I got full facial hair but I wanna mess around with it.

After two days of thread responses, much deliberation, and lots of growing, I decided to take a candid picture of my progress.
Holy fucking shit, Dingleberry. With that tattoo, you officially became my hero. (To give some perspective on how awesome I think that tattoo is: I looked at it for a full thirty seconds or so before I even realized that a dude's junk was less than three inches away from where I was staring.) I'm into chemistry, though, so I probably have a greater appreciation than most.

Anyway, I've pretty much had every type of facial hair style at one point or another: mustache, Fu Manchu, goatee, soul patch, full beard, and so forth. Right now I have a full beard that is just outside the boundary of "heavy stubble". I usually grow facial hair in cycles: I'll go weeks without shaving, then shave it all off and start over. Sometimes I'll just trim it a little, but I change it up pretty often, mostly because I'm too lazy to bother with regular shaving.

This brings me to a social experiment that I've always wanted to try:

THE GREAT FACIAL HAIR SOCIAL EXPERIMENT

(1) Grow a full beard of approximately 1" in length, all around.
(2) Over the course of week (e.g., the five weekdays that I have regular contact with people at school), steadily shave off certain parts of said beard.
(2a) MONDAY: Full beard.
(2b) TUESDAY: Scraggly goatee with mutton chops.
(2c) WEDNESDAY: Cleaned-up goatee or Fu Manchu.
(2d) THURSDAY: Creepy-guy-who-owns-a-van mustache.
(2e) FRIDAY: Hitler.
(3) Observe reactions of friends, co-workers, professors, etc. throughout the week and record these observations.
(4) ???
(5) Profit.

This is exactly the kind of thing I would do for my own personal entertainment, and as soon as there comes a time that I'm sure I'll be able to pull it off for an entire week, I probably will.

I can only get a thick chin and moustache, but is somewhat bare when trying to connect it on the sides. I might drop the chin and go with the Swerengen/Bullock Deadwood look.

I kinda stopped shaving. Can't stand the itching for days after. I use a pair of clippers and get it down to stubble.

I've got a goatee and am currently working on a longer set of sideburns. The 'stache never works for me, nor does the full beard deal.

As far as celebrities with a neck beard, I'm surprised Mr Kyle Orton has not been thrown into the mix.

I started trimming & growing my chinstrap since early December and I quite like it, though I just shaved it the other day so it's pretty much a chinstrap with a long goatee, much like Jim Kuback from Mission Hill.

I absolutely cannot grow an actual beard though, so I make the best of what I can do.

Damn sweet beard Dingleberry. And sweet periodic table tatt.

I usually have a beard. I shave my neck every couple days and trim it down every week or two. I've never had anything approaching Dingle's length. It starts getting really itchy if I leave it go for a month without trimming.

When I shave it I often leave the porn stache for a bit, but I've never had the balls to leave it beyond just goofing around the house. I guess I'm not a mustache guy.

I participated in National November 'Grow a Beard' month and I was fairly happy with my progress so I kept it going. For awhile I looked a lot like Daniel Day Lewis, it was awesome.

I've got a beard right now that looks almost like Guillermo del Toro's. I just got too lazy to shave anymore but when summer hits, I'll probably have to shave it unless I want to be sweating all the time.

I pretty much always rock a beard, but nothing quite as epic as dingleberry's. And I must say I love that tattoo also.

It's good to see a topic that has this much beard support.
