Imports Links: Exclusive Titles and Suggestions:
Anybody interested in imports, EzyDVD is doing a 2 for 50 (or 25 a pop) sale for Universal titles.

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/promo.zml?pid=647&ddat=1&dsal=1&dper=1

Import exclusive titles include

Rambo 1-3
The Holiday
Total Recall

And there is also non-combo versions of

Children Of Men
Smokin' Aces
American Werewolf In London
Miami Vice

for you combo haters.

The really nice thing is that the AUD is weaker than the US dollar. So I was able to grab Rambo: First Blood for only 27.23 AUD (US $22.39)
Thanks... will I have to actually have the hd-dvd drive with me, or as long as I have the receipt, it'll be fine? I've already cut the UPC out and filled out the rebate form so I can drop it in the mail tomorrow... just need to know whether I should wait on that or not. (Dropping the form in the mail so I still have the UPC)

Corporate has sent out the email, it's true... even if a manager puts up a fight, call 1-888-bestbuy and they will tell you to have the manager call and they will clear it... might be a little annoying but worth 30 mins of your time IMO.

Heh, I just decied to call back, nothing to do so might as well. The guy on the line said that they should not be denying the deal anymore. He said if they gave me any problem, just tell them to call the 1800 number with my case number.

Very nice, as I'm liking Heroes and King kong in HD so far. I might only have a 28" monitor to watch them on, but god damn 1080P is still impressive.
Thanks... will I have to actually have the hd-dvd drive with me, or as long as I have the receipt, it'll be fine?
The guy I talk to said that I only needed to receipt.

No need to bring back the HD DVD player, just your receipt will be needed.

Ok this is funny I just called 1-888-bestbuy and was told and I quote you cant do two promos so its ether one or the other, she was going to do it online for me but a supervisor told her this, so she said.

Maybe someone who already did the deal should post the case number and share...I'm sure that its just some misinformed employees who haven't gotten the memo, give it a day or so and it should be widely known in stores.

I ordered this on Saturday night via in-store pickup since I know I couldn't get there until this weekend to pick it up. I'm hoping if this is true that I will still be able to take part in the extra 2 and they don't try to screw me over since it wasn't on my original order. I'm hoping that I don't even have problems with the Hero set getting marked down to nothing when I go to pick up.

I'm really hoping that they still have Heroes and the drives when I go and I will just buy new in store and then cancel the in-store pickup order and save myself any trouble.

On a side note, if I am allowed to get the extra two movies I'm thinking of getting 300 and something else. What should be my something else? I bought Transformers at Target for the special case, and I'd kinda like to keep that, but does the HD DVD add a lot of extras that are worth taking back the standard edition DVD of Transformers to Target and losing the special case? I also don't want to duplicate anything I could possibly get in the mail in offer as well.

I recommend Batman Begins, V For Vendetta, The Departed, Shooter, Fast & The Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious.

As for TransformersI don't really care about extras but Transformers on HD DVD looks phenomenal...so why not get the HD DVD and keep the Target transforming case just for fun?

Anyway, here's the extras for the HD DVD:
The HD DVD is presented in 1080p High Definition with English, French and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus and English, English SDH+, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese subtitles. In addition to the above features that will be presented in high definition, the TRANSFORMERS HD DVD will also offer the following exclusive content:

Yep... after being on hold for like 30 minutes... they confirmed the deal with me, and that I should have received the two free. She apologized like five times... you woulda thought that the manager pimp slapped me or something... So I need to take in my receipt tomorrow and request the two free... and if they deny me, I need to have them call corporate in which they will confirm the deal. I did not receive a case code or anything though.

I went to my Best Buy tonight and they were out of Heroes, so I didn't even bother asking for the deal. I'll go again tomorrow, in hopes that they get more in with the Tuesday shipments.

i got a case number, but the sad thing is my closest best buy don't have this anymore.:(

i order it online. and they told me this only works in store.

Well, I can kinda confirm the 2 free dvds instore...

The hereos promo popped up on the screen...blah blah enter...Then she she rings up the other two hd dvds...no discount or promo. I explain to her the deal in the ad, manger comes over and we go back and forth. Eventually she agrees and manually overrides them as free.

Heres where it becomes strange...

After the override from the manager, the girl continues the checkout and some how "buy hd dvd player get 2 hd dvds free" or something along those lines pops up just like the hereos promo...Strange, I know. Anyway, this may work in store now, but id leave it at ymmv still. That promo some how popped up though so there is hope CAGs!

Just got back from colma, was directed to returns. The said I was the first to come about this, and they just went through the ad agin without checking the Email or calling the coperate. Though this time they said that I should qualify no problem. After they figured out how to apply the promo, I came out with 300 and Hot fuzz. Forgot to try the 300 deal though, dammit...

What 300 deal?

hopefully this news will get widespead because I couldn't even get the two hd dvds because they were out of heroes but got a raincheck instead, and until then Im keeping everything nice and sealed, in case I want to get a refund.

I called the 800 bestbuy number and talked to a guy named Peter. He said they should be honoring it and he gave me a case number. I went to the store with my receipt and showed them my case number since they were still trying to deny me the deal. They didn't even bother to call and just gave me the 2 free HD DVDs. I got Transformers and The Departed. Thanks for the heads up DestroVega.

can someone please just remind me.

why we should get the 2 free hddvd deal. thanks.

i just want to know it, in case if i need to argue with them. thanks.

Its on the ad, where they have the Toshiba HD DVD player listed. It says get 2 Free HD DVD's with any HD DVD player purchase.

Guys, call best buy! this really works. If anyone is waiting go tommorow cause they're supposed to send out e-mails letting stores know.

Man, the power of cheap asses is scary.

If you have a copy of the ad page 20 says that ANY HD DVD player purchase gets you two free HD DVDs. The fine print at the bottom only mentions that they must be $34.99 or less and that they have to be on the same receipt as the player. There is no mention that you have to buy the Toshiba players they are listed with.

Cheap Asses UNITE!

Yea... the manager who looked at that page at my store was all like, "uhh... I think these are the ones in the box and that this is a typo." Then she's like, "I think this only applies to this DVD player... I cant honor it."

Man I hope I get to talk to her tomorrow...

Because page 20 of the add says you get 2 free hddvd movies valued below 34.99 or below. Just make sure you tell them it is not the 2 that are included in the toshiba HDDVD player shown below that because if it was that then why would there be a price associated with the movies if they are already in the box. Hence if you buy that dvd player you get 9 movies (5 after MiR, 2 free in the box and 2 free 34.99 and below) or get the Xbox 360 addon and get 5 after MiR, 2 free if under 34.99 and the first season of heros.

PS on hold with best buy support because my bestbuy never had any players before the ad hit the paper to begin with and am getting nowhere after 1 hour and being transfered 3 times. :bomb:

Now should I call about this now since I won't be going until Saturday to pick it up? I just don't want them to go messing around with my online order. Do they ask you any information about your order/purchase when you call like your receipt number, or do they just assign you a case # to give to the store?
I already mentioned it a couple pages back.

It basically is an old deal that you get 300 for free if you get a 360 HD-DVD drive. While the deal is 2 months old, there still is a page for it online.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=category&id=pcmcat128600050027

You can try, but would probably get shot down.
in the details page, it says excludes prior purchases and you can't double dip on this deal. I doubt it will work, but it never hurts to try

i want in on the best buy deal... but it says out of stock for heroes. What are the chances of them restocking? I mean, the buy.com deal is quite tempting since its 168.99 with google checkout - 1.89 for fatcash from fat wallet. Plus theres no tax so its looking at it as either saving 25 dollars or getting 2 hd dvds. to me thats a pretty similar deal so im pretty sure ill be jumping on the buy.com deal once im out of the shower.

thanks guys, wish me luck.

also does the 10% off work on this hddvd player??

I'd say, don't get too greedy...

call your stores individually. My nearest one claimed out of stock but I went in and they had some.

Also, all cases are handled with the reciept and a case number.

so i called corprate as well and they said my BB had to honor the deal so i went straight to customer service told them i called corparte about the deal and i picked out transformers and 300 free

they didnt ask any questions just said ok go pick out ur free movies

Well holy crap...
Heroes + 2 Movies + 5 more movies from the online deal... Well thats it, i am broken. I shall join the dark side and get the HD DVD player... impossible to pass up such an amazing deal.

Two questions: How reliable are the in-store BB stock listings online?....and for anybody that is using this player with a 1080i TV through component cables, how much better is the picture than standard DVDs. Thanks!
the picture is a huge improvement over dvd..in the end it really depends on the movie but to me there is just no comparison
Hey Guyver, thanks for the response. What TV and resolution are you using?

guys i have a prob with my hd add on, my hd movies play fine but regular movies look like crap with this motion blur deal going on & it doesnt do that on my ps3 so i was wandering if theres a setting issue or my hd add is messed up so please help me out here....thanks
Hey Guyver, thanks for the response. What TV and resolution are you using?
Well when the add on first came out i was using a 37 in lcd with a regular 360 via component. I was absolute floored by the quality back then and still am. I would mostly use 1080i.

I then moved on to an elite 360 via hdmi and the difference was not very noticeable.

Im now using a 1080p 42in lcd with the elite. Addon looks great!

end of story.. regardless of connection, it will look great!

I just got mine and hooked it up to my "old school" Philips HDTV 30" CRT 1080i via component. It looks simply amazing. I can tell a huge improvement over 480p DVD. However, my girlfriend can't tell any difference, but I don't think she knows what to look for.

Just called corporate about the 2 free HD DVDs and they gave me a case number.

I will be heading towards BB today and snagging my free shizzles!

This is the post over at AVS that convinced me that there was a really noticeable difference.

King Kong 480p upconverted SD DVD and 1080i HD DVD

Edit: I just noticed that you have a 30" CRT HDTV from Philips. Me too. But I use an HDMI to DVI cable with my HD-A2 player. I've been using simple RCA stereo cables for the sound since I don't have my receiver hooked up yet. Anyway, do you notice overscan on your set? On mine, the picture is shifted to the left a little bit.

i tried to buy an a-3 today but i couldn't get the two extra free movies

first they said i had to buy the $399 HD DVD player, i pointed out the any part

then they said well its the two movies in the box, i pointed out the any 34.99 and below

50 minutes later and 2 managers nothing

at least i was late to the office by 10 minutes

Went in today... they STILL denied me the deal... even after they called Customer Relations (which apparently they told them that the deal did NOT apply to the 360 one)...

I am dumbfounded considering I was told over the phone last night that the deal did apply...

Call up the Best Buy number, get a case number and head back with your receipt after work to get your 2 extra movies. Don't give up just yet.

I just went in this morning when they opened, grabbed all the stuff, hd-dvd drive, heroes s1, transformers, and the departed. Went to the register rang everything up and told the guy that there is an additional 2 free hd-dvds of my choice. I had to pull up the ad and then the guy called over the manager to see if he could do this. After them checking over their email, and looking over the ad repeatedly and me explaninig them the ad over and over they rang everything up and i got everything for 194$ out the door.

Thanks again CAG! With last weeks awesome deal on the Yamaha sound projector and this weeks 360 hd-dvd drive deal i'm dead broke. No purchases until black friday. Atleast i gotta pretty good set up going for home theater!

It was funny both of the workers who helped me out, were like damn that is a good deal and they were thinking about picking it up. Haha.
how can someone not notice the difference...
It was one of the first comparison screen caps shown in that thread. They were mostly just 1080 caps, so it wasn't really clear until that post came up.
