I guess my TV is an older model because It doesn't have DVI, VGA, or HDMI (though I wish it did, but for $350 at the time, I can't complain.) It has 2 component inputs, so I typically run everything throuhg a component switcher to juggle my 360, PS2, Wii, and HDDVR cablebox. In 1080i, I typically get some overscan, but can sometimes be controlled, depending on the console. 480p is just fine.

I've told myself that since I'm in an apartment now, I'd wait until my current HDTV dies before I get a bigger and better.

It's not that she doesn't notice the difference, it's that she refuses to acknowledge the difference. She watches a movie because of the story and plot. I watch it for that too, but I am an A/V freak and if something can look better, it needs to look better or I'm not content. She was against me getting the add on, no matter what kind of deal I have. She wasn't the least bit impressed that I spent a total of $30 on 11 HD DVDs over the past week. Give it time...

damn, everything I wanted came in stock online but obviously no sale prices... ended up dropping 340 dollars for hd addon, heroes, transformers, and knocked up. Obviously Ill price match it when I do the in store pick up thing... any chances of getting shot down by the price match or shouldnt that matter?
 
btw anyone here buying the hdaddon to use on your computer and not the 360? I know thats what i did since I sold my 360 long ago. This should look nice on my 37" olevia...

Shouldn't matter...they'll either cancel the online transaction and ring you up there on the spot, or do the online transaction, then return it and redo it with the discounts.

ive used it both with and without 360...

if your specs are up to it and you have your video out resolutions configured correctly, you should be ok.
 
It amazes me how idiotic best buy employee's really are, especially managers. I lost count of how many times I got.

"It's only for the toshiba" "It's 399$ or above" "the 2 dvd's come in the box" "It doesnt count for the xbox"

Like, they are so on the defensive that they don't read what it actually says. I had to repeat the "any" part of the add countless times. Sheesh.

Did you get the 2 HD DVD's in the end?
 
So I went back with me reciept...

Let's list the excuses:

1. THe register won't ringup 2 offers at once....

2. Those DVD's come in the box of that specific player...

when I tell them it's ALL players...

3. Not the Xbox one, because you have to hook it up to the Xbox...

When I should them the Xbox uses the words "HD DVD Player" and the other ad says "All HD DVD Players", I just get "we're not going to do that" and that the people on the customer service line don't know how the registers work and will say anything.

So I call them on my cell phone...5 minutes, the guy on the phone says "yep, they should honor that, let me take to the manager in charge!" I hand him *my* cell phone and after 5 minutes of "uh-huh's" and giving them his employee number, he hands me back the phone and says "go pick out your dvd's"....success!

i went back on my lunch break to a different best buy and they let me have it

but the manager told the guy at the desk that this is the only person going to do it for and to not let anyone else have it after me

oh well

guy was trying to tell me a-3 was 1080p too which is false, i asked him for an a-2 which i saw was in stock online and couldn't find and he's like why not just get the a-3 its 1080p

anyway

a-3 + bourne identity + 300 + return to house on haunted hill + shooter for $320, not too bad

i never see any of the re released non combo disks, and didn't see full metal jacket today, but all the other kubrick movies were out

did chuck and larry always have that $7 rebate.. may order at fye but their budget shipping sucks for me...

can someone remind what to do with the rebate forms..whats the advantage to that virtual credit card thing they offer
 
Ok good news fellow cags, I called the 1-888-bestbuy number this morning and received a case number for the two free dvd's featured in the sunday ad and was told to go back to the bestbuy where I purchased the hd dvd drive from and speak with the manager or LOD and if I have any problems to give them my case number and ask them to call 1-888-bestbuy. Everything what out great except the team lead still was clueless on what was going on and tried to deny my deal except the manager agreed with me and she walked away disgusted. This was at the lakewood store by the was so if you purchased this deal from them go do it now, they are aware of the memo. By the way I got dune and transformers, because they did not have knocked up today but thats ok, I will buy that movie.

CAG ITDEFX had the same issue, he called the Best Buy number and they told him that they will send him a free $100 giftcard so that he can get Heroes when it comes back in stock, and in the meantime he got his 2 free HD DVD's.

id imagine im fine.... I have a 6000+ amd proc, 4gb ram, x1950xt graphics card with an m2n-e mobo. I assume I could just run a coaxial cable from spdif to my theater system for digital audio and the dvi to hdmi cable for my vid card and itll work smoothly?

i just got back from BB & the guy took 45 mins to give me my movies cause he didnt want to call BB corp even though i had a case number & the guy who helped me his case number ID as well so after yellin for several mins the dumbass finally broke down to call then after he was proven wrong he kissed my ass saying he was sorry for the mishap & the time i lost being there,i couldve been a dick to him but i wanted to be the bigger person & so i walked out with 300 & transformers


p.s......does anyone have TMNT for hd i wanted to know if it was worth getting?

I called the best office and was told that the extra 2 movies may not be honored in the store. The person said she may not be able to help me. So I asked if there was someone who could help. I was put on hold for a while and when she came back I was told that if I order it over the phone I would get the offer and all for $195.06...........YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

Did you call the 1-888 number? I'm about to call because I just called the BB I was going to go get this from and the girl told me that the only extra DVDs I'd get were the ones from the rebate, so I'm going to try the 1-888 number next.
 
You know, I was really ready to drop this whole ordeal. I wish BB would make up their mind 100 percent on this matter so I can move on.

I just got off the phone with a nice representative from 1 888 number and she informed me that there's been no word given from corporate to allow customers to get both Heroes and the two HD movies. She checked all company emails, and said that that hasn't happened. She was actually floored to learn that some of her fellow co workers were saying the exact opposite as to what they were told. She said first thing this morning her boss told everyone that it is one or the other, and that's the final decision. I would just drop this, but I have to go anyway (despite the nearest BB being over an hour away) because the second disc of my Heroes disc has a HUGE gash in it.

Ok, so here's my input on the whole matter.

I called the 1-888-Best-Buy number and the person I spoke with okay-ed it and gave me a case number and speicially told me, "If you have any problems tell the person that was working there to call corporate and give the case number."

I went ahead and went to BB and they denied me WITH the case number. They refused to call them and would not honor the ad. I asked to speak to another manager (higher-up) and the manager heard my story and from his facial expressions, "gave up."

He said to the worker, "Just give it to him..".

This whole thing is really YMMV because some managers will approve it and some will not.

Here's the fun part.. I went to ANOTHER BB to try and do it AGAIN lol, after I got my 2 free. I gave them my whole story and they said they got a notice about a correction in the ad from corporate and that no matter what they are not allowed to honor the ad.

They told me that other BBs might not have gotten the notice so I can go check there, but since they got the ad directly from corporate, they cannot honor it.
YMMV fellow CAGs :(..
 
just lettin you guys know when you get the case number for the dvds make sure you also get the person's case number ID who helped you out on the phone that helps out alot

Awesome deal! I still like the +2 HDDVDS if you are able to snag it, even though it's a lot to go through for them.
 
Here's a huge question I have... why the fuck! do Best Buy managers act like such jerks and don't want to honor the AD even when corporate tells them to... it's not like they have to buy the 2 movies for you out of their pocket... jesus.

makes no sense.
 
Does anyone else feel scared about getting the Hd-dvd played maybe cause a new version is on its way it would seem with all these deals.

Just went by the Columbia MD BB again.

They have instructions from corporate that this is suppose to be included.

It is called "The Retail Insider." On the right side there is a specific statement -"The promotion for the 2 free HD-DVD movies INCLUDES the Xbox 360 HD-DVD Drive." The article makes the point of saying that if the customer gets an XBOX 360 HD DVD Drive, they will get the Heroes, + 2 movies, + the 5 maili-in movies. The article also points out the fact that if they get the Toshiba pictured in the ad, it is actually 9 DVD's free.

If retail does not give this to you, ask to see their "Insiders Edge." They will be surprised you asked, but should be able to find it and show it to you.

This is not a mangers discretion.

I think I'm going to go the Amazon route. My local BestBuy is notorious for being hard a$$es about these deals that should work, and in the past they have been known to say that they have pulled the product I ordered for pick up, I get there and it's not there or was never pulled.

I'll be giving up 2 possible free movies, but at least I know I won't have to go through the aggravation.

For me, the Amazon deal was the better choice since I already had the $25 gift certificate. The closest BB with it in stock is about an hour drive each way. So when I factor in the gas, time spent, Tax added on, and the possible hassle of maybe or maybe not getting the two free extras, it just made more sense to grab it through Amazon for $154.99 shipped.
 
Wow, what a clusterfuck. People are getting 2 completely opposite stories...here's mine:

-Called the 1888 number, asked if I could get the 2 HD DVDs free when I buy the 360 HD DVD player. She first says, "no, because the 360 addon is a video game accessory, not an HD DVD player." After kindly disagreeing, she says, "well the 2 free HD DVDs are just with Toshiba players, because they are packaged in with the player." I again kindly disagree, asking her to look at the ad. She does, and says again, "OK, yeah, this won't work, because the 360 HD addon has a different deal with Heroes. We've sent out a memo to all the stores saying it's not to be accepted. But it depends on the manager, so you can try."

-Go to my nearest BB, and they had a sign printed out next to the 360 HD DVD players saying sorry for the confusion with the ad, they won't be honoring it. So I just gave up there, figuring it's obviously been shot down by corporate.

Now I come back here and read all these stories of people being told by people at the 1888 # that it's SUPPOSED to work with the 2 free. Aaaarghh! :bomb:

If I knew I could get somebody to approve this at the 1888 #, I'd do it, but damn how frustrating to hear all these conflicting stories.
 
Just got back from my BB in Murrieta, CA (fires are burning pretty close) and was at FIRST shotdown. Made a call to customer support (make sure it is customer support and not another area), went back in and was out w/my 360 HD-DVD, Heroes, and 2 other HD-DVD's(+mail in rebate for 5 HD_DVDs).
Customer service told me to tell the manager to check their e-mail. At first the manager was trying to tell me it was a mistake in the ad, but when I told him about the call and the e-mail, he checked and confirmed. This guy was actually cool about it. Keep trying!

I called the number and just received my order confirmation number in my e-mail. Got the drive (with King Kong), Heroes, Mission Impossible, and MI: 3, not to mention the 5 free by mail-in-rebate.

Told them I had issues with ordering through the website. Then pointed out the deal for the free Heroes, then the 2 free on page 20. By being polite, but firm I was able to get the deal after being put on hold twice.

The lady tried telling me that it was in-store only, I asked where it said that, she said ok we can do it after coming back from being on hold. Then she tried telling me the two free were only with Toshiba purchase, but I pointed out it said ANY.

My roommate did it the same way and had no issues.
