The time has come to bid our preferred format farewell. An unfortunate but obvious conclusion to the HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray battle is that one of them would have to get buried in the end. I was happy to see many dual-format owners say that they preferred HD DVD, and even now the format offers some features that Blu-Ray is still catching up with.

Although the manufacturing of new players has come to a close, Toshiba will continue to support and service current players for the next several years.

The original HD DVD thread can still be found here and does have some helpful information here and there and was quite useful during the format's life. However, as it approached the 4500 post mark, it's clear that this is as good a time as any to start fresh.

Amazon.com order still in place, estimated delivery date on Thursday, I have Prime 2 day shipping so they would need to ship today to make that ETA. I'll keep you guys posted whether it ships or cancels or stays there.

Actually, I am pretty interested to know whether or not this gets shipped out.
Maybe they did print a limited number discs.

I want to see it. :(

It will probably hit Blu-Ray when "Kung-Fu Panda" gets released on DVD & Blu-Ray this fall.

Well atleast it exsists...acording to eBay:

EDIT: This guy claims his Target has it instock:
I just called Target in Middletown, NY. I spoke to a guy in electronics - he said they have 3 versions: regular DVD, 2 disc edition DVD and a HD DVD. I asked if he was sure that is was HD DVD (red case etc.) he said yes... well, I will believe it when I see it - I will stop on the way home. If it is indeed true I will pick up extra copies and sell them on E-Bay for $200 each! :D
I'm kidding of course...
But i will pick up extra ones if they do have it - I'll post tomorrow if I get lucky.

Anyway, here's the number and address to Target in Middletown:

Middletown, NY 10941

i hit up fye, suncoast, best buy, and walmart

nothing

guess i'll go stop by target, circuit city is right next to it so i'll check there too

It seems that some stores got them in and were told to send the movie back. Somehow I don't see amazon breaking that pattern and shipping the movies if they receive them.

So, I went to my local used book store to look for the next book I need for class... They didn't have it, but they did have their HD-DVD selection on clearance for $5.95. I bought literally everything I didn't already have whether I wanted to see it or not.

I picked up Balls of Fury, The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King, The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, F & F: Tokyo Drift, Next, and Tremors.

Combined with these, I got five movies from highdefdigest, two more from my deep discount order, and No Country for Old Men on Blu-ray will be here any minute from UPS. 17 movies in one day is a new record.

From AVS:

I just called my Hollywood Video and the manager (who has been holding hddvd's for me and giving me the heads up on when they receive new ones) informed me that they had 1 copy of Bee Movie on HDDVD today which has already been rented out. I asked again to confirm that it was infact an "HDDVD" and he said yes. He also noted that they would not be selling this title or Michael Clayton in the current HDDVD liquidation sale.

Hehe, that would a great title to "lose".

If there are any copies of Bee Movie in the wild, I imagine that this is going to be Robocop Blu-Ray (before the re-release after the recall) all over again.
What happened with Robocop and Blu-Ray? I never heard of anything about that
There was an original edition put out by Sony that was cancelled last minute. The version on BD now is different, uses a different master, the color is off. I really want the original.
A few are out there though.

Same for Commando.
What happened with Robocop and Blu-Ray? I never heard of anything about that
Yeah, Dallow is right.

They were set to release it but canceled it days before release. Copies were recalled and only a very small amount of copies made it out into the wild. A good amount were review copies.

Only days before its scheduled Blu-ray debut on August 15 2006, 'RoboCop' has been unceremoniously yanked from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment upcoming release slate, the studio has announced.

After MGM surprised the industry earlier this year by shifting the distribution of all its home video titles from Sony to Fox Home Entertainment, Sony announced it would still release all MGM titles that the studio had originally scheduled for Blu-ray, including 'The Terminator,' 'The Last Waltz' and 'Species,' which hit stores last month, as well as 'RoboCop.'

However, Sony released this short statement earlier today announcing that 'RoboCop' would not make it to stores after all.

"Due to the recent changes within MGM Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will no longer be distributing 'RoboCop' on Blu-ray disc. Therefore, at this time it will not be made available to consumers."

Is there only 9 2 Disc HD-DVD movies out there?? All I can find is

Clerks II
MI:3
Flags of our Fathers
Transformers
Beowulf
Zodiac
Dreamgirls
World Trade Center

and

Bee Movie (If Amazon ships it)

i giveup looking for bee movie, tho one good thing came out of it

there's a small video rental/sale store (he runs an internet site) in my town so i checked it out there

he said if he got any bee movie's he'd keep them for himself anyway, but he had i am legend (blu), atonement (hd dvd), and unbreakable (blu) for sale already and he said he usually just puts them up for sale/rent when he gets them

his prices are pretty much like amazon's too so i think i have a new place to buy from

Guess what guys, GUESS WHAT!

I found it.
Bee Move, HD DVD! NO JOKE!

1 single copy.

But they wouldn't sell it to me.

I walked into Frys to get an SD card when I noticed the dual display they had in the front of the store.
They always play an HD movie alongside the SD counterpart, running at the same time frame to showcase the difference.
I saw Bees and ran.

Indeed, they were playing the HD DVD of Bee Movie.
Nothing on the shelves, and they wouldn't sell me the copy playing.

It's out there though, I snapped a screenshot of both copies playing but it looks shitty.

Woah! You could've gotten some bank on selling if you managed to bag it. I REALLY hope Sweeny Todd still comes but I guess fat chance. Also if the # is as low as I'm suspecting I'd probably just sell it for the money.

So I sold a Sopranos Season Six Part 1 on Amazon the other day and I get this e-mail:

Hi Brian,

I received the part 1 DVD of the Sopranos. I have a
question about the DVD, on the front of the package
it says it can only be played on a HD/DVD, which I
don't have, what should I do? Thanks,

Watch me get screwed over this. It was clearly put up in the HD DVD section. I'm not giving her a refund.

What do you guys think about buying the 360 HD-DVD addon for 50$? I have a PS3 for Blu-Ray but there are a lot of cheap HD-DVD's I want to get also. Any idea on when/if all the HD-DVD exclusives will make it over to Blu-Ray? I'd hate to spend the money on the HD-DVD drive and movies only to see them all come out on Blu-Ray in a few months. Also I'm not terribly thrilled with having to rely on my 360 as my one and only option to ever be able to watch any HD-DVD's I get.

What do you guys think? Is it worth it to grab one now that they are cheap?

I'm with you, if it was in the HD DVD section she's SOL. She can resell it herself.

I say go for it. I mean, the stuff is pretty cheap right now, and it will be a while before it gets that cheap on Blu once it hits there. Plus, the add-on is very non-intrusive. And unlike a stand alone player, it doesn't take up much room. I'd get it. Better yet, go to FYE and try to get one for $20.

Got my token for the Xbox 360 HD DVD Emulator yesterday. Have no clue what I would do with this thing...wonder if it would sell on ebay!?!

There are probably a few others.

Considering you can get it free for the asking, I would say no.

Like someone else said chances are no it wont sell. Most who know about it know you can get it for free. If it did sell you would end up selling it to someone who didn't know. Hell I forgot that I even had mine. Has anyone played around with this thing yet?

I don't know about it. What is this emulator thing you speak of?

Huh? What's the token for?
I guess it has something to do with this Link

Exactly. Microsoft is now giving away their HDi development kit, and refunding the $3,000 to anyone who already bought it. The odds of it being relevant to anyone here are very, very slim. That said, I'll probably request one anyway.

I was just at saturday matinee in the st. clair square mall here in the St. Louis area on the illinois side. They are sending all new HD-DVDs back. I was able to get black christmas for 9.99 but all others were 22 and up still. Used HD-DVDs are going to buy 2 get the third 1/2 off and buy 3 get the 4rth free. I'm just shocked they are sending them back and not trying to sell them for little more then cost.

Well, it took the entire format's lifespan and beyond, but I finally got a bad combo disc that won't play. No American Gangster for me until Amazon sends a new one.

Never mind, I guess I've still avoided them. I had to delete everything on my (360's) HD DVD hard drive, but at least now it works.
