HDDVD Drive for $99 at Game Play Stores

I think these stores are only in the LA / Long Beach area. Anyone local should be able to get a price match at BB.

Here is the BB price match policy (most of you probably already know this):

All the details can be found here:

http://www.bestbuy.com/olspage.jsp?type=page&entryURLType=&entryURLID=&categoryId=cat10001&contentId=1118843518460&id=cat12098

Exclusions:
The Best Buy Price Guarantee does not apply to our or our competitors' free offers, limited-quantity items, open-box items, clearance items, mail-in incentives, financing or bundle offers. The policy does not apply to typographical errors or a competitor's price that results from a price match.

What is considered a local retail competitor?
A retail store located in the same market area as your local Best Buy store.

What is considered "proof" of price?
If you have already purchased the item, the best way to show proof of price is to bring in your original Best Buy receipt, plus the competitor's current ad. We reserve the right to call the competitor's store to verify the lower price and availability of the item.

Does Best Buy match prices of Internet retailers?
If you made your purchase in a Best Buy store, and you find an Internet retailer with a local retail store honoring its own online prices, we'll match their price, plus 10% of the difference. Internet-only retailers are exempt from our price matching program, as well as Web-exclusive offers. Eligible items must be the same brand and model, and currently in stock at the competitor's store. For purchases made online at BestBuy.com, please refer to the Online Price Guarantee on BestBuy.com.

Hopefully someone get pick one of these up for 99$!

Being as almost everything else is at full MSRP, or very close, I'm sure this is a typo. They would've made a much bigger deal of it if it were real.

That said, I AM in LA, and DO have BB gift cards... ;)

if you are in la and get one by pricematching, I'd like to pay for one from someone please. Was looking for xmas but 200 was a bit over my fancy.

I want to print one of these up and take it to walmart, but I don't want to look like an ass when they say "no" since I live in sc. If someone has the balls to pm this in another state let me know and I might grow a pair.

Grow a pair! This kind of thing happens all the time, you wont look as crazy as the other 50 people who tried to do it this month

So did anyone score one? I want one, but not having a HDTV at the moment makes it a want for the future not a right now want. But for $100 it is time to pull the trigger.

I live in LA, I think I have been to the gameplay store. I will have to go by there and grab a copy of the ad tomorrow to pricematch.

I don't think you are going to have much luck with a printed out copy of the ad, I would go get the actual ad.
Strange I tried both of them and all I get are blank pages?
Keep trying. It took me a couple of refreshes for the images to show.

I managed to get the page with the HDDVD drive to load, so I rehosted it on Flickr. Here you guys go:

Woohoo!
Just got one from BB in Woodland Hills, CA. Plenty left, but they might call GamePlay, which is out of stock. I called up the employee at GP and told him I was in line trying to PM, and to tell them they had some left. The lady at BB walked into the back for two minutes adn then gave it to me for $99! I'm going to try to PM my BB receipt at the nearby Wal-Mart right now.

I wish I had your cajones.

A month or so ago, I saw an HDDVD drive for $99 at a Target near me (I live near downtown Houston). I thought that was the actual price until I saw the drive again at a Best Buy. I guess the Target has since corrected the price.

No extra ones at Wal-mart.

I was thinking about PMing Best Buy again tomorrow night, since GamePlay closes at 5pm, and go in at 6pm to BestBuy. They'd try to call them up, and nobody will answer, and then I just show the receipt from today and say I did it once already. That way they know the price is real, but can't prove that GP is out of stock. I'm trying to hook up my friends, but if they don't want either, I'll put them in my tradelist.

I also told the GP employee that helped me out I'd buy him lunch, so I'll mark up the HD players to cover that. ;-)

I just got it also at bb woodland hills... they didn't even call (there was a giant line behind me) kunai, were you the guy I ran into at walmart?

I didn't talk to anybody at Wal-Mart, so I assume not.

I'll head back to BB in a little bit and pick up 2 more then.

Circuit City wouldn't let me PM since they weren't a major competitor and WalMart actually called to see if it was in stock, but of course they weren't. BestBuy had one in stock but couldn't find it. No go for me.

I got shot down from BB after trying to pick up 2 more. The best idea is to head to a Wal-Mart/BB/CC tomorrow night that's nearby, and hopefully PM.
Do you guys know if there is a website to the gameplay store? I want to see if there are any near me.
i googled the store name, and it only came up with one store in LA on google maps. I didn't see any actual page for the store.

Hmm, I live in LA, and never heard of them. Anyway, my google search came back with 3 stores:

10937 Venice Blvd, Los Angeles, CA
(310) 842-7776

6543 E Spring St, Long Beach, CA
(562) 421-6880

804 N Locust Ave, Lawrenceburg, TN
(931) 762-4200

I think the TN may not be the same chain ;)

I usually go to there before I go to work. Nice people and prices. Like Kunai said this is legit. On regular priced games (49.99-59.99, non-import) they tend to sell at least $4-5 lower than BB, CC etc.. They don't have a website. They might do that later down the line but I've been going there for 3 yrs now, so who knows. Grats if you can PM it though.

Yeah, you usually will get shot down when you're being a greedy b*tch.

In tiny print , the ad says prices good until dec 31st. of course, you can try to somewhat rip that part of the page cause it's right on the very very bottom edge of it. or you can try to wrinkle it to make it age and unreadable. But either way, the print ad says holiday 2006 sale (it's already 2007) so it's somewhat "DEAD" now.

If you can make it to one of the stores, you MIGHT be able to still get it for $100. I went to their other store (spin fusion - movies/anime/figures/imports) which is next door and they still had signs up from the sale. I went to the game store and they still had some sales going on but didn't bother looking for the hd-dvd drive since I don't own a 360 and they're most likely still sold out. Plus I was in a hurry to go to work. This was the store in Culver City.
