Ok so i dont think anyone in the states is happy about 499-599 ps3's

So why wouldnt they drop the price in the states as well?

i guess ONLY in japan are people complaining about the price being so high?

hmm... Guess its time to make www.ps3istohighintheusatoo.com and let everyone know how north america feels.

Retailers complained, they didn't say anything about the consumer.
Sad thing is tybee what I mentioned above about Blu-Ray is true. Sony HASN'T worked out the kinks of BD-50 last I heard which they really need to do to make using the MPEG2 codec viable, even possibly using BD-100 to fit some movies on one disc. Then add to the fact they make use of MS's copyright protection bit which I've heard will make it look shittier regardless if they fix themselves and modify their video to fit what HD-DVD has.
Btw tybee where's my fucking Scotch? ;-) And only an idiot would call all the shit that's happening right now glass half full even Bush excluded.
No I didn't Fury. Last I heard Sony said prices ranging from $60-80 per game and I'm sure some won't be LE's. Even $60 is outrageous IMO $70-80 standard price especially so. The ONLY game that would come close to making me spend that kind of money on a game is SMT in HD 720p or especially 1080p with the output through HDMI and it would NOT be upconverted but Atlus is too fucking cheap to do that. Graphics like that made HD, with the exception of VERY few other properties, would make the average game in HD look dull.
Oh, believe me, I think BluRay is inferior to HD-DVD, but frankly I don't think either format is going to be successful if their proponents continue on like they have been.

You're a libertarian. Buy your own damn scotch. ;)
Looks like the heat is getting to Sony though Katugari sounded just as ignorant as ever at his pre-TGS speech.
What's the Japanese equivalent of "RIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER?"
Star Ocean
Xenosaga 3
Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams
Devil May Cry 2
Star Ocean and Xenosaga 3, I understand... they were also 80+ hours long, dont be expecting next gen games to push those kind of numbers for a while, since it costs too much in dev. time. (Excluding games designed for the gamecube, but brought to the Wii to buff up horrific launch selection)

Onimusha? I never played it, but I dont see why a short button pusher requires 2 discs unless its choc-full of FMVs... which Onimusha games tend to do.

Devil May Cry 2: this was a gimmick, I dont count a game with 2 half-full DVDs because they wanted to put a character on each disk.

Anyways, next gen games come with next gen graphics, meaning more in game cut-scenes. (At least I would assume, or whats the big deal right??)

I dunno, I just think the whole thing is silly. I could care less about Blu-ray, and I could care less about Sony pushing it on me so they can control even more of the entertainment market so competition falls apart. Sony has dropped every format they've started like a bad habit, buy the PS3 because the games look awesome... but buy a blu-ray movie and you're an idiot.

Also, my friend has a Blu-ray player, and the movies look like shit. The older the movie, the more artifacts you see. Anything made over a year ago looks worse in Blu-ray. And so far buyers are returning the players for HD players.

The War is between 360 and the Wii... PS3 overshot and fucked up. Never trust a company who's betting it all on one item.
The other big complaint was that unlike the 360 core package, the 20GB PS3 could never be "upgraded" to the premium version. While this is still technically the case (no Wi-Fi, no flash memory slots), it is a way better situation then it was.
Actually, it isn't the case technically. USB add-ons will be able to add WiFi and flash card readers easily. So while it can't be upgraded internally, HDMI was the issue that couldn't EVER be fixed likely. Now it has.
Then its a choice to spend that much, not something that you have to pay.
Until you get a game like GT HD where you're paying 50-60 for a very nice opening video and logo.

sony will lose HUGE money on this right outta the gate, but in exchange they will likely dominate the gaming market again, which will help them win the B-ray race. (gaming industry gained more money than movie industry last year)

remember how often developer said we cant have japanese voice because of disc space? (Tales of Legendia and Yakuza are two recent example) They wont have that excuse with Blu Ray .

Still does not mean they will even think about including it.

Sadly, though, Sony is sticking firm with its North American PS3 plans. "In the US, we're comfortable with the pricing that we announced at E3--$499 for the 20 gigabyte version and $599 for the 60-gigabyte version," Sony Computer President Kaz Hirai told GameSpot. "There are no plans right now to adjust the pricing for the US market."

Though disappointed, potential PS3 purchasers in the US did get a bit of a consolation prize from Hirai. The executive confirmed that every 20GB PS3 worldwide will have an HDMI port, not just in Japan, as some had speculated.
