Heath Ledger Found Dead
If someone had him in a dead pool they are banked right now.

No surprise at all considering he was a frequent drug user. I'll wait for Phrostbyte to come in and defend the use of heroin.

I have sympathy for his daughter but that's about it.
Hopefully people have the same reaction to your death. Of course, I doubt you're in any death pools, you'd have to matter first.

Heath Ledger was one of the few actors that was dedicated to the idea that acting is an art. I would hope that the producers of Batman would realize that to recut his performance would be more of a disservice to him than an honor.
Autopsy inconclusive:

An autopsy? That's not surprising.

Wait about 4-8 weeks for toxicology reports to come in, and they'll be able to identify the amount of pills ingested (and that's usually a pretty good indicator of accident versus suicide - as those who take pills to commit suicide take enough to leave no room for error, so it's usually tens of hundreds of times the average dose of whatever it is...not 2 to 4 or so).
I stayed away from Live Free or Die Hard until the unrated version came out because I didn't think it could live up to my ridiculous action movie standards at a PG-13 rating. Alas, I guess I will probably wait again for an unrated / uncut BR of this movie as well. I was actually looking forward to this one, and I can't say I have ever looked forward to a Batman movie in my life.
Obviously a little OT, but how is the uncut version of DH4? I avoided it in the theaters b/c I knew an unrated cut would be coming to DVD as well.

Don't get me wrong, its not really a big deal to me. Its wrong they're basing his life on a movie though.
I read that he was found both naked and nude. Can anyone confirm this? How crazy would it be if is true!
Both naked and nude? Uhm...naked = nude.

Plus, he did have an appointment with a masseuse, generally you are naked when getting a massage. Also many people sleep in the nude.

Kansas doesn't really have anything fun to do.

It's too bad Kaczynski is in jail, otherwise I'd forward that mailing address to his shack.

It's true- thingsyoushoulddo.com lists only 6 "fun things" to do in Kansas while California has 761.

That's pretty standard when a well known actor or musician dies. I was working in a music store when Jerry Garcia died and the first thing my manager did was set up a Grateful Dead display. A lot of people came in asking for their music anyway after they heard the news so I don't really see a problem with it. The BB sign could arguably be too much but setting up a display or endcap seems fine to me.

Why is it bad for Best Buy to do that? The guy made movies so that people would watch them. It's not as if Best Buy marked up all his movies, and are making a profit off his death. If I died, and CheapyD made a special thread with some of my best posts, I would feel honored.

On one hand, there are accusations of them turning a tragedy into profit.

On another, you just KNOW that people were piling into BB and other stores today seeking to console themselves (as if they were personally affected by his death) by buying up a copy of "A Knight's Tale."

I'm indifferent. People are stupid and drawn to tragedies that don't affect them personally, and feel horrible about the death of the wealthy and powerful and popular - but fuck the rest of the world. And companies are soulless and profit-minded. I'm not big right-winger, but if you're dumb enough to think that you need to buy the Heath Ledger collected works to soothe your weeping soul, then let Best Buy take your dumbass to the fuckin' cleaners.

On that note, I have to say that Brokeback Mountain is a damned good movie, and if you're too scared to watch it (not you, VG, but the royal "you"), then you're a little too scared y'might like the sex scenes, I suspect.

The BB incident reminds me (along with the "Queen of the Damned" talk) about when I worked next door to a record store. I spent virtually half my workday in the record store (awesome), and the owner was this amazingly hilarious, bitter-beyond-fucking-belief dude who could deadpan anything. So, shortly after Aaliyah died, a 12-year old white boy walks into the store, looking to mourn the loss of the great R&B singer.

"Um, excuse me. Can you tell me what I could find Aaliyah under?"
"Yes. Have you tried a fuselage?"

Wow. Ya know, I don't really have a problem with you being a complete and total asshole, but what I really can't stand, is the way you've convinced yourself, and most of the CAG population, it seems, that your assholery is some form of wisdom or gruff worldliness something.

Who is Best Buy "taking to the cleaners"? I don't think they've marked up A Knight's Tale in the past two days.

The sort of cynicism that makes you assume that "stupid" people are only buying Heath Ledger DVDs right now to superficially "soothe their weeping souls," instead of perhaps, in light of the news of his death, simply having been reminded of genuinely enjoying his work, and wanting to revisit those works, is more pathetic than anything, and it really betrays a lot about you. I take comfort and joy knowing that I, at least, will never be as genuinely miserable as you. You're going to end up exactly like that record store owner, methinks.

Just to piss you off a little more:

Mr. Ledger’s death has drawn international attention and even affected President Bush’s schedule. Out of deference to Mr. Ledger, the president postponed an appearance Wednesday to promote an advertising campaign on preventing prescription drug abuse, Reuters reported.
"We did not want anyone to think we were trying to link into that story in any way," said Dana Perino, his spokeswoman.

Seriously though, the guy seemed like a decent dude and if people want to mourn him then I see no harm in that. I think it's good to take time every once in a while, smell the roses, and contemplate the ephemeral nature of happiness. Wilson and Ledger are seemingly guys who had it all, yet they still couldn't cope with life somehow. It's a tragedy but if it gets people to wake up to the fact that money and popularity aren't everything, then maybe some good can come out of it.

Basically the thing is this.

Ledger was about was about to break out big time with his Batman role and everyone wants a piece of that.

That's what it really comes down to.

You seem to have taken VanillaGorilla's old schtick of needing to single out my posts as of late. From the things you've said in this thread, you don't seem to be on any different a page regarding this guy's death. But let's not miss an opportunity to take a potshot!

Look, if you're powering down a tub of Haagen-Daaz while sniffling over "10 Things I Hate About You," if that's what makes you feel good, then great. But it certainly does not become, in light of that, *me* who is the one filling my life with forced emotion that is the result of people I'm detached from.

But, hey, anything to fulfill your own self-righteous agenda. Right? Right.

Now, your turn for the last word, as you just CAN'T not do it.

It doesn't piss me off that this makes people feel sad. I thought he was a decent actor, and as a father of a young child, it's a sad situation. No more sad than the numerous nameless, faceless people who we never hear about, or who we read about in the paper and then move right on to read "Marmaduke" without so much as giving a second thought.

It's all sad, really. But exalting one person because they're in the new "Batman" (and let's not fool ourselves: if this was the guy who played "Fez" on "That 70's Show," or another currently-not-hot celebrity, nobody would give anywhere near half the shit they suddenly do about Ledger) is silly.

Damn myke. I agree with you that celebtrities don't matter or affect our lives at all and how ridiculous it is the President of the USA is adjusting his agenda, it's just the problem is that you're being a huge ass. Does that make me a huge ass as well?

BTW, I did see Brokeback Moutain and enjoyed the sex scenes. I thought it was funny how they always started and ended with fistfights.

All I'll say is that if people are sad or want to mourn then I have no problem with that. I wouldn't want to tell people that their mourning over Heath (who I saw few, if any movies from) is out of place with the suffering of other nameless people in the world. I wouldn't want anyone else to say the same to me about Sean Taylor (who will mean more to me than to most people) or Eddie Guerrero.

I never have understood the argument that someone doesn't deserve attention because, "other people in the world don't get the attention for their death or suffering". You can't have pity quotas for each person that dies.

And he's the new Ponch, so he's destined for B-list reality shows for years to come.

So, where in there is the part where you defend yourself being a complete asshole and back-handedly calling upset Heath Ledger fans, and I quote, "stupid," "dumb," and "dumbass"es.

You seem to think that you have this deep understanding of the world by which you're so fucking inciteful for noticing that the, as I'm sure you consider them, shallow and stupid and manipulatable masses are more upset about the specific death of a pop culture figure, than the anonymous masses being slaughtered in Darfur.

The two aren't mutually exclusive. People can be sympathetic and concerned and even mournful about the atrocities, death, and miserable conditions that plague damn near the entire world, as well as specifically and vocally upset when an admired popular figure dies unexpectedly. But no, you see the way the world really works, myke. Everyone except you is stupid and shallow, while you, up on your hill, you're burdened with the weight of enlightened knowledge and true perspective on the cruel world around you. Riiight. You keep on thinking that.

Again, you're the ultimate loser here, because you're the who will for all intents and purposes resemble some sort of hypothetical battered, disabled, disillusioned, depressed, self-loathing, mercilessly cynical, bitter 80-year-old man, before you're even middle-aged. And now I take my turn to take a pot shot at the "stupid masses" here on CAG, who mistake your shallow cynicism for wisdom and worldliness. What a world!
All I'll say is that if people are sad or want to mourn then I have no problem with that. Handy Manny - and I am not making this up - is the Spanish equivalent to Bob the Builder, except it's in 3D CG as opposed to claymation.

This, of course, means he is Bob the Biulder's non-union Mexican counterpart.
