Definitely go to your local music store and pick some sticks up and see what you like. They will be cheaper and you can choose from more than one thing. The OEM Rock Band sticks are alright but probably too long for most people who have never drummed before. I like a little shorter stick this gives me good control. There are three diameters for sticks: 7, 5 and 3, 7 is the biggest; there are three letter designations: S for street (marching band), B for band (concert band, rock band) and A for orchestra (no one know why). But I use B's because that is what I was taught with. There are tons of tip options in both shape and material, I like medium size round tips for Rock Band they give a sharp tone and allow me to play softer to hopefully elongate the drums lives.
