EDIT: I am now a Blockbuster Online customer. I have been VERY impressed with the service, with turn around time averaging 1-2 days. The free coupons make it an offer you shouldn't refuse.

Blockbuster online info:
3 rentals out at a time
2 free in-store game/movie rentals a month
Free first month, $15 each month thereafter
anyone who got in during the free year/six month plan should check their billing info. Blockbuster changed my billing date from July to June last week although I'm not sure what to make of it. I was expecting them to start charging $15/month, but they could also be using it as a scare tactic to get people to cancel their plans. it still says that my current plan will stay in effect until november and that I'm going to be charged $0.00 a month so maybe they'll just charge $0.00 until november? I also used a prepaid credit card(with nothing on it) so I'm not sure how they'll try to bill me? I'm ready to cancel but I'm not sure yet, I'd feel like an ass if they didn't charge anything.
you are correct, at least thats what I got from a convo when I called BLockbuster customer service. They said to ignore the billing cycle date, and to ignore the email I jsut got a few hours ago. They said yes you will be charged eacdh month till NOV 12, but for only $0.00.

She said just ignore the billing cycle date, and if im charge just call them back(she made note in my account not to be charge till NOV 12, 2005 unless canceled(not to charge on NOV 12). I then got an Email from blockbuster.com saying my account info has been updated :)

wow great deal. ive been paying $15 per month for this, maybe i can cancel, then when they send me crap to get me to rejoin, i use this code

I just got an email today updating me about my account, looks like we get another month for free?

Yeah I signed up for the free year, then it went down to 2 months, then to 1 month. I never recieved a single email notification about either drop, and they were ready to bill me. This made me pretty mad, so I cancelled and complained. I would not sign up again with them, I like going to the rental store anyway, where I have a similar deal(hollywood video mvp).

I just tried to call, and they're closed. I hope they do the same for me.. although I do like getting the two free rental coupons a month. I'm trying God of War and Chaos Theory thanks to those coupons :)

I signed up and got just a free month, but I'm not complaining. The service works fine for how much we watch movies.

The 2 free instore rentals are really cool. If your store is doing the one week grace period (end of late fees) you can have each game out for 12 days . . . 24 days out of the month you can have out a game. I did God of War, Midnight Club 3, Psychonauts, and now have out Advent Rising!

This really helps me to put off buying new games until they are cheap (I'll get God for $15 someday).
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but where are you guys finding the customer service number? All I could find is a form to e-mail them.
Found this number in the email they sent me 1-866-692-2789

just recievec and email from block buster that the 6 months trail was invalid and that im only geting (1) month free
read the email....

anyone know if you can sign up for a parent. Give you an idea my mother wants these but they dont have a CC anymore (theirs just expired last month and swears they will never get another one , Long story dont ask : )

if i use their address as a shipping and my address as a billing (with my CC number) can i get them the first month free or discounted or would it be just like adding on to my account what i cancelled ---- they want to try to test it out.
Well I am keeping my account with them because I liked the service, the the two coupons pay for themselves.
Yea i signed up for a free trial to help out this site about 4 months ago. I'm still a member, they have a great turn around time. If i mail out a dvd first thing monday morning or over the weekend at the post office i'll usually get a dvd back on wednesday. I'm watching a bunch of good and the 2 free game rentals a month pays for itself. You basically get to keep a game out for a month because of their new rental plan where it's "due back" by x but not really due back till xx.;)

my 2 free months from neflix cancell ends on the 15th of aug. BUT when i go into cancell i can either get

3 movies out at a time for 4.99
or
5 movies out at a time for 16.99

for one month

so looks like im staying till sept 15

Do you mean blockbuster?! If so, when and where does it give this deal. Do they send it by email or what.

I've been a blockbuster subscriber for a while, but they recently changed the policy on their e-coupon usage and they now do not allow those coupons to be used towards game rentals.

I contacted their customer service to lodge my complaint and they responded that due to the higher cost of game rentals (a ridiculous $7.99 at my BB) they found it no longer made economic sense to allow the e-coupons to be used for game rentals. Of course skirting the obvious fact that they are the ones taking game rental prices to that atrociously high price point.

Essentially over the course of a few months they've eliminated the two major advantages they had over netflix (1) Price & 2) free rentals including games)

can anyone confirm that you can not use the E COUPONS FOR GAMES

wonder how many days it would take them to ship movies to tokyo : )

If you can't use them for games, Netflix will be my choice next time I do a plan. They have one in Hartford. I live like 5 minutes from Hartford, probably less.

Where did you get this info about no more free game rentals? I haven't heard about this anywhere.

If it's true, thanks for the heads up. Despite the problems I had, I planned to stay loyal to BBO. If they get rid of free game rentals, though, I will cancel my subscription. 8-10 day turnaround, and now no free game rentals. Time to say bye to BBO.

BTW, BBO is $18 a month, not $15 as the topic says. The price went up for new members quite a few months ago (current members keep the lower rate until next year).

It happened when I tried to use my most recent coupons for games (they generated Sept. 4th.) The Blockbuster guy informed me that they had stopped allowing games to be rented but he would try scanning them anyway just to be positive. Sure enough, they did not work. I also noticed that there had been a change on the text of the coupon and games were no longer mentioned as a use.

I contacted Blockbuster Online's customer service through the online form and this was the response they gave me:

Response (Blockbuster Online) - 09/23/2005 01:43 PM
Thank you for contacting BLOCKBUSTER Online Customer Service.

Unfortunately game rentals are no longer available with the use of in-store rental e-coupons. Based on the current prices to rent a game in-store, it was not cost effective to continue this as a part of our membership plans. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

^ Hmm, my e-coupons generated 4-5 days after yours and they still said free movie or game rental. I'm going to check to see if they change when the new ones come out on October 8. Maybe this is a regional thing. If it ends up happening to me, though, I definitely will be cancelling my subscription (or at least reducing my plan to a cheaper price).

It very well could be a regional thing. I'm in the Dallas area (Blockbuster's corp headquarters) and I think we often feel the effects first of any changes to BB policy. For example they recently announced they were testing a cost increase in the monthly in-store movie pass and the BB stores in this area were the ones affected.

Hopefully for your sake it is a regional thing right now. Getting the two game rentals made the BB Online deal the perfect combo.

called them up and they said same thing.. you cant rent games... umm lets see

Blockbuster 18 per month 3-4 days shipping each way 6-8 days total
Netflix 18 per month 1 day each way 2 day total

i dont think i will ever go back to blockbuster.... i just go in on a 1 month free netflix and the turn around is 1 day each way.

dang, I was about to subscribe just to get two coupons to use towards games, but sounds like Blockbuster will continue to lose my business after all...

Well I was browsing the BBO website and I noticed this picture. Notice the coupon has in fact been changed, and that it is no longer good for games.

bbecoupon18bp.jpg

I might decide to cancel my service after BBO raises my price from $14.99 to $17.99 at the end of this year.

Update: I got my new set of e-coupons today and they are still good for game rentals. So I guess they haven't changed them all yet, or they are only changing them for certain people. But my coupons are still good for movies and games. :D

I decided to cancel Blockbuster since I was could no longer rent games in-store with the e-coupons but ended up staying on because when I went to cancel they offered me a special deal where I could lock in the price of 15.99 for six months if I stayed on. It still ends up being cheaper than Netflix so I decided to stay on.

I have to agree. After being a happy Netflix customer, I switched to Blocbuster because they had awesome incentives. I haven't looked back. Blockbuster offers the same high level of service but with two rental coupons every month and other promotions.

My free rental coupons for this month still include games (but I haven't tried to use it on one).
And yesterday the "free previously viewed DVD" (from a list of 30) coupon showed up.

Was it the same 30 as before? SWAT, Club Dredd, etc?

No. This time it's Along Came Polly, Barbershop 2: Back in Business, Bookies, Breakin All the Rules, Cheaper by the Dozen, The Cooler, Day After Tomorrow, Envy, Fahrenheit 9/11, Godsend, Hell Boy, In America, Johnson Family Vacation, Man on Fire, Master and Commander, Mystic River, Paycheck, Saved, Secret Window, Sniper 3, Soul Plane, Starksy & Hutch, Stuck on You, Taking Lives, Tiptoes, Twisted, Walking Tall, Welcome to Mooseport, Whole Ten Yards.

out of those I'd probably go for Saved myself

anyways anyone in Virginia (near Richmond) still getting free game rental with their coupons?

thats stupid they sit there trying to compete with netflix by lowering there shit then after they do a little better.

They raise the price then a month later they stop letting u use the cupons on games..so are they admiting defeat to netflix? cause this is a horrible deal compared to netflix now its not worth it..

Netflix=winner.

Only some people have lost their free game rentals. Many people I've talked to on here and other places still have them, including me.

As for raising the price, loyal members to BB like me get to keep the lower rate through this year. After that, the price is still pretty reasonable.

BBO gives you coupons every month. Sometimes it's for buy one get one free when purchasing a DVD, and sometimes it's to simply purchase a DVD for free.

I don't see how BBO is any worse than Netflix.

i've been with BBO for almost a year and so far, they've sent me the wrong movie once, ok, twice, sent me a scratched up dvd a couple of times and a broken one, and reported all of them. i still havn't had a problem with them nor have they with me. the 2 extra free rental coupons is awesome and so are the free dvd (on selected titles) coupons. they did let me know that after the year my rate will raise a little. i still think for all of the rentals and catching up of all of the seasons i've been missing of smallville and everything else, it's well worth it.

i go with netflix

1.. they are way faster then Blockbuster.. Net 1 day turn around each way total turn around 2 days (maybe 3 last week one movie took 2 days to get there but sending has alwasys been 1 day)

compaire to BB where it takes 2-3 days to get there 2-3 days back 4-6 total

so your looking at 2 days compair to 4-6 pass

2. i got netflix for 15.59 for the next 3 months by buying a 3 month card off ebay compair to almost 19 i would pay on BB online

Ok, so I got a new movie in the mail today, but the envelope was different. Instead of the address that I mail it back to being some Blockbuster Online location, it is the address of an actual Blockbuster Video B&M store. And the envelope does not say business reply mail on it, and instead of it saying no postage necessary in the U.S., it has two stamps (one on the outside flap, one on the inside). Strange.

Are they using BBO members to transfer movies from the warehouses to individual B&M stores? And what happens if I put a different movie in that envelope?

welcome to the wonderful world of being pushed into a beta tester..... they are testing to see if its faster to send you movies from Stores instead of warehouses... expect your wait to be twice as long in the coming weeks .... and before you ask Thereis no way to get off the list if they pick you to be in the BETA TEST>.. i go put into the group before i got my account cancelled and it was taking 7 to 9 days for movies to get to me

they said hopefully by 2006 you will see a faster turn around time... If they want people to be in this BETA test group they should give you free memeber ships of something but they dont and that is why BB SUCKS

It took that long to receive movies even before I was put into this "group." So as long as it doesn't get any worse than the current turn-around time (7-10 days) than I'm not concerned.
