A few days ago i brought a game guide at TRU. Today I tried to return it, and they refuse. I told them there is nothing on their policy or recipt that mention anything about it being non returnable, and no one mention it at the time of purchase. Then they use some excuse on how they have "the right to decline or limit any return." So does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

Suck it up... Or try another TRU... Store policy...

You could try to go when another desk jocky/manager is there..

or just use good ol' persistent bitching.
Did you use the guide? Does it look like someone read through it?
Like most of their guides there are some shelf wear, but the pages inside are like new.

Like Kayden said, I'd try a different toysrus, or different workers/shift manager at the customer service counter.

Unless you've read it in the bathroom. If you did, it is now flagged and not even the salvation army will take it.

So you return stuff to TRU all the time? There is a limit to the number of things you can return even with reciept...TRU reserves the right to refuse returns. You'll probably have to try that other TRU.

did you have a receipt and how many days between the time of purchase and the time of return? Depending on how many days they might feel that you read what you needed to read on the guide and now you want your money back as well.

Can't have your cake and eat it too!!!

According to toysrus.com:

"We will gladly accept returns within 90 days of the purchase date on most items sold at any Toys"R"Us, Kids R Us, or Babies"R"Us store in the United States and Puerto Rico, with the exception of video games/accessories/systems, computer software, VHS, DVD, music, electronics, radio control, trading cards and collectibles. "

It really depends on how you read the word "most", but personally, I'd go there with a copy of the policy, and/or check your receipt for a return policy. It should be very clear.

As for returning too many times, I did one return this year and one return last year. Both were for some minor stuff.

They might felt I had the guide for too long, but the store polciy is 30 days on most product and 45 for video games/acc. I am within the limit of both dates. Heck at one time some guy returned like 6 or 7 sealed Nintendo DS and they didnt have any problem with that.
Not to be rude....but why were you trying to return it?
Cause I got it cheaper at another place.

Also I can understand they dont want books that might have been read, but they nothing in their policy that mention this. At some book store they will take back books with visible damage, and some will have all sales are final printed on their recipt. At EB and GS they told me that guides are non returnable. What I am upset is that the store is not sticking to their store policy and use the lamest excuse.

Serves you right for buying a guide in the first place... it's called gamefaqs and it's free, just avoid the message boards there at all costs.

There's not too many places that will let you return a guide. People don't use guides to play with. Guides are used for the information they provide and for the most part guides are only good for one small part where your stuck ina game and that's it. There's nothing saying that you can't return it. You just cant get yout money back. Game guides are in the "R" Zone and considered electronics and electronics it says "opened items can only be exchanged for identical item". I know they are open as they are but that also means that you could have looked through the guide first before you bought it. Sell it on eBay or give it away because you're just going to wast yout time tyring to get your money back.

YAWN....I've said it before, I'll say it again....

Toyrus.com is different from B&M TRU...toysrus.com is run by Amazon so the policy varies.

Execpt the store didnt use that argument and just declined my refund without any logical reason.

I called the called Guest Relations toll-free number at 1-800-869-7787. I talked to the CSR and he thinks I should be able to retrun it. He did open a case number so someone will look into this.

Well, I know that where work (Gamerush/Blockbuster) we dont take back any publications of any kind, especially not manuals.

Who's to say that you didnt go home and copy everything out of it?

We just dont do it...dont know if it's the same for TRU..but sounds like it.

Are you trying to return a penny guide? I know its cheap ass gamer, but then if your whining about the penny, you are really being an ass.

Dumbassgamer alert!

#5 : "person X is stupid, therefore it is moral and just to hurt him/her.".

+

#9. "Item X is of no value to me, therefore it is of no value to anyone."
People have different value functions. Didn't your parents cover this?

There's more to a guide than just gameplay tips. Some people like the art; some just like collecting them.

I don't think any store lets you return strategy guides or even magazines. They are meant t be read and thrown away. Who knows that you didn't just read it, beat the game, now want money back? I think its 100% fair. Would you want to goto EB and buy a used game marked as new? No, everyone hear bitches about it.

Seriously, the only way they will let you return it is if a manager is nice and allows it. I know I would never let anyone return a magazine or strategy guide.

Today I juat returned 2 Phantom Brave guide at gamestop thatI brought 3 days ago. Even though they told me the guides were non returnable when i brought it, the manager said he would make an execption this time. I ended up buying a SMT guide and got $2 back.

You are forgetting that people are free to read before they are buying the guide, so it is never as new as you think. A better example would be compare it to other bookstores. Many will let you retrun even with slight wear. Plus often I brought guides that are not "new" to begin with.

The manger might have his own option on the issue, but he can't let that interfer with the store policy.

As for the decison of the manger, I often met manager who were willing to bend the rules. Those ended up being places that I prefer to spend my money at.

So if it was your decision the store's policy would be not to take these back. Fine.

What happened here was that employees acted against store policy - which is to allow customers to return them.

If you want to really push your issue and used your credit card to pay :

1) Obtain WRITTEN AND SIGNED proof from toysrus that they refuse to take the guide back even through you are within the 30 day return frame. This is very important, it needs to be dated and signed that they refused it, with full name of who refused you.

2) Contact your credit card company, explain the situation, tell them you have written proof and want to contest your charge.

3) Your CC company will research the issue, since you have written proof of them refusing for no reason, they will deny the charge and remove it.

Result : toysrus is out of their money and you got a free guide.

No TRU will let you return a strategy guide unless you find a manager who is REALLY sympathetic to your case. It's like trying to return a newspaper at a grocery store.
