Hip-Hop ain't dead~!! It's the D-d-d-d-d-discussion Thread!
I think the best CL album is Southernunderground, it's start to finish one of the more solid albums I've ever heard. "Seasons" with Masta Ace is definitely a potential classic I think.
That song is pretty fucking good.

Hip-Hop sure ain't dead. Brother Ali is on tour with One Be Lo (formerly One Man Army of Binary Star), Toki Wright, Psalm One, and BK One. I saw them on Sunday here in Cleveland and it reaffirmed my love for the underground. Brother Ali's new joint is tight and he's got distribution WIDE. So more people will be introduced to Rhymesayers and to hip-hop not to Scott f***in Storch overproduced garbage.
Sage Francis new album comes out a week from today and will on tour all summer. MF Doom comes out in June. Hell, Detox might finally come out by September. Hip-hop is alive and kickin.

DJ Jazzy Jeff's new album was leaked and I have to say that its a must buy. Once again, he easily clears the bar he set from his last album. There is one song that is a bit of a mis-step, Touch Me Wit Ur Handz comes off flat and just sounds off (though it does fit in with the vibe of Jill Scott's song on The Magnificent).

Here are my favorite songs on the album

Hip Hop featuring Twone Gabz
Let Me Hear U Clap featuring Pos of De La Soul
Run That Back featuring Eshon Burgundy & Black Ice
The Definition featuring Kel Spencer
Supa Jean featuring Jean Grae
All I Know featuring CL Smooth
My Soul Ain't For Sale featuring Raheem DeVaughn

I really can't wait for this to drop next week.

My favorite rapper hands down is MF DOOM.

i love the wu-tang albums

Method man-tical(my favorite song on this one Mr. Sandman=Classic)
But, you gotta put that Biggie Ready to Die up there

Since "It's Dark and Hell was Hot' was listed, I thought that was defintely DMX's best work and his only album that is nearly a classic, but it is not consistently great enough for me to consider a classic, but it is close. I would give it a solid 4 to 4.5 stars out of 5.

I bought A-Plus - My Last Good Deed last nite and listened it today to and from work. allhiphop reviewed it here:

http://www.allhiphop.com/reviews/?ID=1180

there's not really much I can say they didnt already say. Definitely 3.5/5, a very good album but not top of the year good.

I think a new Souls of Mischief album is due next, since Phesto is too quiet to release a solo. That sux too since if he were to make a record, it would prolly be for backpackers since his style represents that.

but dont expect a new Souls album to drop for a while... this new A-Plus album is released 2 years after Opio's!!

Sc4rfac3>> I am also really lookin forward to the new MOP, but I am so afraid that it will suck due to g-unit affiliation.

Firing Squad, First Fam 4 Life, and Warriorz were all the shit!!!!! they're all definitely albums I can bump back to back all day.

but the oly other thing I have heard from them was their scrapped roc-a-fella album, Ghetto Warfare, and it sucked!! (altho that's prolly becoz they decided to release an unfinished product)

regardless, Mobb Deep released probably their worst record thanks to g-unit, I hope MOP doesnt follow the same road.

also, this is probably the WORST NEWS EVER:

http://www.allhiphop.com/hiphopnews/?ID=7020

Sean Paul of The YoungBloodZ has changed his name to Sean P and is planning the release of his new solo album, which is due in stores in summer 2007.

According to Sean P, the new album is being recorded in Atlanta, Miami and Los Angeles.

The rapper, who recently launched a 21-date tour of U.S. Army bases throughout Asia in April in Tokyo, recently dropped "You Aint Know" featuring T Pain.

"You Aint Know" is the first single from the album, which Sean P says will feature a number of high profile collaborations.

"Our soldiers are in need of some good ole' down south Crunk entertainment," Sean P said. "Everyday, these guys put their lives on the line for freedom that we take for granted...it's because of them that I have the freedom to do what I do. They are true heroes."

Sean P, who has also toured Iraq, Kuwait and Bahrain, was recently honored during the 24th Annual ASCAP Awards for his contribution to "Snap Yo Fingers," which he co-wrote with E-40 and Lil' Jon.

uuuu-waaaaaaaay~~~~~

EDIT:

hey DJSteel,

since u like dangerdoom and grey album, you should listen to DM & Jemini - Ghetto Pop Life.

it's the only Dangermouse record I really dig, but he does that jack-of-all-trades style production much better than Kanye or Oh No imho. Plus Jemini is a great emcee to compliment the beats!!

anyway, I recommend that album to everybody!!

and o yeah, I really wanna hear that Puff Daddy album, No Way Out.

I heard it's the shit!
and o yeah, I really wanna hear that Puff Daddy album, No Way Out.

Fixed.

But in all seriousness, for whatever stupid stunts that guy pulls in real life (J. Lo overexposure, annual name changes, Shyne taking the rap, Making the Band, drunken Proactiv rant), he's always had a good ear for samples and hooks. His main musical problems lie in resorting to obvious samples (and worse, not using them creatively) and, more importantly, thinking for some godforsaken reason that he can rap. I try to imagine a world in which Sean Combs remained behind the boards forever and ever. Would've been nice.

So I'm getting 180 free Emusic downloads tomorrow and I gotta decide what albums to d/l.

Definites:
Solillaquists of Sound- As if We Existed
Talib Kweli- Right About Now
Sadat X- Experience and Education
Chamillionaire (yeah I'm kinda ashamed about this one)- I'll probably get Chamilitary
Sage Francis- I'll probably get Sick of Waiting Tables
The Perceptionists- Black Dialogue

The catch is that I can only d/l 15 tracks per month, so I still gotta decide which album I want most. Then I gotta decide what albums to fill out the rest of the year, maybe Sadat's Black October, I'll Sleep When You're Dead, or another Sage album among some other stuff I've been looking at.

Anybody got any suggestions on which of my targets to d/l first. I can only get the general idea of each w/ 30 sec samples. Any help is appreciated.

don't hate there are a lot of good songs on the cd.. don't the music just because you dislike P Diddy.. I don't personally like the guy..

btw... Rhyme for reason soundtrack... if you've never heard it before there is a track by Rza on there, Tragedy.. very good.. also Uni-4-orm with Can-I-bus, Rass Kass and Heltah Skeltah..great song..check that out! I don't like many OSTs

That was my point entirely.

I can still appreciate a guy's music even if he's a completely moronic, immature jackass away from the music. And no, at this point I'm not even talking about Diddy. I'm talking about Kanye.

I'd say to hold off on Right About Now. I'm a big Talib fan but unless you're diehard, you can wait to get that one. Although "Fly That Knot" and "Supreme, Supreme" are great tracks, featuring MF DOOM and Mos Def respectively.

Man, I miss High School.

We used to have a little group that would get together and Beat Box, Rap battle, n' just kick it during lunch.
We'd have our own stereo too, haha. Once in a while a security dude would come around and we'd let em get in on it, just so they wouldn't break up the fun

*sigh*, we used to have some funny ass battles too ^^

I can just picture a bunch of white boys rapping at the school lunch table ;)

I sent sum guy to the dean's office for freestyle battling him, coz all he knew how to do was cuss ppl out in a sorry attempt to rap.

the dean came and was like "HOW DARE YOU SAY THOSE WORDS IN A CATHOLIC SCHOOL!!" and then detained him.

the best part?? my friend got it on tape! but that also got detained :(

Primetime, if you can find any Level Jumpers or Skrapz stuff on emusic, I would strongly encourage downloading that. Also if this Masta Ace and Marco Polo track from the new Marco Polo album is ANY indication of what this album is going to be like at all, put it right near the top of your list. This song is making me so happy that Ace isn't done rapping like he was saying he was...I can't stop listening to it.

Just wanted to let ya'll know..last weekend I saw the legendary De la Soul in concert and boy, oh boy, cats still had it.

Oodles, potholes, saturday night, they did it all.

Right About Now wasn't good..and I know this is against what most of you think, but I'll Sleep When You're Dead did not really do it for me.

Besides Dilla's re-release of Ruff Draft, this year has been dry...cannot wait till Doom drops...

Thanks guys. I'll keep that in mind Level Jumper. Thanks for the heads-up Woohoo. I ended up going with Solillaquists of Sound- As if We Existed for the first month. Can't go wrong with them.
I don't understand the Right About Now hate.... Need to listen to this El-P cat.
I'm not hatin', just not one of Talib's best stuff. Still pretty good, though.
Just wanted to let ya'll know..last weekend I saw the legendary De la Soul in concert and boy, oh boy, cats still had it.
their performance at Rock the bells was amazing, it was the only time I ever seen them!!!!

they said one of the most awesome things at the end of their set too, something like "if you've been around as long as us you do not say thank you, you say you're welcome"
Besides Dilla's re-release of Ruff Draft, this year has been dry...cannot wait till Doom drops...
have u heard the new Evidence?? The weatherman brings the fuckin rain dawg, aint no dry reason there. Regardless, one of the best this year.

also if u guys havent seen this, Scott Storch dis record to Timbaland:

the only thing this track is going platinum off of is comedic value. TIMOTHY, LOL~!!

I listened to the new Redman today, I bought it tuesday when I picked up A-Plus, but the album coulda really done without Scott Storch's track...

man fuck scott storch

I met with Joe Beats today because he wanted to give me his Indie Rock Blues CD in person, which I bought off him, and he gave me a bunch of free stuff. Three rare 7"s, two copies of Indie Rock Blues on CD and vinyl, his new CD Diverse Recourse and his EP with Blak, Strategery.

www.joeybeats.com = good shit.

I'm liking the new Jazzy Jeff album. It's the first thing I've heard from him. What are other good Jazzy Jeff albums?

Jazzy Jeff used to do stuff with Will Smith back in the day, there's no way this is the first thing you've heard from him. Most of his stuff is pretty good though.

Hahaha, that reminds me of when Power 106 dropped by our school.

They invited everyone who wanted to up for a freestyle battle. Needless to say, the majority of them blew, I felt embarassed for them, but then it got down to 2 people, and damn, they were flowin' nonstop, goin' accapella after the DJ cut the track.

One dude did get in trouble for cursing also, cuz he was trying to maintain his rhythm, but I guess he ran out of words (He was terrible anyways), then just started cursing in front of everyone XD. The security was watching, the Vice Principal, some of the teachers, even THE PRINCIPAL was there. This dude didn't give a fuck, he kept goin .
They cut him off and "escorted" him off stage.
I can just picture a bunch of white boys rapping at the school lunch table ;)
lol, we didn't have any white boys in the group. Mostly latino w/ a couple black dudes, and some other races that I can't remember :/

It was fun though :)
I'm liking the new Jazzy Jeff album. It's the first thing I've heard from him. What are other good Jazzy Jeff albums?
"He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper", and 'The Magnificant'.

But you've probably heard him the past.

what's so great about Immortal Technique?? Can u recommend me any of his albums??

I always hear everyone talk about him, but the few songs of his I heard didnt click with me, so I never gave him much thought after that.

also has any1 heard of the producer Tommy Tee??? I was lookin thru the liner nnotes of the Souls of Mischief - Trilogy record and he produced 2 songs: Danglin & Trilogy. Both songs have pretty crazy beats, but I also remember his name as the dude who produced Church from Jesus Price Superstar (Sean Price)

I cannot find a production credits discography of him, only a useless wiki article and a myspace page. Any1 kno any other good songs he has made for US artists (or even foreign artists as well).

and a new Royce da 5'9'' mixtape came out which is him over dj premier beats thruout the entire record. I think I've slept on this dude for way too long, especially since I really like his song 'Boom.' What's the best albums to start with for him???

and if any of u guys got demonoid accounts, u gotta get all over these:

http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1137478/6758696/
http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1137470/844837/
(lol am I allowed to post demonoid links?? these records can't be obtained thru retail and I am sure the artists want others to DL them)

Trigger the Gambler & Smoothe the Hustler albums!!!

These doods along w/ DV Alias Khrist did the track "My Crew Can't Go For That" off the Nutty Professor soundtrack, which is a music video MIA from youtube.

Trigger's album never came out, it was scrapped by Def Jam I believe.

Smoothe's did come out, but it soon became hella rare. I actually own a copy tho!! I saw it one day at Frys and copped it without even thinking a second thought... and the album was dope!!!!

here's a MV from the album:

damn, first I linked u guys to the japan-only Camp Lo release and now these 2 gems??? JEKKI bringin dat shit!!

I also wanted to post old Jermain Dupri / SoSoDef stuff coz he was the shit back in the days, but youtube yanked pretty much everything from their website. seriously.

this is the best I can find, it aint rap but it's definitely gonna take you back:

Just got back from a Mr. Lif show. Second time seeing him and although the crowd wasn't huge, we were all into it. Dude puts on a fuckin' nuts show.

so the new Bone album is 2 recommendations vs one it's aiite comment, looks like I gotta bump Thug Stories and then S&L higher in my to-listen que. Probably once I finish listening to Utada Hikaru - Ultra Blue, lol.

Infi Shimi Coco Puff>> I donno what songs they were, an old coworker of mine from last year gave me 3 cdrs of random music and they jus happened to be like 3 Immortal Technique tracks on there. I kno it was him becoz he mentioned his names in his verses.

those cds he gave me were pretty wack too!! I already had most of the music on them and they dont all blend together very well,

but thanks to them I gave Mr Lif some deserving attention, and am glad I did too!!

There's a Cunninlynguists show later this month (22nd). I wanna check them out, I havent been to a show since Rock the Bells 06

I dunno why everyone loves Technique so much, to be honest. I've got the 2 albums he's put out so far and they're alright, but not fantastic I don't think. The only thing I can think of that people love him to death for is that he's a very social/political rapper, and he does do a good job with that. I guess that's just something that I can't listen to all the time...I think when I listen to rap, the majority of the time I want the lyrics to have great word play before anything else.

I can see where you're coming from. I'm a Technique fan, but I'm not as into him as others are. I like his social/political lyrics, but like any artist who only raps about one or two topics, it can become dull after a while. I'm looking forward to some new material from him, though.

My favorite song by him is probably "You Never Know."

Jekki, did one of those tracks happen to be Dance With The Devil? I know I'll probably catch some slack for this, but I think it's one of the best tracks (storywise) in recent years.

As for Royce, you might wanna start with Death Is Certain. Rock City is okay, and Independent's Day is a little on the commercial side. Build and Destroy is def worth peeping as well. Two discs full of some random goodness, including one of his D-12 disses, Malcolm X.

And anyone else here a fan of Ayatollah's beats? I fucking love his beats, but it seems like he hasn't done much, even though he's been in the game for a while. I've only heard a couple songs he's produced for others and some instrumental album called Now Playing. I was just wondering if anyone knew about some good mixtapes or what he's been up to lately.
Can anyone give me some opinions on Vaudeville Villain by Viktor Vaughn?
I can almost hear zew now....
Ooooookay, that's not very helpful.
I like the album, but he's probably one of the best sources to ask/wait for a response from.
