hmm.

I'd like to see a comparison to the cost of other President visits to other nations. That number on its own isn't telling enough.

I can't really find much other than costs of flying using AF1, and presidential campaign costs. I just look at $200 million per day being spent on this trip and am trying to wrap my head around the cost.

I think the President should go to major countries on a semi regular basis, so I'm ok with that. Mumbai was where that ridiculous terrorist attack went down a couple of years ago, so the President would basically have to bring a small army with him to guarantee protection, so I'm ok with that. I guess it becomes at what cost is it worth it? I dunno. But that is a helluva big number. I'm curious if it's real or not, or just what the number actually turns out to be.

How much did Bush's 1/3rd of the year vacation cost during his first year?

It's important for our president to be a foreign diplomat, though $200mil per day is certainly outlandish.

How about the Governor of Texas and his trips around the world? Why is a state representative traveling around the world when he has no power to do anything abroad?

Nah. It's only bad when democrats do it.
Seriously? What the fuck does Bush have to do with Obama's trip to India costing supposedly 200 million bucks a day?
Not the former governor, dude. The current governor, Rick Perry. Good try though.
I'll complain about what the governor of Texas does with my money when I live in Texas.
Why not now? Does Texas not receive any federal funding?
I'll complain about what the governor of Texas does with my money when I live in Texas. My mistake assuming you meant Bush.
You might also look into your governor's travel record then.

Also, Texas took stimulus money so who's to say if it's your money or not?

Id like to know why he is leaving the country at all. Isnt he the president of the united states and not the world? Call me crazy but he needs to fix shit here first.

And yes they shouldnt be charging so much for his trips, just like his wife shouldnt have a unlimited credit card for all those trips to buy dresses she is always buying that are more a piece than a lot of familes make a year.

Cut out of trips to space also for a while as well. Not sure why we need to be spending billions on space and trying to get shit to mars when our economy is in this shitter. We have enough problems down here, dont need to be wasting all our money on up there right now. Come back to space on we have our shit together.

Oh god, the hypocrisy.

Security costs money. It doesn't matter if the president was Bush or Obama, democrat or republican, they deserve the protection even if it is $200 million dollars (if that is true). Everything isn't always a goddamn democrat vs. republican issue.

It isn't a matter of just hiring a few mean-looking goons to protect the president.

The costs are crazy for sure. But diplomacy is important and obviously security is a huge concern in today's world more than arguably anytime in the country's history.

Yes, security is important, but is renting over FIVE HUNDRED rooms(aka the entire Taj Mahal hotel) necessary for security?
Gargus has been to space? Sweeeet!
He is a bit of a space cadet.

It isn't like they are all going to be empty. In the OP, it says that 3000 people are accompanying him.
Wait, so Obama is taking trips into space? On MY dime? Goddamnit.
Nope, nor did I say I personally had. Was talking about the government in general as you well know. Expanding on not only is that a waste of money for his trip but nasas space trips as well. Wasting a lot of money on going other places and sinking our own budget into the proverbial shitter to do it.

I guess you can only post stuff so long before you run out of good ways to wax sarcasm and start really grasping for straws. Some bored folks here if all you have to do is take lame cheap shots at me without actually being able to make sense doing it.

*Actually*, to be fair, I can understand the governor of a state traveling overseas to try and entice foreign businesses to locate within their state. Now, I might question if that's the best use of a governor's time/tax payer funds... but it is understandable.

And on that note Im done posting on these forums. All I mostly ever seen is half hearted attempts at pointless, unwarranted and quite often confusing sarcastic remarks.

I try to make a point and I get this. So aside from bumping my want list in the trade section occasionally and browsing the deals section Im done with these forums.

So, you guys win.

Smell ya later.

Why spend so much time getting gays out of space when they can serve in the millitary?!?!????

Oh for crying out loud, it was a joke.
Why spend so much time getting gays out of space when they can serve in the millitary?!?!????
Female Stormtroopers only exist at fan conventions; so it makes perfect sense to ship all the gays into space to be our armed forces in the next frontier. Satisfies bigoted hilljacks like Clint McCance, and satisfies the gay community by allowing them to serve openly in the military.

You never bothered to ask why they "weren't the droids [they were] looking for"?

Why, it's because they weren't *fabulous*!

Anderson Cooper had some dumb bitch on last night talking about this. She spits out the $200M number.

"Where. Did. That. Number. Come. From?"

Turns out it's all a gigantic clusterfuck game of telephone, and the BEST source anyone has found is some completely bullshit conjecture from a random person in the Indian government.

But don't worry. Enough dumbshits are going to repeat it forever, and being the dumbshits they are, they will believe it eventually. I think we should toss in projections of the world being flat, because I'm guessing those people will start to question that after a while too.

President Obama's upcoming trip to India won't cost $200 million a day, and "34 warships" aren't accompanying him to the subcontinent. But it doesn't matter! It's already the hot new right-wing anti-Obama rumor.

If you haven't received any emails from your Uncle Rick lately, you may not be up on the latest in "weird shit that conservatives believe," which is too bad, because this latest one is a doozy: Did you know that President Obama's trip to India will cost $200 million dollars per day, and that he'll rent out 870 rooms and take 3,000 people with him, and he'll have an entourage of 34 "warships" (No, really! Warships!) and eat a billion sandwiches and get room service every night and ride a horse with eight legs and his dad will buy him a race car, all at the taxpayer's expense?

Okay, so, those last four aren't actually part of the rumor, but the first four are, as repeated by completely insane Republican Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann on CNN's AC 360 on Wednesday night. And, of course, by the Drudge Report, on its front page, today.
Moar:
The thing is though, none of it is true. These tidbits all seem to come from anonymously-sourced articles in the Indian press, and you don't really need access to the White House's secret plans to figure out how wrong they are. For example: $200 million a day is more than the War in Afghanistan costs, as FactCheck.org points out. Somehow it seems unlikely that the trip to India will cost that much. But, hey, why let any of that stop you?

Maybe it's two million in Indian money and by the time you run that through the wringing it's like $1.5mil USD and three goats
Maybe it's two million in Indian money and by the time you run that through the wringing it's like $1.5mil USD and three goats
That's kind of what I was thinking.

1 US dollar = 0.0228 Indian rupees

200 million rupees would 4.56 million dollars. 4.56 million seems alot more realistic.
ya, kinda saw that coming, which is why I didn't state it as a fact. good to know though.
We'd think a sitting congressman would think similarly. We'd be sadly mistaken.

I guess we should just be happy she didn't think Obama being there would tip over the whole subcontinent.

I don't normally watch Rachel Maddow but I saw her show last night. John Hodgman (the PC guy!!!!) was on her show last night explaining why something like this India trip was getting so much coverage even though there was virtually no evidence for it.

His explanation was pretty much a variation of Colbert. The trip may not actually cost $200 mill, but it feels like it does. I have this perception that Obama is a tax and spend liberal, so if someone tells me he spent $300 billion on something I'll believe it.

Oh and Maddow admitted to being a vampire lesbian.
