Hoarding question...
You did a good thing. Don't worry too much. The only time I consider hoarding bad is when someone strips a store of tons of copies of all of the most popular things the first day or two. If it's been up on here a few days and I just don't see it I don't blame them for stuff being gone, I blame myself. If you're helping other CAGs get the game, you're doing a good thing. A lot of people, like myself, joined because of the awesome Circuit City $5 sale a few years ago on July 4th that happened to leak early. Some guy near here went and bought EVERY copy of all of the rare to semi-rare games. The clerk told me he walked out with a full cart full and spent like $1,000. That is pure hoarding and I will key someones car if I ever met someone doing that. Oh Disgaea :whistle2:(

If it's the first day or two of something on here and there's 3 copies, leave one. If it has been a week and theres 10 copies still, buy 9 for all I care. I'm all about leaving one for others just incase. Even if a strictly eBayer gets it, it's only one but a CAG could get it so it works out.

If it's the last day of a sale or whatever, rape the store. My friend and I took a few Toys R Us stores to town the last day of the big coupon sale where most stuff ended up being free two years ago because there had been a full month for people to hit it. I made a few hundred off of Gamerush because of it.
Lol, do any of you have that pic? I've seen it around before, but I want to see it again. It's the one with all the games over the table.

It all depends. I found a stash of 5 copies of Vagrant Story, all sealed, at my Wal-Mart. I ended up buying three (thus leaving two for anyone else) and flipping two onto Amazon to pay for them all and to raise a bit of money for a 360, and kept one to play with. *shrug* I figure people had their chance, since they'd been there for years before I found them, and several months after until they were marked down enough that they were worth buying.

It's all about limits. General rule is don't take more than half the stock. And use at least some to help people who weren't able to get in on the deal.

For instance, my local Toys R Us had a bajillion 1 cent copies of Midway Arcade Treasures 2, which was $20 at retail at that point. So I bought 4 copies: Kept one, gave one to a friend, and sold the two others for $5 shipped a piece. So I made a modest profit, while selling to CAG's at 75% off the retail price, and left behind plenty of copies for other shoppers.

So as long as you don't over do it, taking a few copies, and especially helping out others who weren't able to get on the deal, is fine.

When the big sales are found I go looking for myself and my two brothers for upcoming birthdays or Christmas.
 • If I'm fortunate enough to find more than enough copies and the game will sell for a profit on eBay, I'll pick up one or two for that.
 • If the game won't sell for a profit, I'll pick up one or two for CAG, either trading or just passing along at cost plus expenses (btw lawdood, I got your WarioWare Touched today).
 • If it's a dirtcheap Kmart (or where ever) title that's been sitting there forever and can be used to trade in at Rhino (2/1), for good credit at GR or full credit at my EB, I'll pick up one or two for that purpose. But not if they are very popular titles for kids. Those I leave for the kids.
What frosts me are people who buy thigs for the sole purpose of making a profit off of it. Am I any better? Probably not. But it still gets under my skin when you're an hour behind "some guy who cleared out our shelves to sell on eBay."

I think what's more annoying that actual hoarding or mass flipping is people posting about it. It can be really frustrating when you've been to half a dozen stores looking for 1 game and someone announces they just bought up a dozen copies for the sole purpose of making a couple bucks.
Define it in your terms.

I remember getting blasted for buying 5 of a certain game, 1 for me, 1 to flip to pay for both, and 3 to pass along here to those that wanted to pay cost plus sh.

Now it seems that if you give it a week and stuff is still there, buy away cause you gave others the chance? Or if you wait till the last day and buy whatever is left thats a possible hot commodity, its ok?

Im just trying to get a handle on the rules cause it seems like they get changed from time to time by people that deem said hoarder " a good person".
i live in los angeles so it seems like most of the good deals dont last for more than a day or 2 anyways. As for buying more than one of something i dont see anything unethical about it, like i said, i am often too late to get anything at most of the super sales(tru, circuit city etc) so if i am fortunate enough to get one or 2 extra i do it.

Now the online sales are a bit different, because i figure if i order more than 1 it will just get cancelled, so i just get one.

But frankly it is almost always a moot point. I dont think i have ever seen some superfine bargain that had FIVE in stock, let alone 2. Unless you are talking about some garage sale or something. but even those i dont like to drive all over town and spend a sh!tload on gas money just to save 5 or 10 or even 20 or 50 bucks on videogames that i may or may not really even want.

Bottom line,is that you have to live with your actions, so long as you dont do anything you may regret later, you are fine. Good god, i think i sound like jerry springer(he always had a lot of B.S. for like 30 minutes, then sums it up in a line or 2 of moral ethics heh)

I just think its funny when someone posts that they bought a ton of copies of something people want and gets upset when people criticize it. I had the common sense not to mention that i bought 15 copies of Digital Devil Saga for 9.98 - that wouldhave been CAG suicide, glad i never mentioned it.

Here's the problem - you don't know if your hoarding is taking the opportunity away from CAG's honest John who just wants a good game to play for a good price, or if you're taking the opportunity from cheap.games.ebay guy who will walk into the store right behind you and buy out the whole shebang just for himself.

If it's the former, you're biting the hand that feeds you. You go on CAG, find a great deal, then screw all the other CAG's for your own profit. If it's the latter, it's either him or you. Why not you? At least *you* might decide to come back to CAG and share the wealth.

The problem is, you just don't know who you're taking it away from. So you have to decide for yourself whether or not you want to take the chance that what you leave behind will be picked up by someone who "deserves" the deal. That is, assuming you actually care.

Which is why these threads always spiral into finger-pointing, because each side (I think) tends to see either one side or the other (CAG John or Ebay guy) inevitably being the one who always misses out.
