How could anyone vote for George W. Bush?

Stop writing in caps. It is childish. Or write in caps using select words.

What would be preferable, Tehran controlling the Persian Gulf?

You really need a dose of realism.

If Iran had won the Iraq-Iran war in the late 1980's the Gulf would be more of a disaster than it is now. And Iran is currently seeking to control the outcome in Iraq right now.

Further, it was essential back in the 1980's for Iraq to retain its territorial integrity. That may or may not be the case now.

I never said using chemical weapons was fun or pleasant. But in the instance when Hussein used them in the late 1980's given the specifics of the situation, well, that was that.

I really don't care. And that he got the weapons from us - I don't care.

At the time it made sense. My enemies enemy is my friend. That changes based on circumstances.

I think it's time you opened your eyes to the "man" who's leading our country:

GEORGE W. BUSH RESUME
The White House, USA
RESUME

PAST WORK EXPERIENCE:
I ran for congress and lost.
I produced a Hollywood slasher B movie.
I bought an oil company, but couldn't find any oil in Texas; company went
bankrupt shortly after I sold all my stock.
I bought the Texas Rangers baseball team in a sweetheart deal that took land
using taxpayer money.
Biggest move: Traded Sammy Sosa to the Chicago White Sox.
With my father's help (and his name) was elected Governor of Texas.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
I changed pollution laws for power and oil companies and made Texas the most polluted state in the Union.
I replaced Los Angeles with Houston as the most smog ridden city in America.
I cut taxes and bankrupted the Texas government to the tune of billions in
borrowed money.
Set record for most executions by any Governor in American history.
I became president after losing the popular vote by over 500,000 votes, with the help of my father's appointments to the Supreme Court.

* ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PRESIDENT:
* I attacked and took over two countries.
* I spent the U.S. surplus and bankrupted the Treasury.
* I shattered the record for biggest annual deficit in history.
* I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12-month period.
* I set all-time record for biggest drop in the history of the stock market.
* I am the first president in decades to execute a federal prisoner.
* I am the first president in US history to enter office with a criminal record.
* In my first year in office I set the all-time record for most days on vacation by any president in US history.
* After taking the entire month of August off for vacation, I presided over the worst security failure in US history.
* I set the record for most campaign fund raising trips by any president in US history.
* In my first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost their job.
* I cut unemployment benefits for more out-of-work Americans than any other president in US history.
* I set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12-month period.
* I appointed more convicted criminals to administration positions than any president in US history.
* I set the record for the fewest press conferences of any president since the advent of TV.
* I signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than any other president in US history.
* I presided over the biggest energy crises in US history and refused to intervene when corruption was revealed.
* I presided over the highest gasoline prices in US history and refused to use the national reserves as past presidents have.
* I cut health care benefits for war veterans.
* I set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously take to the streets to protest me (15 million people), shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of mankind.
* I dissolved more international treaties than any president in US history.
* I've made my presidency the most secretive and unaccountable of any in US history.
* Members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in US history. (The 'poorest' multimillionaire, Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her).
* I am the first president in US history to have all 50 states of the Union simultaneously go bankrupt.
* I presided over the biggest corporate stock market fraud in any market in any country in the history of the world.
* I am the first president in US history to order a US attack and military occupation of a sovereign nation, and I did so against the will of the United Nations and the world community.
* I have created the largest government department bureaucracy in the history of the United States.
* I set the all-time record for biggest annual budget spending increases, more than any other president in US history.
* I am the first president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the Human Rights Commission.
* I am the first president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the Elections Monitoring Board.
* I removed more checks and balances, and have the least amount of congressional oversight than any presidential administration in US history.
* I rendered the entire United Nations irrelevant.
* I withdrew from the World Court of Law.
* I refused to allow inspectors access to US prisoners of war and by default no longer abide by the Geneva Conventions.
* I am the first president in US history to refuse United Nations election inspectors access during the 2002 US elections.
* I am the all-time US (and world) record holder for most corporate campaign donations.
* The biggest lifetime contributor to my campaign, who is also one of my best friends, presided over one of the largest corporate bankruptcy frauds in world history (Kenneth Lay, former CEO of Enron Corporation).
* I spent more money on polls and focus groups than any president in US history.
* I am the first president to run and hide when the US came under attack (and then lied, saying the enemy had the code to Air Force 1)
* I am the first US president to establish a secret shadow government.
* I took the world's sympathy for the US after 911, and in less than a year made the US the most resented country in the world (possibly the biggest diplomatic failure in US and world history).
* I am the first US president in history to have a majority of the people of Europe (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and stability.
* I am the first US president in history to have the people of South Korea more threatened by the US than by their immediate neighbor, North Korea.
* I changed US policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts.
* I set the all-time record for number of administration appointees who violated US law by not selling their huge investments in corporations bidding for gov't contracts.
* I have removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any other president in US history. In a little over two years I have created the most divided country in decades, possibly the most divided that the US has been since the civil war.
* I entered office with the strongest economy in US history and in less than two years turned every single economic category heading straight down.

Korea/Viet Nam - ally with whom we had treaties;

Kuwait went to the UN asking to remove Iraq

Iraq - we signed a ceasefire with - they never lived up to the terms.

We supplied a brutal dictator with horrible chemical weapons that were banned by UN and US treaties for the purpose of brutally murdereing Iran soldiers and Iraqi civilians, inflicting the most brutal deaths since the Nazi death camps.

Sadams invasion of Kuwait was authorised by the US.
Oil prices were too low and special interests were complaining.
THen we went and "saved" Kuwait, betraying Sadam Hussein, who was operating under our authorisation.

EDIT:
Maybe you should go read the book before using it. Deciding to go to war and then using faulty info as justification is different than being misled by faulty information in order to go to war. Bush wanted to go to Irag before he got the WMD info, when he got it he used it. That means he wasnt misled into going to the war.
Just like if some jack ass tells you something you want to believe you probably will or if some stupid chain letter gets sent out to a liberal they may take it as fact.
Whatever, like anyone in this forums minds are going to be changed.

I remember a time not too long ago when communist Cuba actually had real WMDs barely 100 miles off Florida's shores. Did Kennedy immediately invade Cuba? No, he found a nonviolent means of avoiding armed conflict.

Certainly, Bush could have found a similar nonviolent answer for Iraq, but then again the world's second largest oil reserves were too tempting. All he had to do was play on public fears by claiming false Osama bin Laden and Al Quida ties to Saddam Hussein. Actually, I blame the Democrats in the House and Senate for rolling over and playing dead following 9/11, giving Bush everything he wanted on a silver platter without question. Those gutless, spineless wimps (especially Gephardt) allowed all of the senseless death and destruction that followed to happen.

All he had to do was play on public fears by claiming false Osama bin Laden and Al Quida ties to Saddam Hussein. Actually, I blame the Democrats in the House and Senate for rolling over and playing dead following 9/11, giving Bush everything he wanted on a silver platter without question. Those gutless, spineless wimps (especially Gephardt) allowed all of the senseless death and destruction that followed to happen.[/quote]

Your analogy is without merrit.

When you compare the threat of communist Cuba and the Soviet Union and their willingness to use nukes to a terror group like Al-Queda - yes.

Its not even an analogy.

Quackzilla I am a Captain in the US Army Reserves. So, yes, if need be.

Better in Iraq than in Manhattan.

Are you implying thats what the US military is doing in Iraq?

Before responding try to retain some shred of credibility and think about what you are going to say.

What the shaq-fu does that mean?! You say so yourself - Cuba and the USSR were willing to use nukes. Well, wasn't al-Qaeda ready to use WMDs? I think the analogy is VERY relevant. You just refuse to admit that Kennedy found nonviolent means vs. the war-mongers we currently have in charge.

A pithy response.

Terrorism is at worst state sponsored, at best state ignored.

Taking down Iraq represents a legitimate example to the rest of the leadership of the Arab world what they have to lose if they continue to support terrorism.

Or are you interested in continuing to respond after the fact to terrorism?

Well, I didnt make the comparison, but it is analogy, albeit flawed. My point was that you just respond to most things on here by saying "nope, you are wrong." You demand proof and evidence from others and provide none yourself. Take my advice and do what I am going to do, never open this thread again.

1. I did say Cuba and the USSR were willing to use nukes? Or did I compare the willingness? Can you read?

2. If you don't understand the difference in the methodology between how the Communists sought to dominate the world and today's terrorists...I am sorry but you have no place commenting on this subject.

3. Tell me, who are we going to negotiate with on the terrorist side to ensure they won't use WMD.

4. How long did the Cuban missle crisis go on for? A month? Iraq went on for 12 plus years.

Pre-emptive strike is another term for elective war. Did your mommy teach you to throw the first punch in grade school too?

Kennedy did not find a non-violent way to end the problem. He enacted a blockade which could have VERY easily turned into massive violence. He put on a show of force and the Soviets flinched before any shots were fired. There were diplomatic maneuverings, but those had no bearing on turning aside Soviet ships carrying materiel to Cuba.

I don't see how that situation even applies to the current events.

Soviet Union=could be reasoned with.

Radical Muslim extremists=cannot be reasoned with.

Mommy wasn't facing 3,000 dead Americans in 45 minutes.

No, I simply could care less. remember the maxim: My enemies enemy is my friend.

CTL

That maxim of course is not applicable to the current situation in Iraq. Al-Qaeda was an avowed enemy of Iraq's secular and socialist government and vice versa. Hmmm.

As I have explained numerous times. This was done as an example to the arab world, specifically the leaders, of what happens when you support or turn a blind eye to terrorism.

Taking down Afghanistan was not sufficient enough and taking down Iraq may not in the end be enough.

The maxim is more relevant to our shifting alliances with Iraq.
