How many TV DVD boxsets have you bought?

Forgive me. I'm old. I have lived a lot of my life through television, not unlike the Cable Guy (sad, huh?), so these sets tap into that facet of my life PLUS I'm a compulsive person with the need to 'collect' things, so this fits together nicely...

Recent buys/borrows

Recently I borrowed the Rocky and Bullwinkle Season ONE set and am actually loving it. Witty show no doubt, plus for $30, wow maybe a purchase.

Buys:

Flintstones Season One: Great as a collector piece, not something I could watch over and over but a worthy purchase for the packaging alone.

Jetsons Season ONE: Ditto, though I may may like this show even more.

Millennium Season ONE: Absolutely great. Not every ep... but Lance Hendrickson is an underrated GOD in training.

Scooby Doo Season ONE: May be the weakest link as far as viewing but still a true time period piece, essential to Hanna Barbera fans.

On my way to buy:

Columbo (I'm old remember?): Season ONE : For me I already know this is a slam dunk.

Still want:

Johnny Quest Season ONE

I have bought many others just didn't want to talk about all of them... some like Sanford and Son Season 3, the transfer is TERRIBLE red lines throughout many shows, may try and exchange it again...

I don't see much reason to get DVD box sets of shows that you can still see in syndacation. I just can't justify the purchase. That, and the fact I don't have much time to actually watch that much TV in the first place (I'd rather spend the free time playing games). Nevertheless, I've purchased 3 box sets in the last 3 years:

Danger Man (60's BBC series called Secret Agent Man in the US)
The Prisoner (those who have not seen this, should...)
&
Spiderman the 60's TV Series


These are 3 shows you just never see on TV anymore. Kung Fu will probably be the next purchase. I watched it as a kid with my dad when it premered and it's a classic that rarely airs anymore. "When you can snatch the pebble from my hand, you will have learned."

In a way this logic makes sense. But if you are truly interested in the show of choice there is nothing like seeing the show develop in it's entirety, often from the opening pilot. Sydication often skips around from season to season which is death for a show that thrives on continuity. Plus, the packaging, no commercials, and the extras are just enough to pull the fans in. Not to mention the value. While most movies are $15 to $20 for 90+ minutes, most TV series dvd sets are $40 for 10 times that amount.
 
I only have The Simpsons Seasons 1-4. I plan on eventually getting Buffy, Angel and any Star Trek sets I can get... those suckers are expensive...

I have the first three Simpsons seasons. That's it. Though I would like to get some Futurama at some point. (And I'll get Simpsons Season 4 for sure.)

Commentary tracks on every episode really make those sets great, IMO.

Well for me the main thing is the picture quality with DVD's. I have a 32in TV but its just a regular TV (not HD). But I have S-Video hookups and it is MUCH better watching DVD's through S-Video than watching cable broadcasts. Extra's are nice too. Also, being able to watch what you want when you want is great.
 
All I have are Volumes 1 and 2 of Family Guy and Volumes 1-3 of Futurama. I would get Star Trek and The X-Files, but they cost too much, and I would buy The Real Ghostbusters, and the 90s Spider-Man and X-Men cartoons if they ever came out on DVD.

I only had one (Chappelle Show Season 1) but I traded it for 3 games (all sealed).

On my wishlist though is Twilight Zone Collection 1-5 (the entire series.....45 disc and would cost me 438.95) and Three's Company Vol 1-2 (John Ritter was great)

Robotech Remastered Vol 1, 2, 3, 4 (thats all thats out so far). First 3 are the Macross Saga and the 4th starts the Robotech Masters (Southern Cross).

I only bought it because its reasonably priced at $20 or less per box, thats good value. I don't buy anime dvd's because the prices are horrendous. I'll take my fansubs until the prices are reasonable.

I never watched Punky when it was still on. In fact, I didn't watch much TV when I was younger at all. No transformers, no G.I. Joe, no He-Man ... fuckin' deprived, man.
