How scary is RE4?
The villagers, with them speaking Mexican, kinda freaked me out until I got used to it. Oh yeah, the fuckin' crazy bitches with chainsaws freaked me out, too.
LMAO. Right, Mexican...

It's Spanish man.

The only thing in RE4 that still gives me the creep is the big view of the lake from the top of the hill. It's especially bad when you see the shadow beneath the surface. *shudders*

What do you guys do when your inventory is full? *SPOILERS*

I just earned a new gun (the free one for the blue medallions) and I have to get rid of (sell) my regular hand gun to take it - should I? I've upped it to level 2 on everything already...

You won't be needing that regular handgun. Hell, with all the choices in arsenal you'll be presented with, you'll rarely be using a handgun of any variety.

Except, of course, the magnum for the win.

So I should sell it and take the new one?
Agreed, Silent Hill is to put it lightly, very disturbing. Can you imagine what goes through the mind of the people who create this game?
The very beginning of the first Silent Hill has to be one of the trippiest sequences of all time. I actually reset my PlayStation because I thought I really was dead. It may not be chainsaws, but a bunch of midgets with scissors chasing me and finally catching me and stabbing me to death is a scary fuckin sight.

Yes. And don't worry, should you make a mistake (it's almost impossible not to), any weapons that you sell to the merchant you can buy back from the merchant.

Don't worry, you WON'T be missing that pistol.
some of the instant death scenes can be scary, I know I was startled near the lake...
startled != scared.

!= means DNE.

I've got this on my shelf and I keep eyeing it, but I need a break. Just finished Condemned and I've never jumped/screamed/got goose bumps so many times in any other game/movie/book or any other experience as I did with Condemned. Surround sound counts for a lot of that. Anyway, I loved it all the same, and now I have Call fo Cthulu, RE4, Half Life 2, and Fatal Frame 2 all beckoning to me to scare just a little more piss outta me.

Pistols are great in many games. High accuracy and firing rate.

But RE4 has several different versions of a handgun so that the one you start with is easily discarded without regret.

Yea RE4 only had a few good scares, but I never got surprised by the chainsaw guy. I snuck around the village, and a old lady with a pitchfork saw me came up behind me( I'd thought I snuck past her) and scared the crap outta me( at that time I didn't know you could just run around killing who ever you wanted.) Another good scare was on the island I was running low on ammo (I could never get the martial arts attacks to work right) so I was waiting till the enemies would get pretty close then I'd blast em with that pistol that shoots through multiple enemies, and one of the guys dodges my bullet right when I needed a reload. I'd recomend only 3 weapons the sniper rifle, broken butterfly, and the shotgun. I know alot of people love the tmp for the larger enemies but it's really a spray and pray weapon. Most of the bosses were lame, and reminded me of that old lady from Dead Alive (a peter jackson film).

Really the times I've been scared most in a game haven't been scripted scares, it ussually happens when I think I've cleared an area and let my guard down. I don't expect any enemies and BOO!!! one pops up outta no where.
startled != scared.

but sometimes it does = scared, like in horror movie where people get scared by the atmosphere and startled which increases the scariness to a point.

Don't upgrade your weapons until you get the Red9 pistol (which I think is so much better than the Blacktail), the Striker shotgun, the semi-auto rifle, and the Broken Butterfly. Those are the best in each category, in my opinion.

The game is more startling than scary but with that said it's still worth while. One of my favorite games of this genereation.

That's good stuff. It reminds me of when I'm playing my wife, and I do something mundane like Spin Jump in SMW, and she'll get giggly and say, "Ooooh, how did you do that? Show me!".

Back to point, I'm always disappointed in an RE-type game when there's something I can't kill. Is there anything in RE4 you can't kill? I capped Ashley and the shady vendor, but I can't remember back that far. Could you shoot the dog that got caught in the trap? I can't remember. It seems like something I'd shoot, but then, with all the gun play taking place it's hard to keep track of who shot what.
