Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

With Developer mode on, you can't buy anything off the App Store.

Yeah. I won't be suprised to not get it, somewhat glad unable to process went away. I would have preferred to call earlier but w/e at this point.

Yeah. I, just, noticed that, too! Time to pay attention to these B & N comments as they've charged my card.

On a different note, I wonder if these things have a Task Manager App. That would make it easier to close pages.

REGARDING SMB

Tweets from that chick from twitter:

Those who purchased from SMB site, here is what I know. If you purchased and rec'd confirmation ystday - you are on backorder. BUT..

BrynaAtHP Bryna Corcoran
SMB store plans to fill as many of those orders as they can as soon as next batch comes in. Consider your #touchpad on reserve for now.

BrynaAtHP Bryna Corcoran
Those on SMB site who were charged higher price than $99 due to pricing error, you'll be credited to the $99 price. See $$$$$$$/qONEtg

BrynaAtHP Bryna Corcoran
If you have rec'd a confirmation. - you are considered 'next in line' when new batch of TouchPads come in.

BrynaAtHP Bryna Corcoran
If you rec'd a cancellation - sign up here to be notified when the next ones will be coming in: http://t.co/cQkzKCW

BrynaAtHP Bryna Corcoran
Regarding 'next batch' coming in.. it's called a warehouse. No more being made, but have inventory coming from ones already manufactured.

BrynaAtHP Bryna Corcoran
And no I do not know how many units are coming in from the warehouse or when. All I know is they are trying to get them here asap.#wishIknew

BrynaAtHP Bryna Corcoran
Re: SMB site: if your card was charged + rec'd order # but NO conf. email you R backrorder. Depending on inventory - fingers crossed.

BrynaAtHP Bryna Corcoran
SMB store: If you were charged + got order #, hang on 2 ur hats & hope you get one. U R backordered. More coming. BUT 1st come, 1st served.

BrynaAtHP Bryna Corcoran
SMB site: if you were charged incorrect pricing and error with shipping -- you'll be credited back. #staycoolmybabies

BrynaAtHP Bryna Corcoran
Chances R good IF 1) were charged 2) got order # email 3) sent another final confirmation email. If one of those is missing...don't hate me.

BrynaAtHP Bryna Corcoran
If one of those are missing (see prev. tweet) then you are backordered and have to hope for the best when more come in. #touchpad

BrynaAtHP Bryna Corcoran
If you were charged + got order # but NO confirmation email. Up to you if you want to cancel, but worth a shot 2 hang in there. More coming.
I'm not gonna get into an argument with you about this but selling the tablet at a 200 loss on MANUFACTURING to gain support for an OS is the height of idiocracy. If they were going that route, they'd take a little bit of a loss, but they wouldn't take this much of a loss. And they certainly wouldn't say they were getting out of the business and then say OOPS, we changed our minds!

Consoles take losses because games are $60 each. Apps are $1.

The tinfoil hat suggestions that they did this on purpose are ridiculous.
I obviously agree... That's why I said that at the end. It's just not an invalid argument completely. I had never heard of webOS until this thing happened. I LOVE my tablet now. If there were more webOS products after this, I might actually consider getting them over an iPad (assuming they were cheaper). To completely discount the possibility is ridiculous =P.

HP is not going out of business, they are just abandoning the platform. If they decided, after all this was over, that they could still make money of them, then I really wouldn't be all that surprised. I mean they are essentially going to get like another 200k+ userbase. What's extremely substantial.

In other news, one B&N order got cancelled for a single tablet, my other B&N order that was placed 20 minutes before is still pending shipment. I hope it goes through >_

You don't need a task manager. It's super, super easy. You just swipe the app/website/whatever up and off the screen and it is closed. Probably my favorite feature of the whole device ;)
Ouch, that sucks. I'd be super pissed if I just spent $500 on a $100 device.
He's screwed. NewEgg is a horrible company. He'll have to take them to court, and he'll probably lose.

I don't think people understand that HP wants to continue developing webOS. They aren't happy about this loss but it's not that big when you compare it to how much money they make on PCs, they are #1 after all. It's not like a dying company decided to give up and die, HP just figured that their tablet strategy was a POS and decide to loose the money now as opposed to dragging it out over the next 6 months.
Yeah. I won't be suprised to not get it, somewhat glad unable to process went away. I would have preferred to call earlier but w/e at this point.
Well I still have the "unable to process-call" notification on my order BUT it also says "cannot be removed" so who knows what's going on.

So is it going to be a third day of searching or do you guys think the stock is pretty much sold? I have 1 from onsale pending and one from office depot but after the BN dealio last night i am not holding my breath.

Excited to get mine! :D:bouncy:

Not if that person contacts, IMMEDIATELY, the payment processor used.

If you haven't managed to get one by now (hope OnSale comes through) your best bet would probably be to wait until HP puts some back on their site and you are quick enough to snag one

Same here with doing a return with Newegg which in my case was a faulty SATA IDE card several years ago. To call Newegg "horrible" is (to be honest) quite wrong since they often times have great deals and their customer service is good as well. I can't fault them for holding back on marking these tablets down as it is a pretty big loss for them. Not to mention the ensuring chaos they'll have once they do mark them down even if they do it via Shell Shocker (aka daily deals). At least by doing it via Shell Shocker it will give people the heads up on when they will be available at that price as opposed to just randomly marking them down.

I've got 4-5 orders in at as many places just trying to get ONE for myself and perhaps one for my g/f's folks. I'm fighting the big family buyers and Ferengis ordering multiples. Knock it off!
hey guy: go fuck yourself. I have what they call friends. You might want to look into it.
he's just mad that he hasn't gotten any yet ;). I've ordered 6, none of which will be resold. I have a very tech-heavy family who doesn't ever look for deals like this so this was a xmas jackpot. Sorry if this caused anyone to get screwed out of one, but honestly, you snooze, you lose ;)

Judging from all the "friends" you make on CAG, I seriously doubt that. But stay classy! :applause:

If your orders go through and you get more than you need, I'll buy one off of ya. I got a post in the buy/trade thread also.

Looks like I'm backordered then from the HP SMB site. I got my cc charged and I have an order #, but never got a confirmation e-mail. It just shows up when I search my account on their site.

Oh well if I don't get it. My fiance was a little irked I ordered one anyways.

I have no issues with multiples for friends and family. I have 1 already for myself but my mom, dad, and sister all want one. They do not really have the time to sit here like I do so I am trying to help them out. You won't see any extras on ebay or CL from me.

fucking KMART canceled my order. Ordered yesterday afternoon at full price and got a CSR to put in for a price change. Now I'm just hoping HP SMB backorders go through.

I don't have a problem with it, either - but I'm also not in the OMGZ... HOARDERZZZZZ!!! group and I haven't appointed myself as the voice of the moral high ground here on CAG...

BUZZZ! Wrong answer. In fact, my Amazon Lightning deal order went through just fine and should be here this week. Sorry, Charlie. Try again.

For SMB right? Cause I only got one email but I ordered via HPA.

If onSale starts doing mass cancellations of orders, people need to hammer them for poor inventory control and not knowing when to stop orders to balance out inventory.

As you're unlikely to be able to leave them negative marketplace feedback if the order gets canceled, sending them a nasty email would be about all you can do.

well by the sound of things, most people who are even trying to hoard aren't going to get their wish fulfilled.

I placed my order at OnSale very shortly after it was posted, but I'm not sure I made it within the first few hundred out of TEN THOUSAND (WTF is wrong with them? there is a quantity button on the sales page for Amazon. Idiots...).

I'm just glad I was able to get my slightly overpriced Office Depot tabs ($130 for 16 gb). If I can't get anymore, then at least I can say I tried =/

I need to remind myself to actually check the CAG deals in case a video game deal pops up...this thread makes me forget what this site is actually for. :)
For SMB right? Cause I only got one email but I ordered via HPA.
yeah i ordered via SMB. it took several hours, thousands of clicks, and a fraud alert on my credit card, so i really hope it comes through.
Someone posted on SD they bought 8 touchpads.....fucking scumbag.
What an *sshole!! I mean 30?!? I do hope CAG's boycott eBay and CL when it comes to buying this, at least in this phase, as I'm sure more will turn up down the road for da sheap.

I have noticed that discontinued items will propagate eBay and amazon for hundreds over msrp. I expect the same for this further down the road, and that may be what these d-bag flippers are hoping to cash-in on.
For SMB right? Cause I only got one email but I ordered via HPA.
I didn't even get 1 e-mail.

That site kept crashing all the time when i tried, and I finally got through to completion last night after at least 15 tries. If I look now it says my order is being processed but a CSR may contact me.
Ordered from BB.com Sunday, 7:30am. Called bestbuy to clarify what "Order in process of being fulfilled; Usually ships in null - null days" means. Ordered from BB.com Sunday, about 4:00 am PST. Current status is "Order in process of being fulfilled; usually ships in 0-1 days." I assume that my order is going to go through.

The thing with amazon (and I don't know if the professional company interface is different) is that you just put in the number you have. It's not like amazon allows buyers to overbuy. Can't the guy at onsale just have put in their actual inventory on hand when they changed the price. How could they actually f this up?

Nasty email they will get if i dont get mine this is lame i put all my eggs in this basket and if i dony get it been trying since friday

Ok, so how fucking hard is it to keep track of inventory!?!?!? HP, Kmart, B&N, OnSale, OD... it seems that the only person that can do it properly is Amazon...

I saw that. I had to laugh. With his command of the English language, I can't wait until he gets his underwater basketweaving degree and joins the workplace.

That OnSale thing is crazy... You just had to know that was going to go bad with as long as they held the order windows open...
