We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

Holy crap what an ordeal! I ended up going to the Walmart that had them in stock, but claimed they were regular price. I went back to electronics and the woman looked pissed that I even inquired about them. She defiantly pulled one from a locked drawer under the register and scanned it, and it showed $498.xx. I said "Fine, I'll just run over to the other Walmart that has them for $149."

That's when my GF stepped in and walked up to Customer Service, iPhone in hand with the online inventory pulled up. I stayed back while she asked to speak to a CSM, and after some talking, and him calling the other store to confirm they were ringing up $149. They head to the back, while I wandered around with my daughter, only to have them come back up front, with the woman claiming they don't even have any in stock.

I call bullshit and we all go back there, and I tell the CSM exactly what drawer she pulled it from. She then claims that it's not the same model HP touchpad that is discounted (like HP made anything other than 16 and 32GB). We then ask to speak to a manager, and another CSM comes back and she shakes her head before rejecting us.

Then we asked for a store/department manager. Two guys come out and both actually pretty cool. They go over the details of the price, check the model number and verify that the other store is selling them for said amount. they then gave the okay to price adjust, saying not to sell the other one because one of them wants it for himself. He also said he was taking all of the printouts just in case it comes up as to why he made a $350 price adjustment.

Long story short, we got a 32GB for $150. Moral of the story, don't piss off or try to bullshit a pregnant woman, because you won't win, even if you are Walmart. :D

VICTORY!
If the customer service rep I talked to earlier wasn't bsing, Amazon IS NOT going to lower the price.
I desperately want a tablet to read comics on and webOS does have at least one comic viewer app, so that's enough for me.
What are most of you planning to do with the tablets outside of web surfing....e-reader?
Im just keeping it around to goof around with. I really don't know why I bought it. More of a spur of the moment thing. Just hoping HP will have enough in stock to verify my order.

That's the problem. The Walmart folks that don't know anything about it are afraid to make a 300-400 dollar price error if they adjust it, and don't want to lose their job.

Hah. I could've cared less. But she's pregnant and bitchy, so I let her get some of that hormonal rage out.

Better for her to lay it onto someone other you.

Oh and my trip to Fry's was worth it. I was looking at picking up a car stereo (didn't) and decided to try and pick up a 16GB Touchpad for my brother. $100, what the hell ya know? Well they said they were shipping all of theirs back. No surprise and I walked off. The entire hour I was there looking at other items was just full of hilarity. I posted about the guy about to get into a fight with manager while I was still in store. I saw another incident related to these things.

A guy comes up to the customer service desk to pickup his 4 touchpads he bought online at full price. He was talking about getting a price match to HP's website, already had HP's website up on his phone showing the lower price. I'm sitting here thinking, that might not have been a bad idea. They go call about the pickup and I saw the CSR get a weird look on her face. The orders went through for store pickup and the guy even had a pickup confirmation printout. The guy who fills those orders must not have gotten the memo about sending them back as they were being denied by the manager. The dude flips the fuck out. I mean, it was the scariest and funniest god damn thing I've seen in my entire life. I thought he was going to kill that poor girl. Luckily the other employees in the CSR area packed in real tight with one another, big dudes up front.

They ended up having to call the cops as he was so adament about giving him what he paid for. They had already printed out confirmation of the cancellation and the returning of his funds to his credit card. He wasn't having any of that. They ended up blocking off the one entrance to the store so other customers would be in the middle of anything. It was beautiful.
They sold me a 32GB full price but the manager said the price will drop on Monday for Staples. Anyhoo, I have 14 days to price correct or send it back.
Was it the store manager? The guy I spoke with while waiting had little to no clue what was going on other than they would only price match if it was instock. I plan on going back tomorrow morning to speak with the store manager and to see if the price did drop. But I can wait till Monday too. I guess we'll see how "easy" their return policy is. Now, just to put this thing out of sight so I don't open it.
Who did you price match to?
Nobody. The store manager already knew about it and gave it to me without a fight.

Ah, now I'm remembering something from my little sojourn to Walmart in Salem, MA -

After they made a quick look into the issue, one of the guys came and cleared out the inventory.

Next thing we know, anyone can have one .... if we buy at full price.

I'm convinced these Walmart people are buying for themselves.

If Walmart has a Twitter or Facebook page, please post your displeasure with Walmart.

I went to my local hometown Wal-Mart in Minnesota. They have 7 32GB models and 3 16GB models in stock. I told the guy about the sale and he looked at me like I have no clue what I am talking about. I showed him the price cut on their own website and he went to check the price. After they both rang up at their retail price, he said they don't price match for their online price. I haven't checked other messages on here yet, but have people ran into similar situations? Just kind of strange how their own website can have the price cut, but they won't honor that.
Nobody. The store manager already knew about it and gave it to me without a fight.
Nice, somebody on SD said there was an e-mail sent out about it from corporate. I wonder if I should have waited another 30 minutes for the manager to arrive? Hmm...I may go back in later this evening.
I desperately want a tablet to read comics on and webOS does have at least one comic viewer app, so that's enough for me.
This. I've been using my Nook Color as a comic reader but the screen is on the small side. It didn't bother me enough to pay full price on a bigger tablet but it's worth the 85 I paid for a Touchpad to have the larger screen.

Well glad I made a trip out this morning, before starting this post last night , I bought one at full price at best buy . Mgr confirmed with me about pricing the difference in the morning.

Went to get refund , manager saw me and apologized for any inconvenience very nice, told him I read the policy update and asked if he could honor is word from last night. Couldnt do so, returned it with no issues. Probably about 15 people were there for same item, floor model was pulled as well, nothing of touch pad existed.

Good luck to all,

That's standard Wal-Mart policy, man. They'll tell you the same thing for a $20 movie that is $12.99 on their site. Doesn't matter what the item is.

This is the BS company line - no price matching the website - EVEN THOUGH you can order online and pickup at a store at the online price. Makes NO sense whatsoever.

That said, it seems online ordering for in-store pickup has been disabled entirely for this item. Shows up as a possibility, but when you go to actually buy it, says you can't do it. Bunch 'o crap.

I already see the asshats on craigslist trying to flip these. So hopefully more people on here can score for themselves before the hoarders get their filthy hands on them.
What are most of you planning to do with the tablets outside of web surfing....e-reader?
I was planning on using it as an ancillary display to watch video on while I'm surfing/doing other shit. It would have been real nice to pick it up and browse gamefaqs/wikis while I was playing games as well but not exactly necessary.

I'm still planning on getting a device like this eventually; I only rushed to buy this because of the steep discount. Even a 10" LCD (the sweet spot size for me) costs more than $100 and the MiMos start at $130 for a 7". Folks on craigslist around here are asking $300 for machines they clearly bought for $100 today. If I could get a 10-11" LCD for less than $100 I'd just get that instead.

If one of my fellow CAGs come through for me I will bite right away or maybe I'll go for it once they drop to $150-ish on eBay.

Both of the 32 gig units at the Carrollton KY Wal-Mart are gone. Employees, as I expected. I held one in my hand this morning, and they would not adjust the price. I'm sure it got adjusted as soon as I left.
That's the problem with SD vs CAG. Most SDers will do anything they can to fuck over their fellow person for profit, most CAGs won't.

I think this was doomed from the get go because of the mouthbreathers and neckbeards at SD.
Yeah, you're right. Sad to see. I'm going to try my local OD in a half hour and if I find an extra one, I'll get one for my local CAGs at cost.
Like I said it going to take HP a weeks to months to sort this mess. Its not like HP drop ships things to stores. Stores buy these items from middle men (I worked for one) and then they sit in wearhouse till HP gives the middle men a refund (which takes weeks or months). Then they get resold at a discount. Thats kind of why TJmax sold 200 dollar ipads last year. One of these middlemen had a crap load that Apple refused to refund so they sold them at a discount. If don't see HP selling them then expect their distributors to off load them during christmas. These would make great door busters at 49.99 and 99.99.
Great idea about the Xmas sale. This could potentially be cheaper for the ones that missed out. My order is still in "Order being veried" mode on HP's website...

any chance amazon gets to this price soon i am thinking about going to a bestbuy near my house.

this is a dumm question since HP is closing out and won't be supporting this tablet is it still worth it and can u unlock it to use android?

PISSED TO THE MAX. Went to the Best Buy in Willow Grove, PA at 10:08AM. (They open at 10) Dude said that 5 people came in before me asking for the same thing, all were denied. He told me they were sending them all back to HP. Local Walmart never sold them, while I saw them in stock everywhere in a 50 mile radius now theyre showing OOS and I'm stuck at work. I have my girlfriend on the prowl now along with a few buddies of mine to cover more area.

if anybody went to walmart this morning and got turned away, you might want to go back. the manager at ours said they didn't get the notice until around 9 - 9:30am.

i won't bore anyone with all of the details, but our walmart experience was a mess, but somehow it all worked out in the end.

so no reason to go into a bestbuy if they are not selling :D

Don't even bother going to BB as HP made them pull all their inventory off the shelves to send back.

But the possibility of someone unlocking it and putting Android on the Touchpad was one of the reasons I was thinking about buying it. I wouldn't doubt that someone will someday find a way (if they don't already know).

This is going to flood eBay big time.

The resellers will undercut each other to the point that they make a $10 profit. At which point I could foresee these dropping to as low as $160 on eBay (just a heads up for those that want these and can't find em at your local retailers). Some patience may pay off after all.

If this is true, then keep checking the HP site - they'll clear them out themselves.

Also, everyone keep pressing Amazon. Sure, someone said Amazon wasn't going to match this, but they eventually joined everyone when Logitech dumped the Revue price to $99.99. True, that wasn't a liquidation - but a 2 minute email on the issue might have success in quantity. (Then again, they may send theirs back to HP as well...which means same as above: keep checking the HP site.)

So have we tried price matching amazon? Sorry iam late to the party. Got shot down at best buy and office max, both said they were told to send them back.

My LOCAL Staples droppped the price in store and sold out half an hour ago... should have listened and checked there. :cold: GO OFFICE DEPOT GO! :hot:

I just checked craigslist and see tons where I am already too. Why the hell do these folks think people are going to want to pay these prices to them when they didn't want them before? It isn't an Ipad and most folks don't want to pay 300 bucks for them. These flippers will get stuck holding these.

Put another way, why the fuck do you think you can flip a product that only sold 10K in retail?

Not on the 32 GB model - Amazon is stocking that one.

Couldn't agree more. Which is why I hate that place. I bet you 70% of those idiots are buying multiple to resell at $20 profit.

Btw, is the mouthbreather who picked up 8 and bragging about it on CAG also a SDer?

I bought a 32GB from Staples online (Around 9:30am est) for full retail price since my car is in the shop and I don't have any other way to get around. I bought it hoping I can get a price adjustment when it arrives at the store. I figure Staples will drop the price soon. Hopefully, they honor my order since it is out of stock on Staples website now. They took the money off my CC and I got an email saying my order is being processed. Let's see what happens....
