Since everyone is asking for people to get them one when they can't find one on their own, let's try to keep the requests to this thread here:

Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

Richard Kerris
VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
whats the deal with Amazon did they sold out at full price from people hoping for a price match? Why they pull both of them at the same time.
People are hoping for the price match. they will be sorely disappointed.

Just got home from work and went to Walmart this morning at 8:00 before work. There were 9 of the 32GB ones in the case and two guys before me bought 3 and 2 each. So my wife and I got one each and that left 2 there. They went from 9 in stock to 2 in a matter of minutes. Of course they are OOS by now. But I am charging the unit as I speak and am thrilled I happened to check CAG this morning and saw this. THANKS!

Even though someone pointed out that the list price has been updated on the product pages on Amazon...I've seen it come back in stock three times and the price was not updated when it was available and sold by Amazon.

Gambling in buying at the prices of yesterday and hoping for a price match.

I'm betting Amazon is waiting to limit purchases to one per household...Same for Newegg.
with best buy sending all their stock back....they hp website should have plenty in stock over the next couple of days...

I have got to say, that I find it rather odd that when this product was $100 less than the competition that it was undesirable, lacked features, lacked apps, lacked ports etc. Now that they are practically giving them away and HP has said they are dropping support for the tablet and all webos devices that now it's the must have item.
Not odd at all - very similar to the Logitech Revue situation, actually. The Revue (a GoogleTV device) was released at $299.99, then dropped to $249.99 - and it still didn't sell. Dropped to $99.99 and it went out of stock everywhere. It's a fairly competent, interesting and useful piece of home equipment (DLNA streaming, Amazon VOD, web browser on TV, Netflix and a few other things), but not worth the original asking price. At $99.99, it's a steal and well worth it.

What we've got here is a competent tablet, made by a reputable company, that is perfect for email, as an e-book reader, for watching videos, browsing the web and no-doubt a few other impressive things. Engadget rated it a 7/10, which can't be ALL bad (recommend you read the review if you're at all interested), and that was at the original price point. Now we're at that $149.99/$99.99 threshold, which is pretty much the perfect price for a buying frenzy on this type of product. Probably an excellent device for hacking as well.

WHAT! Tell me more!

They're the second CAG to state they bought one at Best buy within the last hour...
Maybe BestBuy worked out a better credit for selling them at discount.
when was this? They said not to sell it, they changed their mind?
my local one said that they got an email to sell them but at full price and said they would not be bringing prices down or matching prices in the future or honor even if they did.

I did read three days ago that best buy was stuck with 200k units and were mad as heck at HP that they couldn't sell them..they started the ball rolling and all the other retailers jumped on board and now here we are.

Nice try. Not falling for it
Yeah I would like to know if they have had a change of heart
Website does not even post them anymore and just has the link to the webpage explaining the extended return window.

Wow, now I'm pissed! I was at Wal-Mart at 9:00 a.m. and they didn't have them marked down. Just called them and said they were sold out by 11 a.m. I sure hope I can snag one off Amazon or get my order to go through on their small business website.

I wish best buy would release their stock. By the looks of it they wouldn't have any trouble selling them out at this price. I can't believe they would be taking a hit because HP is subsidizing these.

I can get the touchpad into my cart on hp's small buisness site but I can't seem to get past the checkout page. I've had a pre since it was first released and love webos, I really wanted one of these when they first released but I Was afraid of lack of support. I was worried about apps not getting made, not HP dropping it!

stopped at my best buy, they only had the 32gb for $150, so I passed.

got one 32gb at office depot in pittsburgh. i ordered last night around 3 am, with instore pick up and used cash. when i called this morning they said "the system didnt drop the price, but come in and pick it up price will be 149.00" its pretty slick GF loves it!!

Must have been why I got mine...last one at WalMart...would've gotten a second one for the wife if the damn neighbor hadn't held me up for 15 minutes.

I got there at 11ish and a lady was waiting a the glass cage to pick three up...I exclaimed "You're buying three? You're not reselling those are you. You couldn't at least let me buy one?" She obliged and stated hey were Christmas gifts and that she would get her sister something else...felt like an ass but accepted her kindness. Clerk opened up the glass cage and there was four...she was still able to get her three and I got the last one. Two individuals arrived after me and wanted one within 3 minutes of getting to the glass cage and paying for mine.

After playing with it awhile, I'd like to pick up a 16gb for the wife...damned if I just didn't spend $250 on perfume for her this week though :(
Nice try. Not falling for it
Way to be a dick. It's not like I said "bought 4 at Best Buy, sucks that no one got it" I posted once I got home saying I picked one up just as they got the email, so 15 or so minutes before my post I was in the Best Buy buying one. They had them all on a hand cart with all the accessories and said that I was not allowed to return it or buy a protection plan on it. I tried to buy one for me and one for my father but they said one per customer and employees were also allowed to buy them. It was in Holmdel, NJ. Need anymore info?

Anyone who thinks you live in BFE, you don't unless you are my neighbor. No Walmart within 60 miles of me even sells computers of any sort, there are only 2 best buys, both of which might be a little more than 60 miles away, which didn't even have any in stock to begin with, let alone to have already sold out, the only staples within that distance didn't have any to begin with (I have a friend that works there, so I know that it's true), and there are no other places that sell any sort of computing device (outside of pawn shops) within that distance.

I've been waiting for a super crazy drop like this to to buy my girlfriend one, since she's been wanting a tablet for a few months now.

I'm on the HP Small & Medium Business site. There seems to be no way to order the Touchpad because there is no add to cart option. The only options are contract pricing and find a reseller.

My friend just sent me a text stating she was on hold for two and a half hours to get one. With whom I have no idea. Nor do I care....this is madness.
Has anyone purchased from costco? Did they change their price?
my costco said they're not dropping prices, but i've read about others who have had success. YMMV i guess.

Picked up a 16gb at the Walmart in Midland mi this morning. Their price hadnt changed. I convinced them to price match their site. I was working midnights and was following the deal all night. Lol. Tried placing several orders online and no luck...but I think i was one of the lucky few...

To the people that bought them and have spent some time with it so far,I was wondering if you can let me know if it has an expandable sd/micro sd card slot?
Sorry if this was mentioned before but the specs I've been reading don't say much.

Nope, its got a weird usb plug, home btn, power and volume. Thats it. I didnt want to push my luck this morn and ask for the 32gb as the cashier kept saying $99....lol. I didnt want to be like, no! The $149 one is what i want! I just went with the flow...lol

Hooray, my 16GB one has been processed! Now only the 32GB one is being verified. I just have to decide which one to keep and which one to give to my parents. They're just thrilled they don't have to go running around for it; apparently they sold out everywhere for miles.

Ok thank you for the reply,I guess I'll find out when I get mine on Wed.

Yeah, I was just at costco and they don't have it but she showed me all other store that have it, along with the price. The current price right now it $479.99, I wonder if they're going to follow Hp, if not their return policy is very wonderful.

I just ordered mine through the HP site, and my 16GB just got processed. What an ordeal! I must have refreshed and reentered my information 150 times before it finally quit timing out. Now, to wait for the inevitable canceled email from HP... Any one trying to go that route, you just got to be patient and just keep trying.

it's for an sim card on their planned later models, on this model it's just an empty slot for nothing
