Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

woooo hoooo. 32gb 149.99 at BB. JUST 5 minutes before they got a memo from corporate saying they could sell them at the prices. Also there are NO RETURNS on these. ALSO they have 4 different accessories. If you purchase all 4 you get 20% off on them...not really too much of a deal but oh well.

Got my order in for store pick-up. But I've been reading that some stores that are listed to have them in stock are in fact out of them. If I placed an order for pick-up and it turns out that they do not in fact have them in stock, does BB just cancel the order or do they have the item shipped to the store?
Like confoosius says, you'd be screwed. Order canceled. Kaput.

Worst is when they say it's ready for pickup, but it's mysteriously NOT THERE when you arrive - AND they're sold out. Funny how that happens so frequently...

That's only if ordered at discount pricing...not price adjustment.

Too bad Best Buy made up their minds so damn late or I could have just drove and got one for my brother today. No, they had to be a pain in the ass about it all.
at what price?
They are still showing the higher prices. Probably just putting an order in to try and guarantee stock and then do a price adjustment on site tomorrow.

fu!!!!!!! missed this 3 times, all these stores sold out right now and said they never had any in the morning. bullshit, some people are so damn fast its crazy, mr. or ms. no clue about technology suddenly appears at the store.

I think I'm screwed, I'm waiting for the confirmation email from BB saying my GD tablet is ready for pick-up, I called the store and they told me they are all out...any suggestions folks?

And it looks like the BB doesn't allow the items to be shipped.

Same here. I was just wondering if he found another link or something.

Folks in Central Ohio, Grove City should be stocked with 16 and 32gb models tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, I just moved away from there
Purchased 2 on BBY's website...16GB and 32GB. Waiting on confirmation to pick them up.
I take it you paid full price, hoping for the adjustment, no?

Am not willing to let BB put a hold on my card for this much, so I'll roll the dice on them dropping their online price. MAYBE venture out in the early AM.

Do NOT like how every retailer is dragging their knuckles on this - why, why so slow?

Also, considering they have the 32GB model near me, but not the 16GB, and my wife and I both want one but I handle the buying duties (and only 1 SKU per person), I'll have to go for In-Store pickup for one of them back in Los Angeles. I'm positive I'll get a "Ready for Pickup" email, and I'm equally sure it won't be there when I go to get it. And yet I'll let BB jerk me around in hopes that it'll eventually bring a happy ending.
Original prices, but they cancelled it just now.
If they are cancelling all in-store pickup orders for these I'll probably not bother. I'm too damn lazy and I actually don't care enough about getting one for my brother that I'll drive down there at 4AM, which is what it'll probably require.

I brought a print out of the BB forum post stating the pricedrop at Best Buy for this and how its effective immediately, but the customer service rep at the store told me to come in in the morning. I'm sure the employees will buy them all.

Yep. I went back to try another store and about 3/4ths of the stores that were labeled "Available" are now reading "Ships to Store," which is code for "We don't have it."

South Lindbergh best buy in st Louis is sold out already. The guy said they sold out in 5 minutes.

He was looking kind of shady so I don't know if the employees were holding some back or what. Kind of sucks, but I don't think I'm going to be able to get my hands on one of these.

I was thinking about trying to buy one of these but meh. Ill be headed to the gym at 7am tomorrow, Best Buy is on the way there so im curious to see how many people line up to get these.

posting using my touchpad now, pretty fast and responsive. Def need a case for it but make sure you do an OS update as there is one available. If I cant cancel my order I'll sell one of the others. Hoping I can so I can buy one tomorrow morning for my wife

So.. is it worth it to actually venture into the store and buy it or will they give you sh*t for it? Should I print out some sort of ad to try and convince them? I hate how this has turned into a huge YMMV when it should be reflected the same everywhere.
Kmart online still has both versions, however they are at the old price. I bought one in hopes of a refund once the price change happens with them. Does anyone know what Kmarts policy is on this, i.e. can I go in store and get the refund?
I can tell you this much. I spoke to sears (which is who you get if you call the kmart order help number) and they said they had received numerous calls and would be updating the site pending their receipt of information on the "closeout item". She said the price would either be reduced or it would be changed to "out of stock" and they simply wouldn't be selling it any longer. About an hour later, it went out of stock. The price never changed.

If anyone has an extra that they bought for a CAG or something I would like to get one for my nephew. He doesn't mind paying a little extra for either model. Let me know if anyone has one and he will buy one.

If you're looking for just a sleeve for it, the iPad's work perfectly. I picked one up from Goodwill for $3, leftover Target clearance.

my bbuy opens at 10. i think that might be bad news. all the employees are probably gonna buy them. the last hope is newegg.
Just got a best buy in store confirmation now waiting for the price adjustment
What was the time stamp of your initial order confirmation email?

Due to HP’s decision to discontinue its TouchPad product, Best Buy will now provide clearance pricing for all HP TouchPad models regardless of previously advertised prices or promotions.

The new pricing will be as follows:

 • HP TouchPad 16GB (SKU 2842056) $99.99
 • HP TouchPad 32GB (SKU 2842092) $149.99
There is a strict limit of one of each hardware SKU unit per customer.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I purchase a HP TouchPad at a Best Buy store or on BestBuy.com?
Yes. Best Buy stores will be selling their remaining inventory of the HP TouchPad at the discounted clearance pricing effective immediately. BestBuy.com may have limited inventory available.

If I purchase a HP TouchPad at the discounted clearance pricing, can I return or exchange it?
No. Best Buy will not accept customer returns or exchanges on clearance-priced TouchPads bought through any Best Buy channel (including Best Buy stores or BestBuy.com).

If I purchase or have purchased a HP TouchPad at Best Buy at the clearance pricing do I have a manufacturer’s warranty?
Yes. Customers purchasing a TouchPad at clearance pricing will have a one-year manufacturer’s warranty, fulfilled directly through HP not Best Buy.

If I previously purchase a HP TouchPad at a higher price can I receive a price match?
Yes. Customers who purchased the 16 or 32 GB TouchPad after June 19, 2011 may come into the store to get a refund of the difference between the price they paid and the clearance price. If this item was purchased on BestBuy.com, please call BestBuy.com support at 888BestBuy (888-237-8289) for the price match request.

If I purchased the HP TouchPad previous to August 20, 2011 can I return it?
Yes. Customers who purchased the 16 or 32 GB TouchPad after June 19, 2011 may come into the store to get a full refund within our return policy.

Quantities are strictly limited. Limit one (1) per customer. Best Buy cannot guarantee availability of inventory at this pricing at any particular Best Buy location or channel.

^ i informed my best buy of this post and they basically said we arent selling them at least for today. sigh, something tells me they will buy them all.
Yup, saw that - but does BB charge full price once an order for in-store pickup is placed or only upon pickup?

Anyone know?

East coast stores are closed...thank goodness, might have a chance here on vacation.
At the time of the order. :(

I think most stores open up at 11am tomorrow morning (Sunday) I'm in the east coast btw. I'm hoping it's not gonna be one of those things where the employees just buy everything up like greedy little elves. I'd love to get my hands on one. Good chance to finally use some of that BB gift card credit I've got weighing my wallet down.
^ i informed my best buy of this post and they basically said we arent selling them at least for today. sigh, something tells me they will buy them all.
I'm getting the same feeling. Normally, I'd get a pick up email by now(its been over an hour). I think the BB employees are doing some early xmas shopping.

Would you only receive an order pick-up confirmation if the store is open to fulfill it, or is it an auto inventory check system of sorts.

Ok I just got back.

I called them and told them about the in store pickup. They said they would hold 1 for me till tomorrow but I had an hour so I went right away. I got the 32GB one for $157 after taxes. Tried to get another for my sister but no go. I could definitely tell the employees were going to buy them at the end of the shift. I also preorder Deus Ex since I was there and the girl at the checkout was talking about buying them. They are saying only 1 per customer and the price won't be in effect till tomorrow. NO RETURNS! Do not try to buy if you easily have buyer's remorse.
That's only if ordered at discount pricing...not price adjustment.
haha sorry I should have been more clear. I can confirm that this was going on at my local BB when I was there 10 minutes ago. I bought mine and they rang up 500 but everyone was told to adjust it to 100 and 150. so Im not sure which BB are doing it. The 4 accessories are:

1. screen protector 29.99
2. keyboard 69.99
3. dock 79.99
4. case 49.99

AKA...eff in store pickup. GO TO YOUR LOCAL AND SEE IF THEY HAVE THEM NOW.
hmm, best shot might be ebay, all the re-sellers start competing with each other. If a 16gb fell to 175-ish I would jump on it
Shit, you could get one for 75-80 if the resellers panic.
