We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
7 people ahead of me in line at my best buy. This store better have at least 8 pads in stock. lol
What part of ohio are you in? Still have about 1hr 1/2
exigent circumstances, pick it up ASAP or they'll try and give it away. Fire Sale Rules, after all.
If you really want one of these there's no way I would wait until tomorrow.
Tickle Me Elmo 2K11, apparently...
Except that hopefully with all of the press this fire sale has received people will be less likely to buy these at gouged prices from the fuckin' resellers on eBay/Half/Amazon.

So it says on hps website that they are unable to process my order and that i need to call customer service.

The one question I have is just making sure that I wont be charged for this order at all right?
Was able to order a 32 gig from hp this morning, but it crashed like 10 times in the process. Couldn't confirm the coupon code, so I'm going to email their CS to apply it. Their site is just getting raped.
yeah same... i see that my credit card has been charged but i havent gotten any sort of confirmation email... crossing my fingers

Curious what would have happened if these went for $199/$249 instead. I'll bet HP could have lightened their losses and still have sold through. Probably a little less insane, too.

Just gonna sit on the HP list from now on. If I wasn't on vacation, I'd have probably been awake when BB went live (the most recent time, that is). But I don't trust 'em.

Gotta say that this was handled deplorably by many retailers, starting with Walmart and BB - how many people went in to pick up in-store at Walmart only to be told they didn't match the online price? Hours (or minutes) later, they were out of stock. And how many folks had perfectly valid online orders canceled by BB? Not to mention BB's flip-flop on "we're sending back to HP," thus turning many people away, and then opening their arms again later that same day.

HP probably got a lot of love for this crazy liquidation. Except for the lucky few, Walmart and BB created even more resentment.
they dont use tablets either, they use the boomboxes strapped to their shoulders
Damn, even better. I could alert my neighbors that I'm approaching at full speed. I think I'll output the sound from the tablet into the boombox as the boombox I have does not play mp3s, and I don't have a tape recorder.
I also placed an order for a 16GB just in case the In Store Pick-Up option didn't pan out. Well the 16GB is now no longer able to be cancelled. I'll now have an extra 16GB touchpad if none of my family members are interested in it. If anyone is still looking for one in a couple of days feel free to PM me with an offer.
I love how so many people "accidentally" ordered an extra 2 or 3 of these and are now forced into flipping them for profit.
Ordered brom bb.com this morning. Heres to hoping they drop the prices on accessories as well. Thanks OP CAG for stying on top of this. Was a pleasant surprise this morning to see that BB decided to sell
hope they do
I love how so many people "accidentally" ordered an extra 2 or 3 of these and are now forced into flipping them for profit.
If I were looking for profit alone I think ebay or craigslist would have been my first choice. I wasn't confident that the In Store Pick Up was going to work so I placed one more order. The other one will most likely go to my mom or sister, but if not I'll try to help another CAG out, or someone from Goozex.
Except that hopefully with all of the press this fire sale has received people will be less likely to buy these at gouged prices from the fuckin' resellers on eBay/Half/Amazon.
Right now that's not the case; some are selling for 200+. That being said, a massive drop will naturally occur mid-week or so...

I hope that doesn't include Premier Silver members who automatically get free shipping with BestBuy.com orders. I ordered a 32GB Touchpad this morning
Somebody in SD said that those with free shipping will have their orders canceled. Just throwing that out there to add to the drama.
Already have a 32 gig in hand, but wanted a 16 gig for my sister. Best buy at 4am-ish had some and i ordered one for in store pickup, then an hour later got not avail in store message and to call to get one shipped. I wait 55 min on phone and she basically tells me its canceled, not to even bother arguing, not going to help and to just give up. I told her NOT to cancel the order and that i will try back again but she was quite pissed. Going to try again soon.
The re-sale eBay market is going to be so saturated I assume you will be able to get them for $40 eventually.
I hope all of the resellers get screwed like that but demand is huge so if nothing else they'll get their money back.
Right now that's not the case; some are selling for 200+. That being said, a massive drop will naturally occur mid-week or so...
Any figures on how many units HP manufactured? They could be getting a boatload back and have plentiful supply. Won't last long, but it should even prices out significantly. Isn't Amazon getting some more supply soon, too?
I hope all of the resellers get screwed like that but demand is huge so if nothing else they'll get their money back.
I agree, I don't think you'll get them less than 100 but the 16gb is already almost down to 200. I'm keeping an if it drops below 175 I might grab one. My uncle is trying to hook me up. I'm hoping he can snag one but doubting it
I hope all of the resellers get screwed like that but demand is huge so if nothing else they'll get their money back.
Lol at most the prices will come down. Because Selling the 16 gig at nearly $300 is outrageous. I could understand $200-230 max if you want a profit but some people just get out of control with the their pricing
exigent circumstances, pick it up ASAP or they'll try and give it away. Fire Sale Rules, after all.
What if I call and threaten that if they sell mine, I'll kill them all?

But really, if they DID sell it, what would happen then? Would I have to wait for them to be restocked? I thought BB was sending all their stock back to HP, but then this happens so I assume when they run out of stock they run out for good. In which case, I guess my order would be canceled?

That's because people are lazy fuckin' idiots who don't wanna expend half an ounce of effort to try and get this deal for themselves and save almost $100(if buying the 16gb model).

But again, without those lazy idiots eBay would be a shadow of what it is today.;)

Anyone think stores will refuse to sell them this morning? I had a csr actually say to me yesterday "we're not selling them to customers."
Anyone think stores will refuse to sell them this morning? I had a csr actually say to me yesterday "we're not selling them to customers."
They changed their tune late last night I believe, with some on the west coast able to buy in store. Stock available now is most likely going to those who made in store pick-up orders early this morning. It may be worth a shot to try and find one though.

Has anyone who placed an order from bestbuy.com this morning, and shipped it to their house, gotten anything other than "in process"?
"Your Order Is Ready For Store Pickup"...off to BB.
Mine still says "In Process".......

The ebay market will be interesting on this one. Supply and demand. The demand is higher than the supply right now, because of the price. However, the ebay price of $250-300 for the 32gb tablet is still a better deal than the competition. HP has a 1 year manufacturer warranty, and with the possibility of Droid porting over, these may very well hold their value after the initial saturation.

Half an ounce of effort? You know how much fucking effort it's been for some people even on this thread?

I love how you think everyone is lazy just because they have a different price point that you do. I can understand if you paid $60 on ebay for a game that's readily available at every retailer for $40. That's lazy. But some people don't want to monitor slickdeals or cag or bb.com every minute trying to buy the touchpad for $100. What about the CAGs who bought from datavis for $125? Are they fucking lazy too? Of course not. They just figured that paying $25 is more than worth their time running around or hawking websites.

So STFU already about people being lazy just cause they have better things to do.
Has anyone who placed an order from bestbuy.com this morning, and shipped it to their house, gotten anything other than "in process"?
Mine is still "In Process" also. If you click on the order number and it says "Item can't be cancelled" next to the item image, its pretty safe to assume your order will go through. That is what mine has now.
indeed

Best Buy is NOT taking any returns.

umm yeah
However, those who ordered up yesterday or today can not have second thoughts.
That's not what I get from the FAQ.

"All HP TouchPads sold at the discounted clearance pricing are final sales and may not be returned/exchanged for any reason."

So a TouchPad purchased before Saturday, or even Saturday but at the previous price point, should be eligibile for return.

Who knows, though. BB was denying price adjustments on previously purchased units just yesterday, so this whole thing is a fiasco.
My hp order from friday finally got a conformation so I am happy. :)
I got my confirmation this morning from the SMB store...and now when I check on my status, it's says there was never an order placed. Now I'm a bit worried.

"Lazy"? This might be a hard concept for you to grasp, but for some people, their free time is worth much more than paying a measly extra $100.

Android not Droid.
Half an ounce of effort? You know how much fucking effort it's been for some people even on this thread?
I know cuz I've been here since last night save for 30 minutes when I went to go watch some tv this morning.;) I'm also likely getting ready to head to the closest BB store to me in about 50 minutes to see if they have any of the 16gb ones in stock there.

If they do, then I'll buy one at the store and likely just sell the one that's still processing on BB.com(IF it ships) to a fellow CAG for cost($105.99) plus Priority Mail flat rate box shipping with signature confirmation for like $120 or so.

Does anybody have any idea if my hp order is still active/going to be honored at some point down the road?

All it says was that "they were unable to process my order".

Sorry for sort of reposting this, but I just have no idea if it means that they will at some point process my order or if it has been cancelled. That way I know if I can have a normal life again

fuck it. I guess I'm going to run out to BB this morning just to see if they;re in stock. I gotta pick up dog food at PetSmart right beside BB, anyway. That'll be my last shot at this, anyway. I'll just buy another cheap laptop for myself if I can't get one.

I am a fellow cag! sell to me! lol.

actually, I have an HP order that I was charged for, but no confirmation... I think it will end up cancelled.

Going to try to hit up best buy at 11 and see what they have. Not expecting anything, but im going that way anyways.

Something tells me all this effort will end up wasted.
btw, did anything happen overnight with Amazon?
Nope, Amazon was oddly absent on this deal, besides price matching their own orders. Ever since then they pulled their listing and it has only been second hand sellers listed.

I was up all night watching this deal here and on SD, and playing Crysis 2. The HP store was unreliable all night, people saying they were refreshing over and over again. I never threw my hat into that. Office Depot had them available to order, but it put you immediately on backorder. Then BB went live for ordering a little before 7 am eastern time.

I ordered mine from hp.com Friday at 8 and it says it's being processed. But with no order confirmation I'm still nervous.
Then BB went live for ordering a little before 7 am eastern time.
And wouldn't you know that last night is the first night since he was BORN that my 3 year old has slept past 7 AM? FML.

Prices seem to be going down gradually on eBay. For me, i was out all day yesterday getting the wife new tires, no time to get this deal. Will try BB at 11am, if nothing, then I wait until eBay prices go a little lower or not buy it altogether.
