Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
You're willing to bet on something that's not provable? ok

I think you're failing to see that the people who bought this don't really care about what you just said. It's not like this is a Sylvania tablet. It got decent enough reviews, even if it doesn't stack up to the ipad.

The people that will primarily use this for web and email don't care if the latest apps aren't on it next year. I assume the browser won't mysteriously break. Or the email client will not refuse to send more email. The people who actually care about having the latest version of their favorite tweet app will have long installed android to it.

For those going the Sears or kmart route, make sure you don't order from a 3rd party (i think on sears, maybe on kmart). They have a marketplace like amazon's. And they're not gonna price match those.
You know one of the unsung parts about this tablet is that in terms of specs its one of the top ones available right now. It has 1 gb ram and a 1.2 gig dual core processor. In comparison the iPad 2 has 512mb ram and a 1 gig dual core. The top Android tablets (Asus Transformer and Samsung Galaxy) are similar in that they have 1 gig dual core processors but have the 1 gb ram.

Sure, it might only have a few hundred Apps but when you look down at your Android, or iPhone, ask yourself when the last time is you downloaded a new App or spent some time looking at what Apps are available? Myself? I bought an HTC Evo 3d 2 months ago and have downloaded less than a dozen apps for it, and aside from checking what Amazon's free app is about once a day, I'm almost never checking to see what new apps are available.

The Touchpad surfs the internet, can be used as a reader of almost all file types, and has various other productivity uses. For me? That's all I need. HP could shut down the WebOS tomorrow store tomorrow and I'd be disappointed that there's no possibility of new apps but the thing is already doing exactly what I wanted out of it.
Got the same email, I'm guessing that doesn't bode well for the device shipping
I have not received that email yet. What time did you actually place the order? Does it give you any additional information within your profile? Mine still says delivered between August 26-30.
It's hard to go wrong at $100. But , people, before rewarding the resellers charging twice that please ask yourself if you need one of these, if you want one of these to use, or if you just want it because everyone is going crazy trying to get them.
I most definitely want one to use. I've been in the market for an affordable e-reader and digital comic reader (homebrew app) for quite some time, and I can use the productivity functions in the business end of my stage work. I loooooove WebOS, and am actually quite sad at the cancellation of the devices.

And man...that HP Pre3 was shaping up to be quite the sexy little multi-tasker...

I kind of wish this thread would get moved to Other Deals 7 Request. Doesn't really seem to fit in with gaming, but eh, who I'm I to nag.

I have a question for those of you who were dealing with the HP SMB website with all of the error messages it gave.

I finally got through to the processing part of it, entered all my information, CC info, etc, and when I get to the review and confirm page it says to click submit to confirm the order. I click submit and the next page doesn't load, it's just a blank page with no message whatsoever. I clicked back and I clicked it again and the same thing. No email has been sent confirming the order, nothing. At this point I'm not sure if I should keep trying, or stop. I don't want them to submit the order more than once but I'm worried the blank page is just an error where it doesn't submit at all. So confused.. any ideas here?

Oh and how come the "SAVE30HP" and "SAVE15HP" codes aren't working for it?
They are living in a fantasy land. A 33% profit is great. Once the reselling market really starts to take off they will be begging for 150.00 for a sixteen gig. Their short sighted greed will cost them. The big thing this item has is price. Screw with that and you have nothing. Just my two cents.
Exactly. It's Economics 101 with supply and demand. Demand is high right now with supply being unchanged (units were not taken away from the market, but units were not pumped in either making it unchanged) but that's only in the short term. Once demand dies down and the supply increases on open markets like eBay, CL, Amazon Marketplace, etc, the price will go down as well. Most of these resellers will end up selling the remaining units at cost, if not at a very, very small profit, in the coming weeks. What people need to do as consumers is wait. That's all. Remember they have merchandise they need to unload. Every day that goes by without a sale means the less it's worth.

Through Hp's EPP, Ordered one 32gb w/ recycled paper on 8/19 @ 9:53PM using HP EPP code 2727, with 30 off 150 code.

Just got email confirmation about 15 minutes ago, they charged my card yesterday 8/20 and also changed my order to item being processed.

email stated: "Your order number is XXXXXXXXXXXXXX. Your chosen delivery method is Standard 5-7 Business Days and we will send you tracking information once your order ships."

now to look for a cheap case... and screen protector lol
I knew this was going to happen...

Got a order cancellation e-mail from HP today. And now I have missed most of my opportunities to get one elsewhere. I did get two confirmations for 16GB though. I ordered 16GBs for me and my mom and a 32GB for my fiance. The 32GB (with paper filler) got cancelled. All were ordered when HP.com had them in stock using an .edu account.
When did you place the orders?

KMART FTW!! Just got of the phone with a CSR, I had placed an order for a16gb yesterday, and earlier today a chat rep said nothing could be done as it was out of stock and not able to price adjust. I ordered one of the 32gb today when they became availible and called this time instead of chat. The rep said they would def give me a price adjust for $99 on the 16gb I ordered yesterday, YES! This is a new change of tune than what they told me earlier. Then she went ahead got and submitted my price adjust on the 32gb!, Sweet! Now should I cancel my orders from HP SMB....
I was lucky to sneak in an order @ 7:10am at BestBuy for the 16GB.
Did you get a confirmation email, stating that your order is fulfilled and ready to be shipped yet? I got my confirmation email about my order being processed around 8:13am this morning and my card was charged but I was wondering if there was another email to watch out for.
And, BAMMMM!!!!!!!!!! Thank Nagasami for your wish and jump on that ASAP!!!!!!!!!! Free shipping, as well!!!!!!!!:D:applause:
Right after I post OOS too...oh well.

Got the confirmation e-mail from HP on the 32GB @ $134.75 with the paper filler. I ordered it on Friday night. I was seriously considering spending anywhere from $400 to $600 on a tablet....glad I didn't.

Finally got an order confirmation email from my HP education site order from Friday (32GB + paper + coupon). The email status column says "confirmed" for both the paper and TouchPad, and the website status still says "item being processed." I got free shipping, so I'm not out of the home-free yet, but a lot more hopeful.

I called my parents who are overseas and told them about the firesale so they can see if the base exchange is also doing the sale (assuming they even carried the TouchPad). My dad, who normally is very disapproving of my free spending on random gadgets, pretty eagerly said "buy me one!" So I've been casually hunting for another one this weekend, winding up with dead ends with the leads I've tried.

I think you can count me in as one of the disrespected Best Buy in-store pickup customers. I managed to get in an in-store pickup order for a tablet at ~10:30pm (eastern) last night. Traditionally for orders I've placed after working hours, I've received "ready for pickup" notification emails before the store opened the next morning. When I was getting ready for church this morning, I thought it was strange that neither a "we've got one" or a "we're out of stock" email was waiting in my inbox. 11am--store opening-- came and went with no email. After church, I see I received an out of stock email time-stamped 12:09--an hour after opening (and about two hours after I would have expected such an email).

I suspected that maybe they'd neglected to pull aside in-store pickup orders before selling to walk-ins. That said, I don't know what their stock situation was (though it was obviously marked as available at the time of ordering) or if there were other orders placed ahead of me that managed to get fulfilled. I also don't know if there was in fact a line at the store at opening, since I didn't think I'd need to check.

I called the customer service line to A) check if they could ship me one (which I didn't reasonably expect to happen--and didn't) and B) file my thoughts on record. My CS rep heard from his supervisor that there were in fact stories of in-store pickup orders being ignored in favor of walk-ins but could not confirm if that was what happened at my particular store.

I requested a follow-up call, at which I'll hopefully have a definite answer of what happened today (inconsequential but to salve my curiosity) and to request that in-store pickup orders and pre-orders be handled more consistently. (I've had at least one situation where I pre-ordered a game and it wasn't already waiting at the CS counter.)

If you were in a similar situation as me (and it looks like at least a couple others on this thread were) and can be bothered to sit on hold on the CS phoneline, you'll probably wind up with a token credit for a future purchase (nothing major, but I won't disclose specifics).

The dual core processor can be OC'd to 1.7ghz stable android Honeycomb is being ported over to the tablet meaning the hundreds of thousands of apps will work on the device.
idgaf this is the best tablet of all time (at this price....)

After hours of trying on HP SMB site, finally got a 32 GB through at about 3 AM PST. So far I have not received confirmation of any kind other than the fact that my card has been authorized for the total amount already. Did this happen for anyone else? Also, no filler or coupon codes but did have free shipping.

I tried to get it through the HP SMB site but was about to be charged an insane amount for shipping, so I didn't go through with the next step. Hopefully I can get lucky and get one soon.

Just got done with chat on KMart!

Have been refreshing the same order for 3+ hours now on HP Small Business. Order finally went through, crossing our fingers we get 3 ( for an actual small business). Not really expecting it to go through and sure it will be cancelled but you never know...

Crossing fingers? Lol or the refreshing? Did for me, took forever, confirmation number and pending charge on the card already.

Still thinking it'll get cancelled. : sigh:

Sorry lol I was replying to the guy that posted up a link of the 99$ one. 2 minutes after he posted it the link wasn't working. Figures..

As for the refreshing, it worked for me up to the submit screen but afterwards everytime I would click submit it would just go to a blank white page and not do anything. I just gave up.. if HP restocks this thing by the end of the week or if newegg hits the now-retail price with it I might get one but otherwise it's not worth the effort.
