We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

Congrats. My local BBs are show "unavailable" and even if they were in-stock, meeting/training from 10:30-12:30 today. fuck.
Anybody get an update from HP small business lately? I placed an order early Sunday morning (6 am), got a confirmation number and the followup e-mail, but nothing else yet.
Im on the same boat. Not much I can do anyway so im playing the waiting game. Hopefully it ships, this is my only chance to get one. Im on business trip till Monday, so no computer to check HP website, and I doubt my phone is fast enough to get an order in even if they came back in stock.
Has best buy instituted some sort of purchase limit? Mine has some touchpads but I live in a populated area and don't want to waste my time if people are only limited by their credit.
If any of us can get more than one we should try and sell them at the same price and help each other out!

Personally I'm not looking to make a quick buck and be greedy. We should all help each other out in this time of need! Unfortunately doesn't seem like I'll even be able to get one.
I can't even see on the BB website to check my local store inventory. All it says is SOLD OUT ONLINE.
Check the first post of this thread, the links are there.

My OnSale order was cancelled (ordered only one). I'll be posting feedback once the option is available (I don't see the cancelled order showing up at all under Rate Seller section). It took them THREE days to cancel the order, which by then I missed the TigerDirect opportunity :whistle2:( My only hope is CostCentral order now. If they cancel on me as well, then I'll just wait for another opportunity, I refuse to pay more than $120 for the 16gb (brand new of course).

Once the hype dies, it will be all forgotten... Perhaps you can get one for under $100 :) I can wait, I waited this long for a cheap tablet after all.
Did I miss the hp.com sale it says "out of stock" when it was saying "coming soon" just last night?
Well of course you would want that.

And the West Hollywood BB had 3... 3. At least they came out at 630 and told the 20 or so of us in line.

I'm starting to think BB just doesn't like LA.

Goodluck with that. Most people want a profit now a days. A few of the sites even charged shipping + tax and spent more than $120 for the 16gig when they directly bought it. So they wouldn't even break even if you expect that.

I know my Insight would of been more than $120 if I got a 16gig from them.
LOL the closest best buy to me that claims it has stock on the website is about an hour away, what a sick joke.
Mine is three hours haha. But then again, I already got one being shipped. So I'mma not waste my time XD

So my orders (one for me/wife, one for mother-in-law) are still showing up on HP SMB order status saying Admin/Processing, Date will follow. But the pending charges have disappeared from my bank statement. Hmm. I placed one order on 8/20 and one on 8/21, so according to the message I heard a couple of days ago on HP's phone/posted on the website saying orders placed before 4am on Monday will be shipped, I should be good to go. I called this morning but I couldn't talk with a rep because I had to go into work, but I will call during lunch. Anyone else have their pending charges removed?

Im on my phone and at work.can anyone please give me a link to that HP chicks twitter so i can sign up for her txt alerts? Maybe i wont pull out my phone every 5 minutes today like a tool
^ there hasn't been a sale yet. the status changed from coming soon to out of stock several hours ago for no apparent reason.
Whew thought I missed the sale. Bet they will go up tomorrow am.
I am right in the same boat you are but I ordered later, some time on the 21st, long before the 4am CST Monday the 22nd cut off that is now posted all over the site. I have gotten the same e-mails as you and no cancellation and I have an order #. I'm currently on the phone and on hold for the second time with HP today, was on hold with Onsale but gave up after 45min, also was on for 1 hour and 30minutes and got auto disconnected; now on for *checks* 25 or so minutes trying to figure out what is going on, I'll update you if I have any pertinent info for our situation.

*UPDATE* : I guess I got through after another 10 minutes but it got me to someone's message box, so I was going to leave a message, and wouldn't you know it their inbox is full  . Oh well I'll try again tomorrow early, first thing in the day, open at 7am CST time hopefully by then I just will have a tracking number and my card charged since the authorization is gone.
***UPDATE*** I called at about 9:30am EST, got someone on the phone, somewhat helpful but not very personable at all :( . According to our situation it seems like if your authorization went away, do not have a tracking number, and have an order # your order is essentially backordered, the lady wouldn't tell me that though, she only would say I placed an order when the item was out of stock, even though the web site clearly listed it was in stock, I think she thought I used the cart glitch or something and I really didn't, now I'm a little peeved because she insisted that I ordered when it was out of stock and she had a picture of it as proof, why are some people such d-bags seriously? I wouldn't of placed an order if it was out of stock how stupid is that, she insisted I did and took a risk, the only positive is she said I will not be auto-cancelled, however it could take a few weeks. So after that cluster fuck of waiting on the phone that is what I have determined. So I'm guessing if your order has not been fulfilled at this point or not shipped they are going to just keep the order until they have some stock they are trying to fulfill all orders when they get stock from their resellers that sent back quantities. So right now I'm going to attempt to call another representative or live chat with them a little later on today and hopefully get someone who wasn't trying to rush me off the damn phone and insisted I'm wrong,, I'm the customer I thought I was always right, I'm giving you MY money, and I'm WRONG, okay lady :bomb: .

At the Taylor, MI store now and there was no line. I was third and when a few more people showed up a security guy came out and said they'd already given out tickets to people earlier and the dozen they got are spoken for. No one is leaving and they've asked for a manager. Riot countdown in 3... 2...1...

Manager just came out and said they handed out tickets at 7 am. That's that. Back to work.

I also ordered on on the 21st about 3:pm central time. My update status shows that it's at admin, but now I have shipping date of 8/29/2011 to be delivered on 9/1/2011. Also my cc charge is still pending.

I got the same thing happening, let me know what happens with your call man, my order was done on 8/21 and has been sitting at admin/proccessing since tuesday

Tough shit then, it's not like it's the end of the world. I know nobody is going to sell me one for $120 (16gb) and I'm not expecting them to. I refuse to feed the second hand market like eBay or CL.

I asked this question earlier but it was deleted for some reason so I’ll ask it again..

Does anyone know of any FREEWARE (NOT ILLEGAL) software to rip some dvd’s I own so I can watch them on the touchpad? I have a bunch of dvd’s that I would like to convert to .avi so I can watch on my way to work..

I’m not asking for anything illegal so hopefully this post won’t get deleted…

thanks

Almost 100 people at Castleton Best Buy. Tickets handed to about 30 or so. People look pissed. I'm sitting in my car watching the hilarity. Love my job.
I can't believe people are still lining up at stores for these things.
Me either.
I was shocked on Saturday.
I thought most people wouldn't have a clue, especially around my area.
Everywhere I went they said there were lines in the morning at all stores.

JoeSixPack has no clue about technology unless there is a great deal on it.

It was like when the Border's closed by me.
They were offering like 20% off the first month and the line to check out was to the back of the stores.
What these morons didn't realize, Borders always had a 40% coupon that you could have used anytime.

A lot of this could have been easier if stores only allowed 1 sold per customer.

There were d-bags buying 4 at a time.

Best Buy in cherry hill, nj had about 200 people in line, but they turned away a bunch of people as they gave out tickets way earlier.

Any places online supposed to get these in stock today?
stores with lines? tickets being handed out? what is this, a console launch?
What will the iPhone 5 launch be like?!

Im signed up for twitter txt alerts to my phone by following hp chick, and markathp, and i signed up on hp.com to be notified when some are in stock. My faith is strong that this is enough; that they will alert me within the 1st half hour at least of the product being in stock. Kudos to people that have the patience and faith to drive to BB and wait in lines...but seriously, start to put your faith in hp and relax a little. I bet a lot of you are stressed as heck. Sign up for alerts, keep your pc on and signed in to hp, and sign in on your phone as well in case you get stuck somewhere when its in stock away from your pc. Should be a painless thing waiting for hp. Ill worry about their website getting bombed with traffic and timeout errors when the time comes :) as long as it doesnt accidentally place my order ten times as i click refresh, itz koo

FedEx just dropped my TouchPad off :) Although looking at it here on my desk is temping. But I'm going to try and hold off till I get home to open it. (At work still)

I'd be surprised if it were worse because the iPhone 5 wont bring all the cheap asses out of the woodwork like this did.

Just got back from my local best buy where I was mid way in line when they announced that the vouchers they gave to people who were here at 9 would be good for them all day and that we would have to come back tomorrow to try for any unclaimed stock. If i would have known they would have saved me a unit all day for showing up that early I would have been there in a heart beat.

I am pretty sure they did it because people were highlighting the "coming soon" text and using check4change to hammer their servers. (I was checking every 5 mins)

I'm just going to cross my fingers that my SMB order eventually goes through. No fucking way I'd wait in line for one of these things (especially in weather like we have here). I thought this would be a pretty big deal when I first saw it, but never imagined it'd be like it has been. I figured online place would sell out quick, and same for B&M, but I never expected multiple websites to just crash from the onslaught or people to make fucking lines out front of stores like it was black friday or something.

It's a good thing I guess that none of my local BB stores have appeared to be getting in, so no one should have been waiting in lines around here.

Seeing as how you and I both already know we have one, saying this is taken like a grain of salt. I doubt stock in HP's site will last more than 30minutes. Everyone and anyone knows about this now. When the sale first started on Friday, it was a hidden little secret for the first few hours. Now everyone and their bother are trying to jump on an already crowded train.

I'm not going to even attempt getting another one, although I'd like a backup, I've put enough energy refreshing pages to last me a few years lol.

I waited at BB this morning, but I have a good feeling I might be able to snag 1 from hp hopefully at some point today. I'll keep an eye on the hp site.

Is there anywhere else I should be looking?

In regards to following the Twitter girl, how do you sign up for text alerts? I can have push notifications sent to my Twitter app but haven't seen any option to have a text sent to my phone.

Excellent point, plus resellers won't be able to double their investment with the iPhone on the secondary market.
