Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

Richard Kerris
VP webOS Developer Relations

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
are you able to redownload your apps after you delete them?
Yes. In fact, if you ever get another webOS device or format yours, when you put in your palm profile it will download all the apps you had before automatically (among restoring other things like contacts, book marks, text and call history, chat history etc.)
Ok people. STAYYYY AWAY from the hacks unless it's Android!!! Fcking shit blocking my apps!!! Gotta find a restore on this thing.
What? I don't know what you are talking about. You must have done something screwing.

Patching and hacking are the best thing about this thing - the ability to customize. Oh, and Honeycomb is a downgrade so not sure why people want it.
Are you still in developer mode? I think you cannot do apps in that mode.
Yes you can. I am not sure what he did wrong or what "block apps" means.
Turned that off, earlier. I will leave that stuff alone, for now.
You have to keep dev mode on for homebrew apps to work. Dev mode is Ipad's equivalent to jailbreaking.
I think Web OS is great! Not to sure why people are rushing to andriod. Not like you're gona install all 10,000 apps anyways lol
I don't think it's a problem with the OS, but a lot of the apps that people will want and will use the most aren't on WebOS and if there is something on WebOS they can use it most likely costs a couple dollars while on android it would be free.

Personally I like WebOS and if there was a way to keep it while getting the apps I use most on android ported over I'd be happy.

To be honest, I like mine how it is. Right out of the box! I did that hack because I didn't know any better. Kept seeing it pop up.
Is there anyway to type documents (like on MS Word) on the TouchPad?
No, you can read documents with Open Office but if you want to edit them you will have to use Google Docs or...I forgot there is something else the reviewer mentioned on Engadget.

Has anyone who placed an order on the Datavision ebay sale received theirs or a shipping notice yet? I know they said the end of the week, but I was hoping they were ahead of schedule

I had got the charger and case price matched, no problem.

getting the $80 touchstone for what everyone else was getting it for, 39.99... they kinda had a look, but gave it to me anyways.

can't believe I spent 75 on a 90 tablet... I still don't know if I'll keep it all. I may just return the spare charger... maybe I won't like the case....

I'm completely lost on the quality of ordering through HP small business. I bought a 32gb on the 21st at 11am. I just received order confirmation that says I ordered on the 23rd at 4am. It estimates ship date as 9/6.

Got mine today also :) I have installed the update, put it in dev mode, turned logs to min, and am getting ready to load up prepare. Overall its a nice tablet but it will end up with my kid and I will just use my iPad 2.

Anyone know of a place that is selling the official HP case for cheap? I would have gone with the eBay route but my dad wants an official one for his Touchpad.
Does anyone know if you can cancel in-store pickup orders on BB and get your money back? Not sure I want that Touchstone anymore...
The touchstone is dope. Get it!

Research what you install. Should be a rule everyone lives by when it come to electronics.

If anyone wanna watch HULU for shows like "Samurai Champloo" you can do so by going into Funimation and it will let you watch using HULU, however HULU website block Touchpad if you go directly to HULU. Basically third party HULU providers allows you to watch them :D.

ALSO if you guys are interested in watching movie files like .avi, and other formats I recommend the paid apps.

Direction:
Installed Preware.
Go to your Touchpad browser and enter http://www.kalemsoft.com/betas/com.kalemsoft.ksmplayera_0.3.6_all.ipk.
Install it and it will allow you in the beta for a week i think. If you want to buy, the price is $6.

Put movies files into folder DCMI > "Create new folder if you want inside DCMI"

Only Preware apps will do .avi?

I got nothing from them yet myself aside from that initial "we got a ton of orders and will ship at the end of the week" email

However I finally got my HP SMB order confirmation, which is weird, because my CC hasn't been charged, and it's showing a shipping / deliverydate of 8/23...

Guess I get to make the HP SMB phonecall tomorrow to figure out wtf is going on here

Got my touchpad today and can't do anything on the app store. I had a lot of downloads fail and now I can't even browse anything. I get an action could not be completed error. Hopefully the server is just overloaded now.

Ok I have been on the hunt for a touchpad since I missed the initial price drop. I hear HP is supposed to get a restock, is it supposed to be this week or the next?

My Toouchpad is set to arrive tommorow, but I was wondering does a wall charger come included in the box?

Nevermind it does, I pickup the Touchstone charger also, cant wait!

What's in the box?

• TouchPad
• Cleaning cloth
• AC charger
• MicroUSB cable
• Getting started navigation guide
Checked the tracker at 9:30 this morning, local BB said they had it in stock. Got there at 10:15 and already a huge line.

Not to mention the 40 or so more people behind me. They only had about 15 so I left empty handed.
lolololololololol i was right behind you. pretty weak because i was first in line there yesterday and the manager came out and said they were oos and would NOT be getting ANYmore ever again. cest la vie.

I had to keep trying after it say unable to connect, i say around 20mins?

You CAN charge it from your computer. Plug it in, tap usb, tap ok. However, I was, only, able to charge it while charging on the computer, not use it. Unplug it to begin reuse.

Hahaha, you were the guy with the black shirt and glasses right? Damn what a small world haha.

So funny story the Best Buy I went to today to pick up my DJ Hero two, they didn't have any instock (wasn't expecting any) but signs up everywhere talking about the 1 per customer limit (smart) and other various facts (like the PM policy regarding these) and I asked was it crazy in here when you had them?

The young CSR was really nice and was like Yeah huge line, I wasnt shocked as my area has awful lines for anything anywhere. Then the fucking guy behind her said "Yeah, it was such BS. I had to get the $150 one since we ran out of the $99"....

I stopped him before he could keep bitching about actually picking one up @$150 with "Wow, I had 3 of my orders canceled, one from Best Buy. Still waiting to see if I will actually get one through HP since my order is pending....so please shut the fuck up"

He shut up and left to stock something and the girl laughed and said how several Geek Squad guys were able to get some of the initial stock since they had several left over after their shifts. Its just baffling how some people will bitch about "having to" spend $50 for a pretty strong piece of hardware.

Someone found a workaround to getting HULU to run (link to precentral forum).
how long before you guys with touch pads were able to connect and update the OS?
I would like to know some of y'alls install times too. I received mine around 5pm, started updating around 8:30pm and it seems to be going really slow. I don't like that you don't have an option to select how fast you want to download your updates (e.g. run in the background, run in high priority, etc.).

Now I'm checking my Touchpad and it says "Unable to connect. Try again later."...maybe their update server is being overloaded with all the new user base trying to update the device.

And btw, webOS is great :)
hahahahaha indeed indeed. if i see u in line again and ur friend shows up without waiting, tell him he has to go behind me lol.
Haha. I was actually standing in line for him cause he wanted one so bad. Already bought one from OD and HP so I was good. :D
