We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!

I solved my network issues(new router), and I also found one of the Touchstone chargers at hhgregg for $39.99. Still no case yet though. I hope I can find an official one pretty cheap.
I think if you're going to use this thing and enjoy it, then yes. I've got the Touchstone set up on my nightstand, and I'm using the Touchpad as my Alarm Clock now, while streaming music to my stereo (bluetooth adapter from Monoprice plugged into the Aux jack), using BHome (app). It's a great combo.

Really though...you could use the regular charger and a $5 tablet/iPad stand from Five Below for the same effect. The Touchstone is just...convenient, and it puts the tablet right into clock/show mode.
That's the route I went, but then again, I'm cheap.
That's the route I went, but then again, I'm cheap.
Wouldnt the Touchpad get really hot while being charge on the wall charger?

I didn't get a touchpad, though I give it the old college try. I just wanted to post something in here to be a part of this behemoth thread!

Holy crap, just started Pandora, and the sound is awesome. It sounds a lot better, than on my ipad2. The longer I have this device, the more I feel like I stole it at the price that I paid. I paid full price for my 16gb iPad 2, and only paid $130 (had a 30 dollar giftcard) at best buy for my 32gb touchpad. I think that I am going to have to get me a touchstone now :D
I heard about this but didnt understand why so many people like it.So, I didnt buy one. Wonder if the touchscreen will break in 1-2 years?

I had a cell phone touchscreen that broke after 1 year of use.
...and was that cell phone an iphone ?

I didn't order one cause I have the Galaxy Tab 7inch(really want the sim capability)...but wow this TP is pretty amazing. Wouldve definitely given apple's ipad a run for it's money.

you failed when i noticed you've been here for 3 years and have 0 CAG feedback. i understand now why no one wants to trade with you. ;)
This thread and the cags associated with it is the biggest fail of this forum. People got a cheap tablet, sweet. Now they're sinking 50-100% of the products new price into accessories. Like old people or Joe consumer who just needs that brand name accessory that does everything for his shiny new doo dad.

With people openly saying they bought on eBay, wasting tons of time in lines, driving store to store or clicking refresh and/or on the phone. This is not CAG at least to me.

This is rapid and rabid consumerism. Not something synonymous with cost savings or deal finding. This is absolutely pathetic. Move along.

Somewhat scary realization is now SD's user base has probably jumped by a few thousand over the last couple of weeks. When reports credited SD with mentioning this deal when it first came live, news about the site spread to many people that hadn't known about it. My friend hawks that site now with his new touchpad. Oh boy.
This is a scary though.... :whistle2:&
@dkellar I personally would like to see a media player app, something like the vlc media player. All that codex stuff and formatting shouldn't be too hard to do, right? Lol. The other thing I wish was available was any sort of office suite, so I could use it for my school work. And while you are at it, let's get a netflix app going too! Lol!
I second all of these. :applause:

I went the Five Below route picked up a stand, a black neoprene-like storage case, a screen protector and a rubber skin that doesn't fit perfectly (since it was for ipad 2).
Honestly the folks who are trolling on buying these are just jealous because they have not been able to find one yet.
This exactly. Dont even waste your breath explaining yourself to them. Theyre bitter trolls and extremely transparent at that. Makes me laugh as i read their comments from my brand new touchpad.

If your on the fence about getting the HP TouchStone conductive charger, get it because its half price at most places ($35-$50), Wireless charging (very convient, no cords, dont have to line up any conducter/prongs just place it on stand...done (Charges as fast as a wall outlet even though its wireless) and finally.....extremely likely they will discontinue product, and I highly doubt a third party will make one due to the technology cost and considered a dead format.

Not to bitch too much,
-but could you guys that have yours already create a general discussion thread for the features, operation, q&a . . .etc.

Those of us still hunting are refreshing a lot of irrelevant stuff until we get ours- and I hate to miss an availability posting that might get lost while some are posting discussing screen protectors, how to turn it off, brightness settings, apps or the like.

Thanks.

:)

I really want this. It would be great to have while listening to Pandora, etc.... I printed out the Best Buy ad that has it for $40 INSTORE ONLY. Do you think that Walmart would price match this? It clearly says instore only, but I wonder if they will give me grief, due to the 40 dollar difference in price... Has anyone had success with this?

We should do this... Anyone wanna make it?

most modern chargers do stop charging when it hits 100%, at least for a little while.

from my understanding its already $35 at Wal-mart, according to SD at least (My walmart was sold out, including all 9 in the area lol) I purchased mine from Staples.com when they dropped the price to $50/ free ups shipping) I said what the heck why not, since I wasted gas going to Best Buy when the inventory said they had it in stock (This was after BB dropped price on Touchpads and starting selling them). I asked the employee where are you HP TouchPad accessorys "ummm we dont carry HP Touchpads, nor any accessories for it, we sent everything back to HP a couple of days ago" I just shook my head because my friend bought The Touchpad, and conductive charger the very same day at the store. Of course I checked the inventory again the next day, and low and behold, sold out.

How many people actually ordered just one?

Guess i will have to wait untill hp restocks since i live in a podunk town with no stores but walmart.

What is that like?
Doesn't the fact that you need to plug the Touchstone itself into an outlet mean that it's not wireless?
Wireless from the Touchpad to the Touchstone!!

we can't be fooled!
Doesn't the fact that you need to plug the Touchstone itself into an outlet mean that it's not wireless?
I suppose you think cordless phones aren't cordless because you have to plug in the base?

I don't get the whole Touchstone thing. I originally wanted one because I needed a stand, but now that the case I ordered is also a stand I don't see myself buying it. Wired/Wireless charging seems to have the same benefits for me, plus with wired charging I can actually hold the Touchpad while it's charging.

I only ever ordered 1, it's the one I'm on now. I couldn't afford to try to order from a bunch of sites and feel lucky to have got in on the deal early and have the 1 I wanted.
What is that like?
It sucks, but thank god for the internet or i would have to drive a couple hours to buy anything.
ill try that next time. do i have to be connected to wifi to access it?
Unfortunately you do so unless you have access to wifi often then I would keep trying to upload with usb.

I only ordered one, but I got super lucky finding a 32gb in stock when I stopped by my closest BB to check if they had received a shipment.

Its nice to just put it on. Its easy. U dont have to plug it in...i like it a lot and it works through the official case too.

Im in the same boat. Im glad for you. Hopefully i will luck out and get one down the road.

I may have to check out Five Below this week when I'm down in that area to see if I can find a screen protector or three for it and maybe one of those cases that doubles as a stand cuz there's still no way in fuckin' hell I'm paying $35-50 for a frickin' stand/case.

How about $10 for the Griffin Folio from verizon?

I only ordered one(from onSale) and I was lucky to get one. So far I'm liking it, good luck to all of you Touchpad hunters out there.

I ordered one right around when the news hit on Friday. I didn't want to have a lot of money tied up in other places so I just stuck with my one order at HP Academy. I also didn't want to deal with the crowds at B&M stores.
How about $10 for the Griffin Folio from verizon?
Eh. I just want a case for as cheap as possible. If I can find one that fits decently I'll be happy enough. Are there any combination case/screen protector dealies out there for $5-10? If so, I'd spring for one of those.

I dont think you can find a combination for that cheap after the change in supply/demand...screen protector would run u atleast $7-8. For Case perhaps look for target clearance Ipad cases for few bucks perhaps it would fit. But for a confirmed good fit I would recommend the Griffin if you got the $10, its FS and included tax. Your best chance would be the local store where they have clearance on Ipad cases. Ebay is just overprice now.

Got mine by standing in line at best buy last wednesday. I got there a 8:40 ,an hour and 20 mins before the store opened and there was 14 people in line. Luckily a sales associate came out and handed out tickets, and guaranteed each person who got one that the would receive a touchpad. I was number 15 of course, and they only gave away 20!

I went ahead and bought a touchstone and a case along with some filler to get the discount on bestbuy.com, but now I'm considering a screen protector. From what I understand the screen is tough stuff but CAN get scratched so with that said I want a good screen protector... but the question is, where can I find a decent one on the cheap?

Anyone?

I went yesterday and they had one for just about every major tablet except the HP touchpad. The Ipad 2 one I picked up will probably work though. The neoprene-like storage case is fine and the stand work well. I wish the rubber backing would have fit better but it's okay for five bucks. However, I picked up 17 inch laptop for my new ROG Asus and it didn't come close to fitting. :(

It's 35 on the Walmart site, but my store won't price match that, and it's 79 at my store. From what it sounds like reading your post, I better grab this thing quick! I hope they price match though, because I can't bring myself to pay 79 for it...

I'm in the same situation as you... I have a screen protector for my Ipad 2, but have read you don't really need one for the touchpad. Is it worth it, and where can I find one for cheap? I hate putting these things on... I always had Best Buy do it, so I wouldn't mess it up.

So out of curiosity I asked best buy what the extended warrenty price will be on the hp pad. They said it would be based on the original price not the discounted on so your looking at a 100 or so bucks.... fuck that.
