We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
Oh HELLLLL NO to that 'official' HP TouchPad case!!! That thing looks like a rubberband!! NO! My 'cheap' 1 runs circles around that, and for under $12 with super-sonic FREE shipping!!! I looked up a youtube unboxing video of the 'official 1'.

This is a good 1 & fits perfectly:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leather-Cas...Accessories&hash=item2c5ee4b078#ht_1603wt_966

I've noticed many of this same 1 with minor tweaks(embossing, extra cut-outs on front). Don't pay more for the same thing.

EDIT: Looks like they sold theirs. Here's a link to others:

That's sexy as heck. I'd want to see an unboxing video of it, though., So if someone gets one, make it. It looks like it can be sued on the Touchstone? And it looks like it's abe to stay closed? I see somethhng on the front that looks like a way to loop it and keep it closed? That would be a huge selling point.

At this point in time I think if you havent already gotten one you should turn you attention to a Transformer or Iconia at a cheaper price. Plenty of store coupons out there to drive the price down.

Quit wasting your time and energy.
Thanks for the 'Crackle.com', for free movies, reminder. I forgot about that. Came with my PS3, as well.
You're quite welcome. If I ever get a regular HDtv to play my PS3 on I'll probably sit there and watch the whole run of The Three Stooges on there, as it looks like they have all of their shorts on there.;)

Although I was kinda hoping they would've had The Boondocks on there, since I believe that's a Sony property as well, since I missed that one BB midnight sale where all three volumes were $27 total.

Not sure about the Touchstone charging. I don't have 1. Also, there's some type of hard board inside and that 'may'get in the way of charging it like that. It opens and closes like a book. There are no magnets. Maybe a small piece of sticky velcro could work as a closure to keep it closed. I'd trust putting this in my main big purse and I have all types of stuff in there!

Or wait for the Amazon tablet. I think somebody posted a link that Amazon will sell it at a loss in order to move a large amount of units. Seems like they may just have to do that now with the market flooded with TouchPads.

At this point, I am more interested in the deal than I am in the device itself.

Ill just save the money, not feed the asshole resellers, and buy a vastly superior Android tablet.
...

And I'm sure there's some of this that is just because they didn't expect to drop the price OR to have the crazy sales, so they're still trying to get all their stock in one place so they know what they have...
I'm sure it's this. Some retailers shipped stock back as soon as they could and i'm sure there were a ton in storage waiting to be moved. I think they could be waiting to raise the price but theres no good way they can do it now.
Just take a look at the ResellerRatings rating for OnSale alone for proof of how whiny some people can be when they don't get their way. .
On one hand theres making a mistake. On the other hand they flat out lied and and provided bad customer service. There was some early communication from them that they would be able to honor most of the orders. Then they kind of stayed quiet about everything and left people hanging. If they had came out and admitted the mistake from the beginning they would have been ok. Every other retailer sold more then they had and just about every other retailer was walked away from this without a black eye.

How long did it take to get a rep on the phone from HP Small Business? I've been on hold for 2hrs 30 mins. Thank GOD for speakerphones but still... You would think they would have more employees handling the calls coming in.
They're not gonna raise the price. I'd bet on tinfoil hats shooting up before I bet on the TP price increase.
They've stated a few times lately that this was a "discount" or a "sale". I'm not saying they will but if they doubled the price on these they'd probably still sell quite well. I'm sure theres been some meetings inside HP headquarters about this. I don't believe that they will since it really seems they're set on getting out of the phone and PC buisness. I wouldn't be shocked if the "sale" ended soon with new discounted prices.
That's the way I was looking at it. If I didn't get any, I would just have that money for something else. But since I got a couple of them, I'm hooking up two friends/fellow CAG's with them.

I had originally intended to keep at least the 16gb for myself, but I figured I'd get bored with it in a month or two, so it was a better idea to sell it to friends who may get some real use from it.;)
I gave up at a little over 2 hours. I was very annoyed and had a massive headache after 2 hours of elevator music through a speaker phone.
Personally, I don't understand why they threw in the towel as quickly as they did. It obviously cost them a pretty penny to R&D this thing(and it's a hell of a device), so why give up the ghost in a month?
Because HP has been on a suicidal course for the past year as today's Wall Street Journal details:

H-P's One-Year Plan

Let's say you were given a year to kill Hewlett-Packard. Here's how you do it:

Fire well-performing CEO Mark Hurd over expense-report irregularities and a juicy sexual-harassment claim that you admit has no merit. Fire four board members, as publicly as possible. Foment a mass exodus of key executives who actually know how to run the giant computer company.

[snip]

Provoke partners Microsoft and Oracle by threatening to put H-P's own operating software on PCs. Then decide not to. Remember that promising webOS software H-P bought in a $1.2 billion acquisition of Palm last year? Sideline it.

[snip]

Boast that you're going to attack Apple's iPad with your $499 TouchPad. Then dump your TouchPad in a $99 fire sale and announce you're just not going to offer it anymore.

Telegraph to the world that you are just too dumb to make smartphones.

[snip]

From former CEO Carly Fiorina's spectacular flame-out, and former chairwoman Patricia Dunn's illegal spying scandal, to Mr. Hurd's alleged sex scandal that apparently didn't involve any sex at all, this sort of dysfunction has become "the H-P Way."

It has been a year since H-P fired Mr. Hurd. Jack Kevorkian couldn't have devised a better plan for euthanizing a company.

Yep, pretty much.

It's in post #1.

SO I BROKE DOWN and bought the second one for the wife from eBay after reading the new FAQ from HP this morning, which goes something like this:

1) We now "don't know" if we'll get more in stock at HP.
2) We won't give you free shipping on these in the future.
3) We won't allow you to use coupons on these in the future.

So with tax and shipping, I would have had to pay over $176 to HP for a 32GB and MAYBE get one.

Meanwhile, Computer Geeks on eBay has the 32GB now for $249.99 with FREE shipping, no tax, brand new. Plus I got $5 in eBay Bucks. (Basically free money).

So let's see $245 - $176 = $69. $69 for peace of mind and not having to refresh the HP inventory page all week is not a big price to pay! Plus the seller is very reputable.

So my TouchPad saga is officially over. We'll both have one now, with an official case for each, and a shared Touchstone = Happy. :)

Glad you mentioned your numbered bulletpoints. I hadn't bothered to read their FAQs. If those remain true, I guess my TP search is over as well. Enjoy 'em people.

They've already announced getting out of the business and the fire sale has been baked into their stock price already. So there's nothing to be gained from adding a few million bucks of cash (which is peanuts to HP) to the coffers by raising prices.

Execs are like baseball umpires, they hate admitting they're wrong. There's no way they'd try to look more like dumb assholes than they already have by raising the price and admitting they priced the fire sale too low. What does an extra $10M in cash do to their stock price? Nothing. But they'd look like buffoons which might lower the price more.

Congrats. If I had the extra money I would have done the same, my I'm pretty much limited to $130-40 for the 16GB.

Well, I give up waiting for more shipments/actively pursuing this thread. Just gonna hop on to HP.com once I get the notification email. I decided to share my only touchpad thats arriving from Insights today with my GF when she wants it for school, and then my mom when she leaves town for weeks on end for work(she makes me check/send her emails daily over the phone when she's gone, so you can see why I NEEDED one for her; so I can live my own life)
HP sent me 2 cases, obviously I wont need one of them. I'm afraid if I return it for a full refund, they'll charge me an extra $15 since I used a $15 off $75 coupon...so yeah. If anyone has trouble finding a case, I'll sell you mine for 0 profit, to break even.
This will be after I wait until batch 2 of HP to come in stock, of course...*fingers crossed*

*sigh* finally got around to calling HP small business for some info on my order. the 2 different order status links i have show delivery dates or either today or the 1st. when i called, the guy told me they don't even know if they can fulfill my order, although it was placed well inside that time frame they announced. i'll just continue to wait and hope for the best.

Wow, I remember you specifically chiding me as a "nutjob" when I expressed excitement at getting one at OD, and people like me were the reason eBay and CL hoarders were gouging. Great consistency :whistle2:#
All of this rage, indignation and the entitled attitudes are just quite hilarious to me. If you don't get an order in or if you feel your order was cancelled without merit(in your opinion), then you're out for blood and out to ruin whoever doesn't just pass by all of the other orders and fill yours and yours alone.

Just take a look at the ResellerRatings rating for OnSale alone for proof of how whiny some people can be when they don't get their way. It's like the soccer moms who come into a game store asking for a game on a system it didn't come out on(Mario on 360, for example) and they'll argue till they're blue in the damn face than back down and admit that they were WRONG.

Shit happens, sometimes companies get their inventory numbers messed up, but to nuke a company and their reputation for it is just absolutely ridiculous.
Onsale deserves everything they get. Over three days for a cancel notice is unacceptable. I stopped looking because I just naturally assumed it was going to ship since I had a confirmation email and received no further communication. Then I come to find out later that orders made later in the day were shipped and mine wasn't. This isn't an issue of entitlement. It's an issue of horrible business practices. I'm not the kind of person to leave feedback on reseller ratings, whatever that is, but I left them some choice words in the amazon feedback. I don't wish them to be nuked, but I do wish them to be accountable for their actions, or lack there of in this case. At the very least, I feel like they could have offered some kind of discount on one of the android tablets they sell to try and make the situation right.

Yeah at $200+ I'd rather put that money towards an android or a used/refurb ipad. If there is no free shipping (that's how I read the faq too) then I'll probably advise my gf to pass for now and go for a supported pad in the future.

edit: Thanks for posting the link to the new apps, didn't miss out on these :) Pennant seems to be interesting for baseball fans and there are a couple decent games there.

I still can't believe why people wouldn't want a refurbished iPad on apples website for 299. If your gonna go spend 249 for this on eBay your getting ripped off. Everyone on this website and in this thread obviously love video games and the games on the iPad are really good. I just don't understand why you wouldn't want an iPad for 50 - 100 dollars more. And don't complain about not having the money because you shouldnt be buying a tablet to begin with. If you got one for 100 dollars that's great I would get one too but don't overpay for this.

Personally, I don't like Apple's practices, nor do I want to be tied to their OS...and I honestly can't stand Apple Minions. No way in hell I'd be caught with an iPad unless it was given to me for free :)

Because it's refurbished?

used/refurbished != new

I don't buy games with shit stains on them from GS and I don't buy refurbished electronics.

Apparently it's OOS, why even rant and bitch about why someone isn't buying a $299 iPad when it's not even in stock and hasn't been for a while.

This guy is preaching to the wrong crowd anyway, it's not like most, if anyone here is paying $250 for these
