Dear webOS developer:

We have opened the next chapter for webOS, and we understand that you must have many questions. Yesterday we announced that we will focus on the future of webOS as a software platform but we will no longer be producing webOS devices. While this was a difficult decision, it's one that will strengthen our ability to focus on further innovating with webOS as we forge our path forward. Throughout this journey, our developers will continue to be a vital part of the future of webOS.

We will continue to support, innovate and develop the webOS App Catalog. Our intent is to enhance our merchandising and presentation of your great products and to continue to build our webOS app ecosystem.

As many of you are aware, we are currently scheduled to hold many developer events around the world. We are planning to continue with these events, however, due to the recent announcements; the nature of them will change. These updates will be posted on our events registration site this coming week. We are eager to present to you the updated strategy for webOS and to hear your feedback.

Lastly, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing support for webOS and the many teams responsible for it here at HP. This is a particularly dynamic time in the mobile industry and sometimes tough decisions need to be made about not only what to do, but also what not to do. This has been one of those times. Together with our great webOS developer community, we are confident that we will meet the challenges ahead and build momentum for optimal success.

We will be communicating with you frequently over the next few weeks and we look forward to hearing from you throughout this process.

Thanks for your support

It may be a futile, doomed effort, but they aren't killing and totally orphaning the Touchpad. Yeah, it's going to be limited, but it's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS! A 9.7" tablet with Gorilla Glass screen for a C-note. Hell, I'm gonna get one just cuz! There's a Kindle app, so BAM!!! $100 eReader!
Hopefully this last batch of TouchPads will have the 1.5GHz processor they were using for the TouchPad 4G and 64GB White TouchPad.
All current touchpads have the same processor - it's 1.5GHz, it's just 'down clocked' to 1.2. That's why the overclock is completely safe. At least, according to those over @ PreCentral.
Did you notice that most people didnt receive that new email from HP today? The one updating us on their situation?
Doesnt it make you LOL?
This mass email never reached the inbox of half the people who signed up for the alerts....
Can you imagine what will happen when they actually email us the notification of them having stock? Seems like some of us may not even ever receive it.
*headache*
I was just thinking about this. I signed up with 3 emails for notification. Only 1 of them got an email and it wasn't the HPA email account either.
I'm wondering the same thing. According to the FAQ, the estimated shipping dates mean nothing. But then why have so many different dates? Mine shows a shipping date of 9/3 and a delivery date of 9/6. I will rejoice to the Heavens if that turns out to be true...but I'm not holding my breath. For reference, my order was placed on 8/20 at around 1 PM CST.

Another question I have is what the hell happened to all the stock that stores allegedly sent back to HP? I thought THAT'S what we were waiting on...not for them to manufacture more. Something just feels off here.
I think the only major vendor with stock that was still pending to go back to HP was Costco. I think NewEgg was in the same boat as well, as pretty much every other vendor fire-sold them at the cheap price. Best Buy's stock was in semi-limbo, though I think they redirected it back to stores once they worked out the refund situation with HP.

At this point, I think the only stock left to go back to HP is on the way back to them from Newegg and Costco. No idea if there's any other vendor that didn't sell through it.
HP SMB just authorized my card for a 32 GB from 8/21 but I have no e-mail or updates on my status. They had auth'd it when the order was placed and then lifted it two days later. Anyone else?
I guess that'll be the point we know when they ship, when the CC gets charged for the purchase.

Yeah, I also thought we were waiting on a supply that was sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

Hope they manufacture enough, if that's even possible. Hopefully the craziness wears off by the time they're ready.

Yes, datavision really had a shitstorm on facebook. They made a smartazz comment that really pissed people off. Something along the lines of "its ridiculous how you facebook fans think you know the exact order your orders were placed in". It made people mad. But yeah know what? Its true. These fb people are flat out retarded and arrogant. They keep claiming people that ordered after them got their tp, etc. Yeah, you dont work there, dont pretend to know whats going on.
Also, yes, im confident you will lose your best buy discount if you dont pick up all the items from your order. If my store is out of nook cases, im asking them to charge me for them but not give them to me, if thats possible...

Well, anybody complaining about Datavision needs to look no further than this very website for their credibility. These were the guys who had a price mistake on their site for Rock Band 3 when it launched and listed the keyboard/game bundle ($130) at the keyboard only ($75) price...AND THEY HONORED IT. They fulfilled at least 200 orders for the bundle at a loss, and people were doing the exact same panic and pitchfork routine back then too. But they came through and satisfied virtually every single customer.

This isn't even close to the situation with OnSale. Datavision informed people right away that it was going to take time and that they only had a limited supply of TP's to fill orders, but would fill the remaining orders when they acquired more stock. What more can they do?

The people on datavision fb page are embarrassing. Theyre saying dv have done nothing but lie, etc. No, they didnt. They said they wouldnt cancel orders and were contacting hp. Thats the truth. Now they found out hp wont have more for a few weeks. So theyre in a situation where theyll have to cancel orders. They never lied about anything. Now all these customers want a 100 dollar giftcard for their woes...so ridiculous.
Now all these resellers want a 100 dollar giftcard for their woes...so ridiculous.
Fixed this for you. ;)

Lol touche! Two people said to go to the store - in person - and "do whatever you gotta do". Really now? We are threatening a business because of a tablet? Half these kids want it just so they can stream porn in bed. Honestly, this whole thing is making me ill. Your money was tied up for a few days, oh well, live and learn!

Datavis did lie, their ebay page said it would ship the next day (impossible given the circumstances), then they said ALL orders would ship by last friday, then they said no orders would be canceled

now they're canceling orders, and unless the pictures on twitter were fakes (which is very possible) then they offered to overnight touchpads to people who canceled /complained about their orders.

It wouldn't be so bad if they'd just give a straight answer, yes they have enough and are shipping orders as fast as they can, or no they dont have stock and can't fill orders.

I have a pending order with them, and while it's not killing me having them holding my cash, If they can't fill the order I'd rather them own up to it and let me know so I can get the cash back.

I do find the threats and what not rather stupid though, it is not, contrary to somes belief, the end of the world
And what's wrong with that?:whistle2:#
Nothing, that was my main reason for purchase! But theyre gonna live their life fine without it. Theyd barely use it, anyway. And i wasnt aware of those twitter pictures, but at this point I wouldnt believe anything from the customers; theyve proven to be insane

like 1.5lbs I thought, maybe they shipped you 3? o_O

I saw a video from qualcom? i think, that showed android ported, but theres no public release if it was

Oh. Fap away then...

Just got the Datavision e-mail - very disappointed since I already bought accessories for it, but at least I can put the $50 ebay money towards one. I'm glad they're at least giving people SOMETHING for the inconvenience.

ask and ye shall recieve...just got a Batavia email we'll either get a cancellation +gift card or tracking # for a touchpad tomorrow

Why is there no outrage for zones.com? It's been over a week with no email response, no confirmation, no status change, anything. All we got is a vague message on their front page. There is no reason for them to at least cancel your order or email you with an estimated wait time for shipping to process.

Did HP also discontinue making accessories for the TouchPad? Amazon, OD, Best Buy, Walmart (looking online) and other stores don't seem to be restocking the accessories.
Did HP also discontinue making accessories for the TouchPad? Amazon, OD, Best Buy, Walmart (looking online) and other stores don't seem to be restocking the accessories.
obviously ;). Why would they release accessories for products that aren't made anymore?

my cousin ordered 5 for me and other family members last Sunday and was just told by HP 2 months before we get them..... wow

Don't know if this got posted already but it looks like HP is going to be producing one more batch of these things due to high demand so good news if you still don't have one.

Bad news is they haven't yet stated if they're still gonna be going for 99/149. I think they generally know that the big selling point of these things was the price but somehow I think they now have massive egos and will try to unload them at a higher price. Who knows.. we'll see.

Yeah I have my order with Datavision, and don't hold them at fault. They had good reason to believe they were getting stock shipped, as it had been promised to them.

The fact that they are now giving a $50 Ebay gift card PLUS a refund (or the tablet, as we'll find out tomorrow), PLUS the option to get one from them if they get more... I find above and beyond.

If I don't get a touchpad, sure I'll be disappointed, but the rumored Amazon/droid cheap tablet may allay that grief.
had onsale given us a 50 dollar giftcard i think everyone would have been fine with it datavision doing the right thing
Giving away $50 G/Cs just makes people bitch and moan more later. I don't think that was the right thing to do.

it's like giving into a teenage girl who incessantly whines because they can't get "insert girly product here." Giving into that just makes matters worse in the long run. Teaches people that bitching to a company enough will net them something they don't deserve.
Dataviz isn't giving everyone $50 GCs. The email said UP TO $50 so most will get far less than that.
That's even worse! That's going to make the people who got a $5 GC bitch that they didn't get a $50 GC. Arg!
Dataviz isn't giving everyone $50 GCs. The email said UP TO $50 so most will get far less than that.
It'll likely mean $5 per TP ordered; so those who ordered 10+ get up to $50 :lol::lol:

They are giving a coupon not a gift card

-On Thursday, September 8, you will be receiving a coupon valued up to $50 directly from eBay for your inconvenience. The unique code will come from eBay directly to your email address registered on file within your account.

Will probably be a percent off or $10 off 100 and up.

anybody elses hp smb order say this at the top been like this since then phoned and they said it was still goin throught the financial department

Order date: 8/21/2011 10:12:33 AM

So... we who ordered from the site and didn't get our money back for a week + shouldn't bitch? We should just be happy idiot consumers and not ask why it took so long to even be told we would not be receiving the product that showed "In stock - 13 remaining - order now!"?? All while being unable to purchase at another retailer if we weren't so lucky to have the funds for another one?

I am not a big fan of playing victim, but on the opposite side, silently accepting shitty customer service from a supposedly reputable vendor does not sit well in my books either. It teaches the company that they can treat their customers like crap and not have any consequences.

Oh and btw, nice display of sexism there too bro.

Got my last 2 Hp touchpads today. Very frustrated with Fedex. So i come home from work and find a delivery notice sticker on my door. Reads "delivered to apartment 29". Turns out they were ok with just giving my delivery to my neighbor since i was not there. But when i go knock on the neighbors door she did not even notice what it was. If she did she probably would of kept it for herself. Not the first time fedex does this to me either. I have ordered headphones online before and they turn it in to another neighbor which ends up keeping my stuff =/

Hmm.. My order status lists an estimated ship date and delivery date of "08/26/2011" still. I went with the 2 day shipping at checkout since it was only slightly more expensive than normal. I hope it actually will be shipping soon.... I don't really want my funds tied up if not. :/
