I got news of a potentially HUGE anime sale scheduled to start at approximately 460 Best Buy stores starting on 3/1/09 through 3/21/09.

ICv2 has obtained a list of the Best Buy stores that will be running 50% off close-out sales on anime beginning March 1st (see “Best Buy’s New Anime Strategy”) (article link is at bottom of this post). Oh no! I wanted to stop by Best Buy today to order FMP fumoffu and have it shipped to me since no stores nearby have it. :( I will go tomorrow and try the kiosk and hope for the best. =/

I ordered a lot of things, and i think they're all coming at once. Do you think they're all seperately crappily packaged, or did BB grow a brain and give me a nice big safe box to ship it in? This question is for anyone btw.

I placed a big order but they are sending out seperately . I think it is going to depend on the size of the package. For example my Samurai Deeper Kyo comes in a box since it wont fit any padded envelope. However my ghost hunter is in a padded envelope.

They shipped my copy of Berserk in the same type of envelope, and it was in perfect shape. I guess I got lucky on that one. Too bad my Neon Genesis Evangelion tin was dent in the one shipment that actually had bubble wrap....
 
I got one of my DVDs that I ordered today, just a single volume of Beck. They shipped it in a cardboard box that could easily have fit another 2 single DVD cases in it. There was no padding/cushioning whatsoever, though, but I still prefer that over the envelopes people showed in this thread. Everything seems OK with the item so I think I'm in the clear. Hopefully, they'll ship my other order in a similar box.
 
If anyone is still able to get Samurai 7 or Afro Samurai: Resurrection on Bluray for 50% off could they snag me a copy to sell to me?
 
I got my Samurai 7 (with the artbooks) today and it got banged up pretty bad because instead of boxing it in cardboard like everything else I've got from the kiosk, they put it in a bubble mailer. >_

- Thanks for everyone who replied about the loose disk. I was checking it out, and it's def. broken. I can hear shards when I flip the box upside down. i'm going to return it and I better not have any problems.

Sony's really slow in releasing this series, so far there hasn't been any word on when the next season set will be released, but I imagine we'll get a release date when the singles being released have caught up with the first box set.
 
Question for anybody who got the first disc of Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage - I notice that there is a DVD case AND a steelbook in the package. Is the steelbook made to hold the complete series?

I ask because I picked up all three discs, but I was thinking about taking them back and instead ordering the complete version that comes out in the near future (to save a bit of money and some shelf space). However, if all the discs can fit in that one steelbook, I'll probably just keep what I have at slightly higher cost rather than wait for the other to be released and risk BB's crappy package packing technique.

My oh my, I stopped at a best buy today and it wasn't one of the 50% off sale... I asked if they could price match it from a store that was (just for a single purchase) and they called the MM for an override and he was in a real jovial mood... let me have 2 movies at 50% off :p

There should be designated spots in the steelbook for all three DVD discs (including a possible bonus disc).

If I'm not mistaken, two discs unfortunately will overlap two other discs. A bonus disc might be found inside the steelbook. This is how it was done for the first season.

No guarantees. But there is also a high likelihood that Black Lagoon's Second Barrage will be released in the future resembling the first season--e.g. all 3 DVDs already packaged nicely inside the steelbook. All at an expected lower overall cost. I might be wrong, but I don't see why it would be any different from the first season.

The last time I checked preorder for the upcoming complete Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage was full price.

I was referring to non-sale pricing, or brick and mortar listed regular pricing. If you disregard Best Buy's 50% off discount, the complete Black Lagoon Second Barrage will be less than buying them as individual stand alone volumes.

But if you really want to factor in "discounts" including Best Buy's 50% off anime sale, you then must include rightstuf's annual or whenever sales for Geneon comes up, yes, Black Lagoon Second Barrage will be cheaper, priced at $28.98 (e.g. 42% discount off [if you have a gotanime membership] retail pricing through rightstuf--when Geneon sale comes up. TRSI rotates through sale for all the major studios, changing once every 2 weeks. 'annual' is a bit of a misnomer, since it usually happens twice a year- but there's no clear discernable pattern for it. Just check every Thursday to see what's up (it'll probably be a lil' while, since they just had a Geneon sale recently.)

Thank you for the clarification. Thought it might be some set event.

I think I found out about them at the tail end of the Geneon sale, but they got trumped by BB's anime sale when I got Fate/Stay Night.
 
Some items that showed up back-ordered are showing back in-stock for me. I don't know if this is a region thing or not.

- Also, can someone see if Princess Yucie comes up half-off? Someone told me it did, but I tried about 2-3 computers, and nothing.

I looked up the 2nd Afro Samurai in BD and it showed normal price. Judging by the fact that the people who got their BDs for 50% off had YMMV experiences and did it in store at a register, no less, I'm willing to be that you won't be able to get the same discount through the kiosks.
 
Well, Best Buy worked out nice last night. Grabbed the full seasons of Full Metal Alchemist for instore pickup at a nonsale store that had them in stock for my Girlfriend. Also managed to preorder Princess Tutu for 50% off, which I set to pick up in another store. We'll see if that works out, hopefully it does.

I manged to get it for half off at a kiosk last night. Just got my shipping notice this morning.

I did run into a weird glitch at a kiosk last week. I had a few items in my cart, changed my mind and then logged out of my BB account. But when I searched for new items, none of the anime titles had the 50% discount. Thankfully, things were back to normal last night.

Beck Vol. 6 rang up as 50% off? Every other volume of Beck rang up for 50% off except for 2 & 6 when I checked over the weekend. I guess I'll have to swing by if I'm ever in that area again. Thanks for the answer.

Nice, congratulations. At this point, it's probably not worth the time and money for me to drive all the way out to that BB to hope that it rings up correctly on their kiosks.
 
I dropped by my best buy today to see if there was anything worth getting, but it was pretty well picked clean. Shame. All I really wanted to pick up was part 2 of Gurren Lagann, and maybe Haruhi too.
