I got news of a potentially HUGE anime sale scheduled to start at approximately 460 Best Buy stores starting on 3/1/09 through 3/21/09.

I checked them today when I got home and

My black lagoon metal case has these two bumps coming in from the outside.

My second season of Yu Yu Hakusho had a floater disc in it that lightly scratched the DVD.

One of my Kodocha dvd sleeves had two broken dvd holders on either side and both were floaters inside and have no way to put them in without them floating.

My Ouran case has a dent on it (I don't know whether to bother with this one or not >_>)

I think I'm going to go back and try and exchange these.

I might also pick up Shin-chan Season 1 Part 2 and Season 2 Part 1 while I'm there.

Afro Samurai Resurrection is only one people have problems with, but majority of people here have been able to talk it down to half.

Thought I'd pick up some other titles I was thinking about that I didn't the first time. Surprisingly the store's selection still looked more or less the same. I could see gaps of where I pulled some titles from last time. The odd thing was they restocked My-Otome Zwei. I know I took the last one on the shelf before, so they must have had some in the back they brought out. And there were still no signs at that particular store advertising 50% off.

Hate to sidetrack, but was anyone else disappointed in "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time?" People seem to love the anime because it's artsy and all, but there was so many unanswered questions at the end that it left me feeling unfulfilled. I can pretty much guess what's going on, but I rather know than speculate and wish a #2 was made to confirm matters. I bought the dvd blind as I love time based stories like "Groundhogs Day," but sadly this is not going to be one of my favorite time movies that I own.
 
Dunno? I thought it was ok. Good enough for me really. Sometimes I was thinking "But couldnt you have just..." blah blah, but I finally was just like "OK, its a movie...just leave it." Anyways, yeah I had a lot of questions at the end...

I ordered some stuff using the kiosk for dvds at non-clearance stores, very helpful since the selection at my local clearance store has been ravaged. In case anyone is looking for a cheap, funny OVA, Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro Chan is only $8.50 after the 50% off and is available for order through the kiosk.

Seasons 7 & 8 + GT season 1 & 2 are $17.99 after discount. The others I dunno since I already had them but some of them had $39.99 price tags. The double packs with movies are $10.


And I would reccomend you check your Season 8 discs if you end up buying it, I went through 4 sets at Best Buy before I got one that didn't have scratched up discs.
 
I already spent over $600 for this sale.
Just borrow a GPS from a friend so I can drive to other BB tomorrow for another hit.

I agree, we ALL need more anime. I spent just under $400 on this sale, but I just learned about the kiosks yesterday. I'm sending my brother out tomorrow and if we can order everything we want, that'll be another $250 :bomb:. And that's us holding back....
 
I took a look at the Kiosks, wanting to find a good deal like Antic found (he found Samurai 7 with guidebooks, shows as 89.99 on the website yet at the Kiosk it shows as 19.99) I didn't find anything, other than a possible deal of some season of Dragonball Z showing up as 12.49, but what I noticed was that there seems to be a ton of excluded anime via the Kiosk. I wonder if everything was changed manually, as far as the 50% off goes.

Also, that three dollar coupon is brilliant. Used four of them per transaction for a total of 8 coupons used (although I missed up and got the wrong Baki). No one gave a shit, it was wonderful. It makes a huge difference for the cheaper anime-- like I got that anime about the gay dude who turns into a woman for 4.50. I know that's probably not what the series is about, but that's my American take on it.

I also got this incredibly shitty 6 disc set of Space Pirate Mito. Well, it looks shitty anyway. It's 60 episodes of anime for 3.50 after discount and coupon, how could I argue?

I don't know why, but that 3.00 coupon makes a big difference for me, even on the 20 dollar sets. I'm gonna to pick up more stuff, and if I get inspired, I'll rebuy the previous Anime I got and return it with the old receipt.

It's actually both Space Pirate Mito and its sequel, Aoi & Mitsuki.

I liked it. How can you go wrong with a series that uses the line, "Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto"?

Yeah, I noticed that, but I had already forgotten it because of it's extremely cheap packaging. I wanna know how they fit six discs in there. Do you have any impressions on it? It seems... kiddy I suppose.

Yes, this girl allowed it, black and white and all. In fact, it was at the same store. I went and got four, went to my car to dump my haul off and went to play with the Kiosk. Afterwards, I figured I'd try some more. I don't know why I settled on four the second time because she didn't give two shits. I'm pretty sure I could have used my stack of 15 coupons if I wanted to (which I wanted because they had all of the Shin Chan sets)

I'm going to try again tomorrow at another Best Buy that has a better selection. Hopefully I don't get shut down.
 
I Got to admit. I Am in awe in just less then a week of this sale people are spending this much. I Wish I had the money to do that I think is what I'm trying to say.

You just made me realize there's another Best Buy, over the state border, almost the exact same distance away as the only one in my state discounting. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, but now I have to go check another one, and this time with sales tax.

As for the coupon, again, I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing to give more incentive to binge on anime. I do know I'm still not going to buy any extra-long series like some of you, since I imagine that a few years down the road they'll re-release them with entire seasons on single blu-ray discs for greater convenience. I mean, this is the 2nd time they've put out DBZ on DVD isn't it?
 
I picked up Dragon Ball Z seasons 2-6 and my brother got 4-6. I used the $3 off coupon on all of them, and I'm going back today to pick up the rest of the seasons.

If you go to a kiosk at one of the stores that is having the sell, all of the discounts will show up there. Basically it is BestBuy.com, with the 50% applied to the anime...

indeed, they've re-released everything that can be re-released. For example, yyh has, I think 3 or 4 incarnations, the original one, the bundled box/economy box thing, then the uncut stuff with 2 disc, and now the season 1-4 thing...but hey, if they can get more people to buy stuff, why not

Also, nobody answered me =/. How do i get anime from a non-sale store and get my money back at an on-sale store, and how long do i have to do it?

You mean used the kiosk at a clearance store right? IT only shows discounted prices at clearance stores doesn't it?

I also THOUGHT I got Bubblegum Crisis, but I just noticed the "Tokyo 2040" subheading yesterday, so I'm going to return that. I've heard the original is great, but 2040 is horrible.

I think I spent about $170 or so total, minus the $17 plus tax for returning 2040 I'll be around the $150 range, which is probably the end for me. Maybe grab a straggler here or there, but I spent a bunch on anime last year at Right Stuf, probably more than twice what I've spent on this BB clearance, and I've only watched lilke two or three series out of the 10 or so I probably got back then.

I kind of wish I hadn't bought all this now, to be honest. :lol: Mostly for reasons stated above. I have a huge backlog of video games and books already, no real need to add more to the anime stack.

Couldn't resist the cheap prices, though. I'll have to just cut back on my sleep a few hours per day, I guess. :D
 
Snagged the complete thinpack box set of Mushi-shi for $25 at the Michigan Rd. (Carmel) Best Buy yesterday. Nothing else of interest to me - they only had a couple small endcaps.
 
heres my blu ray pickup also picked up other things after this sale i will only be buying anime on bluray went to menomnee falls wi store today seems they took the sign down and will only offer the 50% off unless u ask or it auto ring up at that price so only people who know from internet or a friend will the are on sale

When I got back to my local store..I went on yet another shopping spree. Nothing really new, but stuff I realized I should buy. I really need to stop spending, but it would be kind of hard to at this rate.

Like I said before I was pretty surpised no one had bought Kanon vol. 5 by when I got there. It had just sat there for months, and I hadn't bought it because I already owned it. Bought this one so I could collect the rest just for collecting's sake.

I finally got the Blu-ray discounted. I guess buying Afro Samurai and it ringing up 50% off made them have to discount the rest when I brought it up. They didn't give any excuses or anything, which was pleasant. Yess, can't wait to watch them.

I might go back and try to pick up Samurai 7 on Blu-ray. Is it worth the discount?

Because all the blu-rays need a manager override (except afro s.1), they were talking about putting up a sign that says "excludes blu-rays" as I was leaving today. I have a feeling that I may not be able to get any more anime blu-rays for the discount after this...

which is why i went back to menonee falls store to pick up samurai 7 on bluray ,but they took down signs yesterday, , but i still got it 34.99 cause i had my reciept showing they gave it to me the day before and i know the sign said all anime

why not at 50%off for bluray yeah its always worth it if you have a good video/sound setup.
