I got news of a potentially HUGE anime sale scheduled to start at approximately 460 Best Buy stores starting on 3/1/09 through 3/21/09.

Nono, I may have misworded my statement. 40 is culumlative, I've been buying sets all week. Really, I only had about eight adjusted, and that was spread of three seperate trips to the customer service counter. 40 is my total, adjusted sets and the sets I purchased after I learned of the coupon.
 
What if a BB that is not participating on the 50% off sale has a DVD that I want, should I buy it at full price then take it to a participating BB and have them adjust the price?

it's Yu Yu Hakusho Season 4 btw.

This will work as I have done it. However, this is YMMV depending on how well the person behind the CS counter understands the sale. I was rejected at one store (claiming only selected titles were on sale) and it worked at another. You can also try it by printing the sheet with the price from the kiosk.

An easier way to do it in my opinion is to do what I did ----> Go to the BB that is having the sale. Use their kiosk to find Yu Yu Hakusho Season 4. Order it for in store pick-up at the store you want to get it from (At the in-store kiosk the sale prices come up on the site so you will be able to order it at the sale price.) Wait to receive email that your order is ready and then go pick it.

Either way you have to visit two stores but in the second case as outlined above it would be extremely difficult for them to give you any type of run around. The disadvantage to the method above is you should already have a BB account online and you might want to have a cc saved to it so you don't have to enter that info in the store with people possibly looking over your shoulder.

I was able to get both Yu Yu Hakkusho S.4 and FullMetal Alchemist S.1 Complete this way though neither were available at the "Sale" BBs in my area.

You can also pre-order - I was able to have Fullmetal Alchemist S.2 Complete shipped to me for 24.99 plus tax and shipping. BTW it shipped yesterday....Yeah!!!

yup, this way worked for me 2. Got Yu Yu Hakusho S4 that way along with Ghost in the Shell SAC : 2nd Gig as well (only copy in the whole state had been sitting on the shelf of a lone best buy for over a year :D) Going back on the 10th to do that for FMA Season 2 complete.

Smart, because I don't want to pay for shipping, not even 2 dollars. :)
I have something against paying for shipping. It bothers me.

All but the "Sale"Stores have FMA S.2 already. I did a search, and each store that isn't having the sale got 10+.
 
I ordered Ranma Seasons 5,6, and 7 for $20 each. Seasons 1-4 didn't come up at sale price on kiosk. Also ordered Buso Renkin Set 1 from kiosk, and in store i finished up Hellsing Ultimate with discs 2-4.

Buso Renkin is a fun show but a bit formulaic. At $20 or under a set though its worth checking out.
 
Did the kiosk preorder for Full Metal Alchemist complete season two...free shipping (yeah silver rewards). As soon as I get it I can return my season two parts 1 and 2. Only thing with the kiosks is that some of the prices I checked didn't come up at half off...I forget which, but I remember it was hit or miss for some titles the store didn't have. Not complaining though, got everything I wanted from this sale.

Has anybody been able to sneak regular animated stuff in with their purchase? I was planning on trying to sneak Avatar season 3 in with my pile of anime but no local stores had it in stock.

Picked up Full Metal Panic and Robotech Protoculture based on some recommendations in this thread. I sure do love me some giant robots. No Neon Genesis Evangelion to be seen though, and only one half set of any Gundam series, which surprised me. I was at the Clarence, NY BB.

Today I'm gonna go get Black Lagoon & Gurren Lagann.

I wanted to get Hellsing Ultimate but was wondering, is the whole series just the 4 DVD set? Also, is it better than the original Hellsing series?

My stores don't have any copies, but I'll check the kiosk today.
 
So I told myself I wasn't going to get anything else, but then I learned about the coupons and saw Spirited Away in stock. So I picked that up, along with the three Gurren Lagann sub only sets. Plus I picked up Red Alert 3 for $10. Had to hold off on a few other things, like the Rahxephon Canon Collection.

This was at the Greeley, CO store, which was actually pretty well stocked.

So I've seen some people say that Best Buy will price adjust for the coupons if you bring in your receipt and the coupons. Does this work everywhere, or is it at the store's discretion? I'm debating whether it's worth it to drive back to recoup the $15 from my Sunday haul.

With Hellsing Ultimate, they're still releasing episodes in Japan. They come out about 2 episodes a year. Episode 5 just came out in Japan 2-3 months ago so it should be on dvd here sometime soon.

I must be misunderstanding what you are trying to say here, but AMG certainly does have sets. The OVA is all in a single dvd set now, as are seasons 1 and 2 of the tv series.

Well, there were signs in the anime section that explicitly said no blu-ray discs qualified, and all the kiosks had the bds at normal price.

Anybody seen that and can weigh in on it?


hmm if only the BB i went to had Moribito second season set also I would have picked it up. It's a beautiful looking series. I don't want to be with just half a series though.

The movie is so bad that it makes the entire series worse for watching it.

lawls Nadedisco was the 1st anime I ever bought. Before Nadesico I had only seen DBZ, Sailor Moon, and CSS. Man I wish I someone would redo CCS....I love that show

I went back to all 4 stores in my area (30 mile radius) today. Last night I did some research on some titles I saw on shelfs (reviews for content, YouTube for animation quality), and ended up confident enough to pick up a few more today to own & some to Ebay.

While it's seems some would disagree with me, I found that as of 2 PM today, there was still a lot of titles to go around among the East Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, San Jose & Mountain View stores. I didn't check with East Palo Alto or Sunnyvale, but I managed to get 50% anime Blu-rays at San Jose & Mountain View locations, all of which still had a few copies of Afro Samurai, Afro Samurai Res, Samurai 7, One Piece Movie, DBZ Cooler Movie, Vexille, Gunbuster/Diebuster (separate & boxes) & Freedom. Sorry, no GITS2 or Akira left.

Mine has it. I didn't buy it because they don't have the first season.

Speaking of me, i went there ONE MORE TIME. Got:

--Coyote Ragtime Show (since people here seemed to love it)
--Black Lagoon Season 1 (they also had all three volumes of season 2, but separately it would've been a little under $40, so i decided not to get it)
--Black Blood Brothers (again, never heard of it until everyone in this thread bought it, but it looks cool)
--Code Geass Parts 1+2 (according to amazon, part ii just came out last month, so it could be awhile before i complete the series)
--Death Note Vol. 9 (actually, i bought this at a non-sale store and tried to price-match it along with afro samurai resuurection on blu-ray, but i was turned down, and kept this anyway to complete my DN collection)

They also didn't have any more Trinity Blood box sets, which is good cuz it saved me money :).

All in all, only spent about 110 dollars. :) Very happy with my purchases thus far, watched Robotech, Black Lagoon Season 1, and Baccano! The last being the best so far..incredibly crazy.

Probably heading back tomorrow during the day, I picked these up last week, gonna grab AD Police/Parasite Dolls two pack and if they still have the Bubblegum Crisis 2040 box, I'll nab that too.
 
I picked up DBZ Season 2-8. One thing that pissed me off is that on the BB website seasons 2-5 were $29.99, but in store 2 and 3 were $34.99 and 4 and 5 were $39.99. They said that the 50% off is off the tag price. I didn't want to argue because I was still getting a deal, but did anyone have success having them take 50% off the website price?

Did E. Palo Alto take your coupons?
- I called San Jose. They said 4 kids wiped them clean. I don't know if BS, lol. Too bad, I wanted AMG :/ I guess I'll just go.
 
Went to Florida City,Fl and ordered Kaleido Star, the complete collection for 32.49, and did in store pick up at Kendall, with no problems.
 
Bought Shin-Chan Season one, part 1 for 12 bucks (used the chex-mix coupon). A friend of mine grabbed part 2 for another 12, we're set.

Sadly though, another friend of mine was rejected when he tried to use the coupon. So it's a complete toss-up as to whether they'll take it. Funny, he didn't fight it. I hate when people willingly give up their money for no reason.

Just use the chex coupon that's floating around. After chex coupon, a DVD that is $35 comes out to be $14.50, 50 cents less than if they matched the websites price and took 50% off that.

I checked in-store on the kiosk, and it is indeed discounted to $20 on it. Backordered, but still discounted. I also saw season 1 while I was browsing shelves today.

On another note, anyone wondering if the Live Action Death Note movies are 50% off, I checked the kiosk and apparently the first movie is. I found it in my store and it is indeed half-off which would make it $9.99. I'm not sure if I'll buy it or not. Anyone know if it's any good?

Problem is, when ever I order "Back-Ordered", my orders always get canceled.

Nope, it listed it as the regular price for some reason. Plus it isn't even sectioned where the first Death Note is. I found the discounted Live Action next to the anime version (Which I need to buy sometime also..). I knew money would run out eventually.

I know! I spent so much money, but it's worth it. The only thing I hate, is that at this point, most series are not complete unless you order it.

I think you could fight and get the second movie on sale.
 
I was disappointed when I went back in to order things through the kiosk. It sounded like anything and everything was up for grabs, but only some things were. I tried to ask manager about it, just gave me the old "oh well, that's just how it is" thing.

Still got some, but dammit... I wanted Ghost In the Shell SAC... :twoguns:

absolutely nothing besides packaging. The one you had photo'd is a "brick set with all the 7 discs inside it. The one he showed was a "art box" that had 7 individual cases inside, 1 for each disc. The discs are IDENTICAL though.
