I got news of a potentially HUGE anime sale scheduled to start at approximately 460 Best Buy stores starting on 3/1/09 through 3/21/09.

ICv2 has obtained a list of the Best Buy stores that will be running 50% off close-out sales on anime beginning March 1st (see “Best Buy’s New Anime Strategy”) (article link is at bottom of this post). Use a Kiosk in the store that is having the sale, and pick it up or have it shipped.
Or hopefully they'll let you "price-match" buy bring the non-sale items to a sale store.

I got Kenichi for 17 bucks, but only Season 1 part 1.

Well the nearest store isnt having a sale, so I guess I cant print out the prices from the web or another store and thus the deal wont work for me. Ah well.

Follow These Steps -

1.Go to any store that is having the sale.

2.Get on the Kiosk.

3.Find what you want.

4.Check out, and click in-store pick up wherever you want(even if the store it's at isn't have the sale), instead of shipping.

5.Go pick up items.

6.Dance because you beat the system.

hmm I think I would probably have picked up Welcome to the NHK if I'd seen a complete set there. All I could find in any store was like vol. 5 or something. I do like the covers (i'm a real sucker for fanservice lol. What can I say...I like boobs...even if they are 2d boobs).

Is Suzuka any good? Saw that in most stores I went to as well. I saw like one episode of it when it first started airing, but never got past that.

I was thinking Pick up few Season 1 part 1, season 1 part 2. Somehow soon or later funimation re-realease both in 1 set even cheaper. I refer wait for complete box set instead :)

They stopped printing the singles from my understanding so Vol 5 would be the last volume you could get at best buy. Vol 6 can be purchased through rightstuf.com but I'm not sure what other retailers are carrying it. I didn't see any sets of this series at my local best buy.

I've got Suzuka but haven't seen it yet. Most likely will be a run of the mill high school comedy/drama. If you like that sort of thing, probably for you, but if you're not a fan it'd most likely be a pass.

I got in on the sale quite early actually and I dunno what I spent overall.

Coyote Ragtime set

I deleted a good 15-20gb of fansubs after buying these.

People should read whole thread before looking down on me as more than a few people agreed with my previous statements. Don't just flame me because you happened to read one of my comments which was intended for the person I quoted.

Now let's not continue with these off topic rants and stick to PMs here on out. There is still people coming into this sale fresh and they don't need to wade through sludge to get to the real information.

I really enjoyed it. It was one of those anime I dropped without any real reason. What I did watch and read of it, though, was awesome. Go for it.

(SKU: 9152631) is not part of the 50% sale during checkout.
Anyone else notice this?

Try to have manager to override.. but she giving me hell and will not budge because she said I bought too many of the other 50% off already. WTF :bomb:

Have you heard of such policy or is this a YMMV thing?

actually that 1st one he got isn't the Heavy metal collection, check the sku, it's the 3rd Season (The second raid), 1/2 off for the Heavy Metal Collection is $32.49
 
Yeah! I was scared when someone said I got the same thing.

- I just noticed, that some things ring up wrong. Blood should have came up as 45, since it is 89.99 on the website. It came up as 50 for me. You can also price match the website and get 50% off of that, or so I was told. The 2-3 dollars to go back and argue aren't worth it for me, but if you made a big purchase, you should investigate.

So several of my titles are backordered, does this mean they probably don't have them and I should cancel or hold on a while longer? The ones on backorder for me are Tokko, Gunslinger Girl, and Kino's Journey.

What I understand, is best buy doesn't have any in the local warehouse, so if they cannot find it in any of their warehouses, then they submit an order to the manufacture. If the series is 2+ years old, it's a slim chance it will be fulfilled. I wouldn't cancel it, because some people say their orders have been fulfilled. I've never had mine fulfilled, but that's because it was old series set(around 2000). I have an order for Excel Saga, so I'm hoping for the best.


Naruto - I only bought Set One and Two, since they are 15$. The other season's are 20 or up,right?

Anyone seen Dragon Drive Collection 2?

Dragon Drive? You mean the only series in the history of my anime club to be unanimously voted on for never being allowed to be mentioned, brought up for viewing, etc?
 
So have more than a few of you verified that ordering from the kiosks in a store with the sale and having the items picked up in the store of your choice that does not have the sale net you the 50% off? I'm planning on doing this later today.

Yes, it works. I personally grabbed Fullmetal Alchemist season 2 on release day a few days ago.
 
I'm abit confused who is going to deliver the dvds, is it UPS or Post Office? My tracking link shows both services with the package looking like it been one state away for 4 days now.

Afro Samurai was coming up 1/2 off and some were able to use that to get other BD titles at 50% in the beginning. Extreme YMMV now since Best Buy has wised up and discounts will depend on managers. Most likely no at this point.

Of course the ad on Funimation's site has big letters about it being "All Anime".

:D It depends with your ability pursuading the Bestbuy Associate / Bestbuy Store Manager.

If you are that resourceful - go backtrack the previous pages of this thread and read the Positive and Negative experiences in obtaining 50% off Blu Ray.

One advance tip - Look for an Afro Blu Ray Disc that will served as your initial proof.

So I just got back from Best Buy that was having the sale and used the kiosk to order some DVDs that they didn't have in stock (thanks to everyone for this tip!).

What I noticed was that 2 of the DVDs I was looking for did not show up at 50% off. Those were Beck Vol. 2 & 6. Has that happened to anyone else? I don't think anyone in the store could've overrode anything on that one since it wasn't in stock.
