Since they're always pumping out DLC for that game - is any Magicka Collection ever complete? ;)

It looks like they're done with Magicka DLC. They used to be consistently bringing out new content every month, but there hasn't been any since April now. Compared to the Amazon bundle, the package on Steam really is complete, offering the game and all paid DLC in one package (there's also a package with just the DLC.) With the team having moved on to other projects (including Magicka: Wizard Wars), I don't see them returning this one.

$6. Well $5.81.

And considering I bought Dead Space, Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, Crisis 2 Maximum Edition, Dead Space 3, Medal of Honor, Mirror's Edge, Battlefield 3, The Sims 3 (with the expansions High End Loft, Late Night, and Date Night), Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 - Uprising, and Populous all for $5........... well, it kind of IS. :whistle2:?

Ditch all those crappy consoles and portables and you've saved $500+ That should pad your PC buying power!

Clearly you've never been to Singapore.

I don't know why, but I felt like saying that after reading your comment. :)

This is true. If it had some/many/most/all of the dlc included then I would be somewhat/maybe/probably/definitely more inclined to buy it.

:whistle2:k /  / :applause: / :whee:

CAG HAS A JAIL!

So is this the guy who puts you in it?

:robot:

(Yeah, I just wanted an excuse to use that smiley ;))
yep, but unlike Pakistani jails, they don't give you any hash. :whistle2:(

So, how are War of the Roses: Kingmaker, Warlock: Master of the Arcade, and DungeonLand?

War of the roses is great, I like the combat system (mount & blade).

Warlock is very fun, nothing deep, but fun enough.

Dungeonland... I've played solo and about half an hour. I don't like the FOV and I don't think I'll be playing it again unless I can convince a couple of friends to join

Does Kingmaker edition of WotR contains the House of York Armor Set and House of Lancaster Armor which were previously sold as DLC?

Does Kingmaker edition of WotR contains the House of York Armor Set and House of Lancaster Armor which were previously sold as DLC?
from the Steam page:

War of the Roses: Kingmaker includes arsenal and armor updates, three new maps and two additional gameplay modes, including the Assault Mode.

It sounds like it does, going off the fact that neither of those are available to buy on Steam at the moment. This is just me guessing though, so take it as you will.

Looks like the BTA price is locked in at $5.80 again. I guess that's the new policy.

On the one hand, it's disappointing because I'll likely never BTA again at that price (baring something truly spectacular). On the other hand though, no more watching for the lowest price as the bundle goes live, or regretting that I wasn't around when it first launched.

The average is outright locked now. Humble that sucks. I can't drop six bucks a week on truly oddball games.

I'm with The End. This means I'll beat the average only if it's something I already wanted.

non-BTA give three steam keys:

  • AI War + 4 DLC packs & Tidalis Steam Key
  • AI War: Vengeance Steam Key
  • A Valley Without Wind 1 and 2 Steam Key

Could someone please tell me if this includes FLAC versions of the soundtracks? Or is this MP3 only?

FLAC and MP3 for everything (non-BTA level)
Thanks.

I skipped the Indie Royale where these games were featured because they didn't include FLAC soundtracks, only MP3s. I don't mind paying a bit more for FLACs.

I do mind this screwy new average thing they have going on. That's just... sleazy.

I seriously doubt Skyward Collapse is worth $6, and I already own everything else in this bundle. Arcen, you just did an Indie Royale, remember?! In for a penny for soundtracks?

...and to think I actually paid $8 for the IR to get the soundtracks (in MP3, and some are in 192 kbps). Oh well, Arcen are a good indie dev, will probably go in for a buck.

I've gotta stop disappointing myself.. I keep thinking the HB weekly deal will be the X series, but it never is :whistle2:(
Stop hoping so hard, you're ruining it for all of us. ^_~ If you buy it, they (HIB) will come.

I'll bta when Bioshock Infinite is in the bta tier.
$5 or GTFO. .,.also I still need to play BS1 & BS2... I've never even launched BS1 and I've owned it since retail ($5)...

I'm in for $1 to get those Steam keys, because I've heard AI War is quite a good game and that A Valley Without Wind 1 and 2 are worth trying. Tidalis looks like something the wife might play since she loves puzzle games. $.25 per game is not a bad deal, especially with soundtracks included. If any of these wind up with trading cards on Steam, I might even break even.

But who are they kidding with the BTA this week? $5.80 to unlock Skyward Collapse and Shattered Haven, two games that are averaging in the 50s on Metacritic? If I were Arcen, I would have put the AI War plus DLCs in the BTA and put those two turkeys in the lower tier.

Fittingly, the average prices are pretty low so far. I don't think gamers are taking the bait on this poorly-conceived BTA nonsense.

You're right, I'm trying to over pay. $1 tier or gtfo :) damn I'm so fucking cheap.

have steam keys

want moonshine

I think I might be missing an AI war expansion or 2....I kind of want the beat the average games but they really don't look amazing.....may go in at a dollar.

Valley 1 has trading cards, strange that 2 doesn't.

Any thoughts on the games in this bundle?
AI War is a very good RTS with a brutal learning curve. The expansions add tons of extra stuff, and should be considered pretty essential.

A Valley Without Wind 1 is ... hard to describe. A semi-open world zoned side-scrolling action platformer RPG?

AVWW2 is more focused, and is frequently compared to Actraiser.

Tidalis is a decent falling-block puzzler - above average for the genre, I'd say but I don't like that genre much to begin with.

Shattered Haven is a story heavy set-piece puzzler in the vein of the old Lolo games.

Skyward Collapse is Arcen's newest game, and it can be described a "Populus with a twist". Like Populus, you control a bodiless supreme being that cannot directly control the people of the world. Unlike Popular, you are not trying to wipe anyone out. In fact, if either of the two sides destroys the other, you lose. The score gates generally require lots of fighting, though, as do the random third-party monsters, so you can't just hole up and defend. A very interesting game, but with very simple graphics. That's where most of the complaints come from - there's little to no animation anywhere.

I'd strongly recommend going in for $1 if anything in the lower tier sounds interesting. For the Beat-the-Fixed-Price tier, I'd suggest checking out the Demos first - I like Skyward a lot, but some people just can't stand the simple graphics for example.

Thanks for taking the time to post this. I was planning to pass on this week's bundle, but Valley Without Wind sounds like something I'd love.

Thanks - AI War seems, best received, judging by reviews. However, I just picked up Civ 5 and Xcom in the past month, and Tropico 1/2 in another one dollar bundle a few days ago. Not to mention the titles in the paradox sale last week...so I've probably got enough strategy titles for now. I"ll probably do what I always do, though, and pick it up right before the sale ends, because it's "too good a deal not to," right? I just can't help myself with these things, haha. Appreciate the time you took out to go over these for me!

So, I just played about 90 minutes of Valley Without Wind 1, and really enjoyed it, but thought it seemed like sort of an aimless, neverending black hole of dungeons.

Is the second game more of a thing you can pick up and play through and be done with?

I liked what I played of 1, but with my backlog I gravitate towards things I can finish instead of things I will find 60 hours lost in and still feel like the game is grinding more generated content out my way.

Played the demo level of Skyward Collapse...was alright but already felt a bit repetitive and boring. Also extremely simplistic. I really like the idea but was just not having too much fun. I'll go for the 1 dollar level to get the rest of the AI wars expansions i'm missing.

After watching the video of Skyward Collapse, I think I can ignore the BTA (what is this now, Beat The ArbitraryPriceWeChose?).  Already have tidalis, not a bad game at all for being a puzzler and AI War, but not all of the DLC.  Although does that really matter when I've got all of 65 minutes played?

Beat the historical average of all humble bundles sold. Probably smart, to be honest, and probably good to have it in place now, with some minor weeklies, rather than springing it with the next nice awesome bundle.

I hate this defense. "historical average of all humble bundles" really has little/no meaning.... fuck ing bronies

It's just some arbitrary number. ...not even appropriately arbitrary for the particular weekly

Civ5 and Xcom huh? Well we will see ya in a couple of months.

AVWW 1 is rather aimless. Yes, there's a goal, as eventually you are supposed to defeat the Big Bad Boss. But you can just wander through dungeons until you feel like doing it. And when you're done, you move on to a new continent (with new terrain, monsters, etc) and do it again. It supports a neat shared world multiplayer system, but as a single player game, it can get repetitive fast.

AVWW 2, on the other hand, is much more tightly focused. There is still an important side action platformer part, but the real game takes place on the strategic map. Deciding where to assign your people, how to manage your resources and morale, what to explore, etc. You are also somewhat turn limited, as the Big Bad Boss will now come after you - if you don't prepare well and cannot distract him, you WILL lose. It has more story as well, with actual named characters in addition to the random NPCs.

Both are designed for significant replay value. New maps, unlocks of new spells, new zones, new enemies, etc, as you rack up playtime. And because of the size/complexity, neither is a quick play.

Skyward Collapse is pretty simple in concept. I find that the fun comes from the combination of bizarre abilities, Woes, and scoring goals. If you are playing for an ideal strategy, then yeah, it can quickly get boring. On the developer's forums, there have been a couple of different people that came up with instant- or easy-win techniques. General response from the players has been "Booo!" and the devs will try to fix any such strategies so they are no longer 'best'.

But you are correct; Skyward is a simplistic game in it's rules. Take a few actions for Faction #1, take a few actions for Faction #2, back to Faction #1, repeat, meanwhile the AI controlled units move. That's it. But those actions... that can make the game oh-so-complicated.

Arbitrary to switch to it, perhaps, but it certainly is a clearly defined number. It looks like it's the new way Humble will be doing things.

And, again, it's probably smart. It means I would have paid an extra $1.30 or so for the Origin bundle and similar amounts extra for a handful of previous bundles. To be honest, I would have paid the extra for the bundles I was willing to BTA on. I have to assume I'm not unique there. This will probably end up with Humble getting some higher amounts from me and some other gamers. I'll grumble about it, but I'll probably pay it.

I typically end up paying $5 when I BTA, and I don't have any problem throwing an extra $0.80 or so if that's how it will be from now on, since all things considered it's a small price to pay for what we've been getting. I prefer the standard BTA format better, but I'm not bitter about the change, assuming the average doesn't continue to rise from here on out which seems unlikely.

Now I just want the weeklies to pick back up in quality :bouncy:

Why? What does that number have to do with *this* bundle? Is this the desirability of this BTA-bundle equal to the average of all Humble BTA-bundles?

Using numerology would be another way to arrive at a "clearly defined number". So would summing up last week's lotto jackpot numbers, or number of drone strikes last month, but none of these have any direct* relation to what the BTA price of the current bundle.

*Chaos Theory aside.

I think you guys are also missing the bigger picture. If this is really an average of all sales and new bundles start having this "just $0.80" difference, the BTA price is likely to start climbing so that the normal BTA could be upwards of $10 within a year or so. Is that a trend you'd support?

Personally I agree with Ashes that this is curiously arbitrary. I also think everyone should stop calling things BTA that clearly are not. People tend to have a higher opinion of HIB than Indie Gala, but that's a classic IG move ("BTA means whatever we want it to").

FWIW, there's nothing inherently wrong with the quality of this bundle. It's just that Skyward Collapse is the only Arcen game that's never been previously bundled. Most folks have at least two or three of these from earlier bundles and paid much less for them. Arcen was selling AVWW 2 for sub-$4 during the summer sale and that came bundled with AVWW 1, but they think cheap-asses are going to cough up almost $6 for their newest game?!
