I always knew that Bill Maher was an asshole, but...

Guess what Bill Maher dressed up as for Halloween. If you guessed Steve Irwin you'd be correct. If you guessed 'asshole' you'd also be correct. In fact, that answer is acceptable any other time of the year as well. He doesn't even need to be in costume.

One of my best friends did the exact same thing only he had the front of the stingray coming out his chest and the tail coming out of his backside. BTW, doesn't Bill Maher look like he's really sick in that picture .. like he has aids or cancer or something?

... I wasn't as choked up about Irwin as most people, but this is just.. shit. No tact at all. Going as Irwin with the stingray would be like going as JFK with a big bullet hole in your head.

Then again, if you were to plan on going as that, might as well try and remove most of your head anyway. :D

When I first saw the photo, I assumed he was dressed as a bleeding-heart Liberal. Then I realized he didn't need a costume for that.

Bill Maher is the real life equivalent of a message board troll. The guy is so painfully desperate attention that he'll do anything, no matter how offensive, in order to get it. You could kind of see it after his 9/11 comments but now its very apparent.

hey dont blame the liberals, hes actually a libertarian that leans towards the democrats.
didnt anyone see that south park last week? lol

You forgot the "ZING" at the end of that post.

I didn't blame the Liberals.

Comparing Steve Irwin and JFK is like comparing mother theresa and some paedo priest.
Bad taste I agree.
I wonder what he would claim his justification is for that being an "acceptable" costume.

Geez.

And here I thought he dressed up as a vagina.

I do agree it is in bad taste. I remember ranting about that when the Steve Irwin thread got made at the time of his death.

Hopefully he does get Aids and cancer... colon cancer would be good.

I like Maher. He's a pretty funny guy. This doesnt bother me all that much. Even worse taste than this, my brother's friend's sister dressed up as JonBenet Ramsey for her college halloween party :p

I liked Bill Maher because he is the opposite side of the spectrum than Rush Limbaugh, but I see that they are both dicks. New low, Bill, new low.

The thing about the costume is, its not even that funny. Sure its offensive, its kind of original, but its not funny. I know a lot of people are going to say, "oh but not every halloween costume has to be funny" but when you do a costume like this, its obvious that your goal is humor and its obvious that it simply didn't work this time around.

I didn't like him before, I like him even less now. I'm ashamed of what some people - especially people who are in the spotlight in our society - think is acceptible behavior.
Meh, everybody needs to get over it already.

This really isn't that big of a deal.
so it would be cool if someone dressed up like your mom right after she died in a car wreck. im sure these photos are doing steve irwins family a world of good!
my brother's friend's sister dressed up as JonBenet Ramsey for her college halloween party :p
Excellent. Also, from what I understand, Bill Maher is not a liberal, but a libertarian. Thus, he is not an asshole. At least, not for his political views.

rolly eyes.. Just say you don't like Bill and be done.

"It's no TeH funny" has to be the lamest criticism leveled against a fucking halloween costume I've heard.

You know I will never see what the big deal about the whole Steve Irwin thing. Yes he dies, but everyone does at one point or other.

My opinion is the way he messed around with animals it was going to happen sooner or later.

Now I wonder when Jack Hanna dies if everyone will go this crazy over him also?

As I said long ago, show some goddamn respect.

Jack Hanna isn't directly comparable because he wasn't an ambassador of sorts for the USA the way Irwin represented Australia. In an age where the only icons from that country tend to be self-righteous movie stars, Irwin just tried to show some people a few things about animals in such a way that was exciting and interesting. I don't remember anyone watching Hanna and thinking he was in a potentially life-threatening situation.

usickenme, people aren't saying "it's not teh funneh." They are saying it is in bad taste under the guise of comedy. Maher is just using a weak justification to cover up something that is entirely tactless.

Unoriginal, for some reason, none of those guys strike me as the sorts who would do this sort of thing. I'd have to see something that would suggest they'd try out this kind of shock-humor sort of thing.

My gf pointed out that they talked about this sort of thing on Maher's show, which is why he did it. I just wanted to add that in.

Well, maybe I feel a bit different about this. First off, I think JFK and Steve Irwin is a bit different. Whatever you think of him, JFK was the President, and he died while being President. That's a major difference than a person who's goal is to create an image to make money off of (which obviously isn't Steve Irwin, but most celebrities and even popular athletes).

Now, this costume may be in bad taste, but I don't see the horrendous offense. Sorry, if I wanted to be Steve Irwin last year, that is ok. Heck, it's a compliment to him. However, Steve made a living by tempting danger, when danger gets him, it will be seen in this way. Same thing if David Blaine ever dies in one of his acts, that will be a costume.

Now, I'm not a fan of Bill Maher, and it is kind of early for these jokes it seems. But honestly, would you be offended if someone dressed up as dead Elvis sitting on a toilet? Would anyone worry about the Presley family's feelings on it. Sure, it would be a stupid costume, but no one would care.

Secondly, I heard of South Park. Wasn't Irwin's widow upset that her kids might see the episode? Well, her kids are 8 and under, so they shouldn't be watching South Park right now. When they are older, sorry, they will have to learn to deal with this. It's a side effect of what their dad use to do?

you're right "people" aren't saying it. RedvsBlue, who I quoted, was.

Didn't care for him before, care less now.

I'm absolutely not letting my mom find out about this. She had a fit when I told her Irwin died. She'd bust out and kill Maher if she knew.
I'm sure if Ali G, Dane Cook, Johnny Knoxville or someone similar who can do no wrong did this, no one would have a problem.
Isn't this the truth. Just because someone like Bill Maher did this, people are up in arms. South Park did it, and I didn't see a post shunning Matt Stone, Trey Parker or Comedy Central.

Like someone else said, just admit that you don't like Bill Maher period and move on...

Your answer to your claim that Maher is trying to get attention is to give it to him. How fucking novel.

Okay, I can't be mad at him for dressing as Steve Irwin BECAUSE he was at the Playboy mansion and surely used it as his means to get laid; since he has no good looks, his humor is all that he could rely upon.

http://www.tmz.com/photos/celebrity-halloween/79465/

note the girl he's looking at in the picture...it's none other than Holly from Girls Next Door (or for non E! viewers, the show about Hef's gfs)

Surely none of you males have ever done anything stupid to try and get laid.
