I am not too impressed with GTA SA yet. How does everyone else like it?
So much better than shaq-fuing Vice City, with it's shitty ass 80's style and music. SHAQ-FU THE SHAQ-FU-ING 80s! DIE SHAQ-FUERS!

I've played it for about 3 hours so far and have not seen anything that blows me away. Has anyone else see or done anything in this game that is simply AMAZING??!?!?
What the hell's wrong with you, man.. first you don't like X-Men Legends, and now this!?

Fact is, people spend too much time fixating on either absoloutely loving it, or absoloutely hating it.. which is a damn shame. There IS fun to be had, but with constant media surroundings telling us what the next big thing is, we can't help but blow things outta preportion.. And a good bit of the time, we force ourselves into being disappointed.

But the scary part? This happens to alot of games (GTA, Fable, Halo2 come to mind) before they even come out.
hay guys I know let's pick a super popular super awesome game but really say that we don't like it so much and don't see what all the fuss is so we'll be cool sound good?
If you avoided childish adjectives such as "super popular" and especially "super awesome".. you may have more luck being taken seriously. But I don't knock GTA simply because its such a mainstream game (as I realize many are prone to do).. I love FF, Halo, etc.. Personally, I have no interest in picking this game up, I haven't felt like putting either GTA3 or Vice City into a console for atleast 18 months now, its just not an enjoyable experience to me.

Yep, the hype train. What made GTA:SA so great to me.. is.. since I don't have a PS2, I didn't get hyped.. about 30 minutes before, I got hyped and bought it, went to my brother's and played it for hours. I hardly knew anything about it. Fable I had been hyped for years about and I loved it.. played it for hours and hours and hours.. Halo 2 i'm not hyped at all for, but I'm buying two copies.. one for my cousin, one for me. I'll probably get hyped 30 minutes or an hour before I get it..

But seriously, I agree, there's a redeeming factor about each and every game.. I've yet to play a game that is 100% crap..

I rented it yesterday cause it was at Blockbuster and I couldn't find anything else to rent.

To sum up what I think of the game;
Zzzzz.....

The game is the same old tired GTA3, I'm getting so boarded with this series. Rockstar needs to retire the series. Milking it like they are is only going to make it die faster. I'm very happy I didn't buy it. Rockstar should have stopped at Vice City and saved these few new features in GTA4. Two GTA games is enough per-Gen, over that is over kill.
That's exactly how I feel... I have no real interest in buying SA unless its at $10-$15 eventually. Its the same old rehash of what we've all done over and over again. I got bored before the end of GTA3, I got bored after an hour of Vice City, and now I'm bored of SA before I even pick it up.
I don't really understand this... you were expecting something radically different?

Based on this, I assume after you played Gradius you never played any other scrolling shooters (e.g. Life Force, Gradius 3, R-Type, Ikaruga, etc). And after Mega Man 1, MM2, MM3, etc were tired old crap? I mean, the Metal Blade from MM2 is now the Shadow Blade in MM3, big deal. How could they even get to MM8? [/sarcasm]

In all seriousness, it's a series of games. Of course, they're very similar, just bigger and with new features. Many many series are like this, but people don't usually complain about the other ones...
You're missing something very important.. shooters are fun, mega man was fun (I cannot stand the newer games).. GTA isn't fun, its interesting to see all the things you can do.. but that stopped exciting my and holding my attention long ago. There's a reason I can still sit down and play all the way through SMB3 or FF1 or Super-Contra after playing each of them half a dozen or more times. They're fun.

I love breaking out the Contras! I play the original and Contra III on a regular basis!

Seriously.. if you haven't played the game, shut the hell up. You can't bash it, it's radically different from all the other GTA's. "I'm already bored of GTA:SA and I haven't even played it".. blah blah blah, you're saying all sequels are the same, they're not, play the game THEN state your opinion, otherwise you're no better than a Gamestop employee saying that some game is better than the other.

This game is great. Lots of new features. 2 Player co-op mode. New story. New cities (huge). New characters. New things to explore. Fun fun fun. The things that the people walking around say are just hilarious and comedy at it's finest. Everyone here likes it alot. There are even mini arcade video games within the game that you can play. They are even fun. The soundtrack is the best of the 3 games by far. The radio stations are awesome and entertaining. If you are tired of it, maybe you are suffering from video game burnout overload. Just go outside and ride your mountain bike, skateboard, or do something in "real" life for a little while until you feel like playing games again. It happens sometimes with all these great games coming out now. Sometimes too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Take a break sometimes. So many games so little time.

yes, played san andreas, and yea, a lot of it is the 'same ole, same ole', but if it's not broken, don't fix it. the gta engine is great and there's really no need to change it.

CAN YOU GUYS PLEASE PLAY MORE THAN A COUPLE HOURS BEFORE YOU JUDGE IT???

Seriously, while the beginning of the game feels a bit too much like Vice City, it gets ridiculously amazing after you leave Los Santos (the last couple Los Santos missions are pretty great too). Parachuting off Mt. Chiliad has got to be one of the coolest thing I've ever done in a videogame. Oh, and it was a off of a bike, off of a ramp, off of a mountain.

They already tricked me into buying the same game twice. Fooled me once. I'll wait until it goes down in price before I buy it for a third time.

I have a comment for you. See my post above.

Yes, until you really play this game more than 3 hours, you don't know what you are saying. That's like saying I have all the other (insert favorite band) CD's so I don't need to buy the new one because it's all the same ole same ole.

Wow . . . I'm amazed to see how many of you admit to being really crappy gamers. . . . not just poor in skills but bad in attitude and judgment.

The remote heliopter mission in VC took some concentration and patience but was rewarding when you saw the building demolished. If you stopped playing VC at that point, what games do you ever finish . . . why bother at all?

I've only put in a few hours with SA . . . I'm in no way ready to pass judgment of it! If you don't like the GTA games, then don't play it. Yes, this game is very much in the same vein . . . that really is the point.

I'm not so sure about the Sims-type aspects . . . but they don't seem overboard. The city definitely has a new look. The language seems to fit the story. I got my copy for very cheap but even if I had paid full price . . . I'd say its worth it.

The best part so far is that I'm getting some of the same feelings that I did when I first picked up GTA3 (one of my top 10 of all time) and VC . . . mainly a "where the heck am I" sense that is kinda cool. It's going to take awhile to get my full bearings.

I watched a bunch of people play it at work. I stand by my statement.. Based on what I saw of the game I'm going to wait.

I'm not a big fan of GTA. I bought the double pack after playing through GTA 3 on the comp at my buddy's house (we played it quite a bit, I'd walk out and be like, "Wow, I should steal that car" before realizing I wasn't playing a video game any longer). I didn't play GTA 3 on the xbox, but I popped in Vice City when I bought the double pack. For the most part, it seemed exactly the same as GTA 3, really. I played through a good portion of the game (yes, past that stupid helicopter mission), but eventually just got bored with the linear, lame-ass missions and went around trying to crash my crotch-rocket motorcycle into a building in the most stylish way possible.

Anyway, SA sounds neat with all the minigames and stuff, but I'm simply not that big a fan of the core gameplay anymore. It was fun for one game, maybe a game and a half tops. Not anymore.

Not for me ... I had to turn the music off after an hour, played the next 40 hours or so in silence. The 80s are the reason Vice City is the worst game of the 3, despite having Ray Liotta as the voice of Tommy Vercetti.

Can anyone give a run down on each of the radio stations? PLease tell me they aren't all (c)rap stations. That is the main reason I didn't get vice city, I would rather dig my eyes out with a fork then listen to 80's music again.

EDIT: \/ thanks Schultzed!

No 80s . . . there is a 70s rock station hosted by Axl Rose . . . Heart and Boston type stuff . . .

a Country Music station but its good country with mostly "classic" songs . . . I don't like country but Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline and Hank Williams Sr. I can handle

Reggae which is cool and is hosted by the legendary Sly and Robbie

There are decent songs on the Alternative station but no Nirvana

I think the rap stations 2 one contemporary one classic (not my favorite music) are pretty well done

The Funk station is hosted by George Clinton!!!

There is also some very good R&B early 90s and Classic songs

for the full soundtrack listing . . . over 100 songs . . . I think its a good mix

I have the soundtrack cds on order!

for me, the helicopter mission didnt CAUSE me to not play it anymore...it was just that i was busy around that time and just never got around to finishing it...but now i have SA :D

I got in another 2 hours . . . this game is pretty good. I did a few mission . . . but I also drove around for awhile.

The freeways are huge! and just like LA confusing to find an onramp . . . I was flying along on the edge of the city and I saw a tractor! I bumped the tractor and it flipped into a semi cab which then turned over wildly! GREAT STUFF!

This game is great! The more we play it, the better it gets. I have no complaints other than graphics, but that is only because I am really spoiled by the greatness of the XBOX. The graphics are great in most instances. I do notice a few flaws here and there, but no more than any other PS2 game. Overall it doesn't take away from the game. The graphics are the best of any of the other GTA games on PS2. Much better actually. The game is just awesome. If you aren't giving it a try (at least a rental), you are truly missing out.

Yeah, this game is just one great experience. Any self-respecting gamer need to experience this game before they trash it. The only problem I'm having is some wierd "error reading GTA:SA game disc" messages that don't seem to really to affect anything but interfere with gameplay for a few seconds at a time. My PS2 isn't that old, just got it in August and can't get the PStwo because of FFXI.
