I called Nintendo for a Pin 72 Connector

CAGiversary!
I called Nintendo for a Pin 72 connector expecting to hear "we will ship one to your house for $$ if you give us your mailing address". I heard Nintendo carried them. The Pin 72 connector is the part that wears out first on the old NES systems and is the reason why they fail to play games. I called them and they did in fact have the Pin 72 connector, but could not sell it to me. They offered to direct me to a Nintendo representative who could install it in my system for $39, but I told him I was not looking to spend that much and asked why he could not sell me one. He explained that the reason why Nintendo cannot sell a Pin 72 connector to me is because someone could hurt themselves using a screwdriver and it would be Nintendo's liability.

How can someone hurt himself trying to use a screwdriver to the extent that he needs medical attention?

My point of this story is that it is a shame that companies have to be so careful against frivolous lawsuits. Someone please comment on this (and not with 'try e-bay).

What kind of dealor can I get one from? I know Gamestop, EB, and Gamcrazy all do not carry the Pin 72 connectors. I can't buy one online because every online retailor wants me to use a credit card and I do not have a credit card.

Nintendo's answer on why they won't sell you a ccnnector is absurd. Using that logic, all auto parts should be taken off the market becuase "someone could get hurt with a screwdriver." Perhaps they should shut down the construction industry too.

Good luck.

I called again and spoke to someone else who agreed to ship one out to me for free. I guess it depends on who you talk to and whether or not you get lucky.

Has anyone else had any luck with fixing an old NES with a new Pin 72 connector? I should be getting mine in one or two weeks.

When I got my new connector in I did not install it. I took the old one out and cleaned it, then I bent the prongs out and it works great. Now I have a brand new one ready to go.

When you do install a new one or clean your old one be sure to clean all your games before inserting them.

I highly reccomend getting one of these. I got mine after blowing in the system, games, and trying to clean both, and after 5 minutes of unscrewing and rescrewing my Nintendo works great. This is a great investment for 10-15$.

It really just depends on which service representative that you get on the phone.

I called about a week ago when I first saw the thread and got a hispanic sound lady on the phone. She was very nice, except for the fact that she lied and said that they didn't have any pin connectors in stock, etc etc. So I said thanks, hung up.

I called again today and got a different person on the phone. He went through the questions about cleaning my games. He said right off the bat that they did have them in stock, but the different options I could take (40 dollar repair, buy a refurbished GameCube, etc).

The short of it is that it depends on who you get, because at first I did not get one.
