I can never finish RPGs....

I mostly play RPG's, but I never finish them!! I own dozens of them but have finished less than half that I own. I am some what of a perfectionist...but a lazy one, and when I find out that I missed an item or spell or something, I start to lose interest in the game then end up quitting. Anyone else like this, or am I the only one with RPG ADHD :p

You're not alone. I went two discs deep on FF VII, never finished Zelda:TWW because I didn't find the big rupee bag and got too lazy to sail to look for it, I sat through the first 40 minutes of Valkyrie Profile until you got to the first place you CAN save and never went back fearing I'd have to go 40 minutes at a time each time I wanted to save and would die at minute 38 or 39. I can tell you numerous other RPG's I've run into the same issues with but you get the idea. You keep thinking you'll go back right?

Then you pick up a game like Zelda and you realize just how lost you truly are since you haven't touched that game since two weeks after it released and don't feel like learning the controls/maps/songs all over again and still not want to spend the time looking for damn rupee bags.

Of all the RPGs I have owned, over 25 of them, I have only finished five.

Golden Sun (GOD I HATE THOSE MOTHERfuckING CUTSCENES I WAS SO CLOSE TO SMASHING THAT BLOODY CART WITH A fuckING HAMMER!)

Final Fantasy 1 (best. RPG. ever. no story, no conversations, no cutscenes)

3 Pokemon games (the only fun RPGs I have ever played)

I'm a big RPG fan too, but I rarely lose interest in the game. For me, it's usually just lack of time, especially the last 2 years, and other events that come up in life. I can only really play 1 RPG at a time (2 is rare, like right now I am simultaneously working through SMT:N and Sword of Mana), and I need a break after I finish one. I try to complete it as best I can, and don't really sweat missing anything.

I can never finish RPGs either...without using a gameshark ;)

Actually, the only ones I have actually beaten without "game enhancements" are FFVII and Grandia II...I'm working on Star Ocean: TTEOT though which I am really enjoying so I can see myself finishing it. I'm also playing Parasite Eve which is also pretty fun so I hope to finish that too.

That's why I quit playing RPG's for a while there I would buy them for cheapo prices thinking "this will finally be the first RPG I beat". To this day the only turn based RPGs I've completed are pokemon blue, super mario rpg, and paper mario 1 and 2. The solution to the problem was to quit buying RPG's and it has worked wonders.

I have a ton of RPGs which I lie to myself about finishing as well. However, I find it easier to play RPGs that are not turn based. I hadn't played RPGs in a long time before picking up Paper Mario 2, and I marathoned that game over my Chirstmas break. It's odd though, because I've just stopped playing TOS. Got to the second world for the 1st time and just stopped. I think I'll give them a break for a while.

The only real RPG I ever finished was Fallout ... most games don't hold my interest very well, and RPG are usually inflated past a playable state.

I try to beat every RPG completely. However, with my recent backlog, I just beat them to the normal boss. I want to do the secret dungeon in SO3, kill the ultimate boss in Disgaea... etc.

I got half way done with golden sun 1 and someone stole my fuckin GBA with the cart in it. I have 2 to play yet, but I want to finish 1 first. However, I dont want to rebuy it. :wall:

I've beaten just about every RPG I owned before the PS2 generation. Since then however, I think I've only finished SMT: Nocturne. And I have around 20 current gen RPGs. :| A lack of time is the problem for me.

I used to be able too play an RPG for 4 days straight and finish it. Now I find myself rushing through and having trouble beating bosses. I'm still stuck on the last boss in FFX and dont want to level up to beat him ;)

Well I was just going to send it to you, but I guess I could ask for a couple dollars to cover shipping. It's cart only, but I don't know if I can just drop that in an envelope or something. :whistle2:k

I try, but i don't finish all my games, RPG or otherwise. Sometimes I quit when it's no longer 'fun'; I may go back, I may not. Sometimes I quit because I got something new and want to play it. I do try to 'focus' on one or two RPGs at a time, so I don't get 'lost' when I come back to it [story wise or game-completion wise.] I also don't go for 100%, in many games that seems like 'work' not 'fun'.
But I've been doing better recently.
This weekend I beat Digital Devil Saga [and started DDS2.] Before that, Growlanser 2 and 3 [these were shorter, but still.] FFX and FFX-2. Before that, I didn't finish Shadow Hearts or Front Mission 4. But out of the 'beatable' games I own now, I've probably 'finished', or am actively playing, about half of them. Which is a lot better than previous generations

These are the RPGs (133) I own...

The ones I have beaten are in green

There is absolutely nothing going on at work today so I had time to do it. I probably could do it for my whole collection. Hell, I may even pull out my GBA since it is so dead here.
RPG's aren't for playing...they are supposed to sit on a shelf after you pay too much for them on eBay.
how true....
I actually beat most of mine, though. Sometimes, it's the only genre I feel like playing. I can just sit back and relax without the adrenaline rush.
Well I was just going to send it to you, but I guess I could ask for a couple dollars to cover shipping. It's cart only, but I don't know if I can just drop that in an envelope or something. :whistle2:k
How about $5 off a Play asia order?

I've been trying to finish up tales of symphonia for a year now... i have fun with it for awhile but i get so goddamn board after about a half hour and have to put it back on the shelf for a couple months until it peaks my interest again. Im 30 hours in... so at this rate ill have it finished in 2 more years.

RPG's are too boring, I'm bout to sell a bunch of mine. They're only fun when you throw on the Gameshark.
Well, I will need to order GNT 4 ...

Ok sure. PM me the info.
I'll do it when I get home, the cupon is on my PC desk.

I am going to try to finish at least one a month from now on. The reason I have more SNES ones finished is because I was in high school and didn't have to worry about work.

I own 60+ RPG's currently, I beat 4 of them and played a total of 8, and 18 of which are still factory sealed, I swear I will get to you Radiata Story, Devil saga 1 & 2, Nocturn, SHinning Tears, Makai Kingdom

I'll do my list based on Guile's format, so his rules apply:

I guess I've played more than I thought, but I still didn't finish much. Of course this only includes what I still own.

Lack of time applies to me as well, with games, movies, and music. Having a full-time job, and being a husband a father does that. Factor in other spare-time activities (*cough* intarnets mesasge boards *cough*), and I wonder why I was cursed to love a genre that requires so much time.

The RPGs I recall giving up on recently are Dungeon Siege 1 (got too repetitive), Chrono Cross (stopped playing it for some reason and then was completely lost when I picked it up again), and FF IX (similar to CC, I'm afraid I'll be lost so I haven't bothered picking it up again).

The nature of RPGs makes them very long and very repetive (not a good combination). I've only beat 6 IIRC. Super Mario RPG (favorite RPG, beat about 5 times), Lufia 2, Secret of Evermore, Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, Fallout, and Chrono Trigger.

Nice lists Kain Vincent and sblymnlcrymnl.

Funny thing is that I have completed a few non-RPGs that would amount to 20-30 hour RPGs in the last year....

God of War
DMC
Ninja Gaiden
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (Btw sub, you look a lot like the Prince. You should have gotten royalties on that one.)

Even I don't feel the same "WOW" factor during most games, as I used to, it still takes a certain something to draw me into a RPG, and be compelled to finish it. If I don't finish it, it either got boring (Crimson Tears), or overwhelmed me (Phantom Brave). My worst offense was buying Arc the Lad Collection, and then selling it. Man, I had to trade in so much crap for it, and I never finished part 2, though I beat part 1 twice?!

This is all games I currently own, there'd be more if I included all the RPG's, though it's not much more. I don't have the need to master RPG's, as long as I beat it, all is good.

TO DO

Breath of Fire DQ (15+ Hrs)
Crimson Tears (5 Hrs, pain in the ass)
Phantom Brave (12 Hrs)
Nightmare of Druaga (30 Hrs)
Ring of Red
Grandia
Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 (8 Hrs)
Metal Dungeon (?)
Dokapon (?)

I would post all the RPG I have beat and all the ones I stoped playing @ the end but I am sure that I can't post that long of a thread. Also it would make my brain hurt trying to remember all the RPG I have beat or have not in the last 15 years.

fuck that list shit... I beat some... and haven't beaten others. Sometimes I make fun of their moms for birthing such bad games.
fuck that list shit... I beat some... and haven't beaten others. Sometimes I make fun of their moms for birthing such bad games.

Don't sweat it man. The only reason I did the list was because I litteraly had nothing to do at work today. :)

ive got a ton of rpgs, but i have also beat a ton of them too, more than half definately, and even when i do stop in the middle i most of the time go back and play, it sucks when you dont know where you are and what to do though, i usually use a guide for awhile at that point. I feel your pain about the perfectionist thing though, ive been trying to ditch that trait.

full time work + full time school = not much RPG playing time. Plus baby coming in January.

Still, I invested plenty of hours in Lunar 2 ( I was in the epilogue), Dragon Warrior 7. I would have beaten DW7 if the end boss hadn't whooped on me so bad, lost memory card during move last year though.

And plenty of hours on Baldur's Gate II, 80+ a few times, I kept restarting my game. I think I have it now.

Only one I actually beat in recent years was FFX, maybe that's because it was so pathetically easy.

I'm almost done with Star Ocean 3, great game.
I've now color coded a list of every game I own now too, though I don't know how to color code it in a webpage (I used excel).
