Gasp. This is quite the megaton announcement for me.
So there's this San-Francisco based startup that a friend of mine works for - and they need software people. Pretty much people exactly like me.
They're doing some really cool stuff - online cell phone games (so there's programming for cell phones, and for the servers). The games so far have been based on sports events - watch the game on TV, try to call the plays and whatnot before they happen, watch your score go up and down in relation to your friends or everybody playing. In a nutshell - of course there's a whole lot more.
They're located right in the middle of SF ("SoMA", south of market area) - in fact, pretty much across the street from Sega's offices.
Now I have to find a nice 1-br in SF (I'm certainly getting paid enough for it... although not as much as a certain lawyer). I'm driving up there next week, and I think my plan so far is to get a temporary guest apartment for a few weeks while I go looking for a real apartment. I want an area that will maximize my interaction with people (especially cute girl people) but a place that won't get burgled is also nice, as is being able to walk to the office sometimes (but that's really less important).
And not really knowing anything about the city would make it difficult to decide, as well as to find my way around while I'm looking. Yikes! And on top of that, the old apartment has to be packed and moved to the new place, or temporary storage if I can't find anything in time. You know, just to add to the pressure.
If anybody who lives in / used to live in SF would like to chime in with advice or such, feel free. I'll take all the input I can get.
Oh, and if anybody in San Diego wants to swing by some time and get my stack of extra penny guides, let me know (but take the extra extras and give them away too!). There's around 25 different ones, I think. I live near Horton Plaza. (Edit: I think these are claimed)
